Podium in last four races, even after dropping a chain in Andorra and getting stuck in 12th place for the first lap in MSA. She has deep legs this year. Hoping she gets her big first win soon.

The problem was the Flükiger beat Anton Cooper to the rock garden (Beatrice) then slowed down! So Anton had to take a weird line.

Nino is still first in the overall right? Have to respect his dominace knowing how competitive xc is. Yes I was a spandex warrior in my early days.

Yes Nino still has quite a lead. Mathieu Van der Poel, the only consistent rider in the podium is still second but skipped MSA for the Euro road championships. Sam Gaze has a habit of DNFing, Anton Cooper is irregular. Kerschbaumer has been fast in the 3 last world cups but didn't score a lot of point in the first 3 WC as he got results in the 20th to 42th place.

I don't know if you watched the race, but she got a flat and she should have at least been on the podium. I know it's racing and all, but I felt a little sorry for her as she battled hard in both races and her XC result didn't reflect her talent or fitness.

@russthedog: nino was sick this weekend. Which is why he started in the 3rd row (was feeling worse Friday than today). Apparently some type of cold/flu.

@russthedog: make it into the lead on the first or second lap when Anton Cooper and him had a gap and he broke his chain. I heard he had a flat after that.

@OhioOutside: That flat was in the last lap and didn't cost him a place. But he may have catched Cooper before the line had he not flatted as he was ~1m45 from the lead before that last flat.

Great race, Kreschbaumer coming back from that crash was insane. He was going to put 30 sec on the second if he did not made a mistake.

Nino Schurter starts to look annoying, always having to justify why he has a bad performance. Last time he did not train in altitude, this time he was sick... a little ridiculous and lacks respect to the other riders - they all have problems and still race. I think Kreschbaumer is considerably stronger than him right now.

Btw another Sram fail, how many this year? I can count four five races. #etrap

I don't know man, but the race I was watching Nino was ripping off the front solo before he broke his chain and had to run back to the tech zone.. Also got back on the bike to to finish the race in 7th (also with a flat tyre) to win the world cup overall.

Kudos to Kerschbaumer for an inspired ride after that crash!

He was in front “ripping” in andorra as well, then he got over a minute in the last lap and an half. Same would have happened here. He wasn’t even able to drop cooper and flueckinger-good riders but a category below.
I don’t understand why he does not refuse to run etap. This must be the 5th race this season the system fails and he is out of contention.

He broke the chain on this race where he could have been second, on the Swiss chapionship a couple of weeks ago, his derailer failed and did not win, on other two/three races his derailer failed. He won the overall, but he lost significant points because of an half baked wireless system. Road teams refuse to use it, they can’t get to sponsor any team with contenders anymore.

Next year, if GK going to keep the form and NS has the same mechanical problems, he is not going to win because of a crappy drivetrain.

Assuming MVP was here and he did win the race (I doubt it) then nino did not win the overall yesterday.

I gave watching XC a real shot with this race but if it wasn't for the announcers yelling while those guys are creeping their way around the track I could have fallen asleep. I do not think this qualifies as action sports. Let's get some more live coverage of Enduro even if it is only a few events out of the season.

It's not an "action sport". It requires a certain degree of refinement to appreciate the mental, physical, and technical battles in XC racing. Watching DH is entertaining, but the tactical aspect of head-to-head racing make it far more interesting.

My nose is in the air and my pinky is out.

I ride DH therefore I enjoy watching the racing more as it's the type of riding I'm into....I'm sure anyone who prefers XC is an XC rider.

Doesn't mean you can't appreciate both for what they are, as you said...they couldn't be more different.

I was in VDS this year and checked out short-track XC...it was way cooler than I expected and the battles are real...regular XCO or whatever it's called didnt hold my interest the same.

@nvranka: I was being a bit facetious, but still think it holds true. Also, while I pedal my bike on most of my rides, it's still got 2.6" minions. Probably hit the park about a dozen times this year too. I don't ride XC, but like watching it.

@sspiff fair enough it isnt action sports. I can appreciate the endurance and training required to compete at this level. It just seems more like watching road bike racing than mountain biking. They are surviving the technical parts of the track and it's all won on the climbs and in that last sprint. I am also rather ignorant to XC and race BMX myself. Like I said gave it a shot today because plenty of people enjoy this type of racing.

What you fail to understand is that these guys would destroy you on the same course if they borrowed your BMX and you used their mtb, they would then proceed to destroy you on the BMX track using their xc race bike agaibst you on your bmx, these guys are superhuman in their riding level

This is nothing like road racing, once you start understanding road, it is pretty addicting. Xc is more mountainbiking than taking a chair lift and race an individual time trial. Btw i like dh as much as xc.
