Just a couple of weeks after the Olympic XC racing, some of the top European riders got between the tape to fight it out for the title of European Champion.

Pauline Ferrand Prevot took her first big XC win of the year as she crossed the line over a minute up on Anne Terpstra in second place and nearly two minutes ahead of third-placed Anne Tauber. In the Elite Men's racing Lars Forster only just managed to beat out Sebastian Fini Carstensen by three seconds as the whole top five are separated by six seconds.

Check out the full results below.

That was a really strange course. Watched the replay on GCN+. Course was very differently than what you typically see on the World Cup....looked like it was held in a city park and the course was a weird mashup of cyclocross, urban, and MTB riding. There were stairs, cobblestone street climbs, a few hillsides with weird steep climbs that they just kept lapping like a cyclocross venue.

Not sure if that had anything to do with some of the names that came out on top, but it sure was different I thought.

They made the course so that it weaved n and out of and around the old castle in Novi Sad. Quite weird and coming out like a rowdy cx-track alright.

Really neat track. Pretty lacking in technical features compared to the Tokyo track, but it seems like an interesting change as a one-off. I'm sure PFP liked it.

Even some of the bigger names that were there finished behind some names that aren't that familiar. Cink, Marotte and even Tempier finishing a lap down! Strange results for sure. Good on Lars Forster FTW!

Indeed! Apparently they were all leading until 3/4 of the race, and then not sure what happened?!

Saw a preview of the course last week - and wondered what was going on. Had more in common to Cyclocross, than MTB XCO.
However, it produced quite close, tactical racing - and I think the really hot weather had an effect as well.

PF-P winning wasn't a massive surprise; multi discipline World Champion, this was probably right up her street. And Lars Forster is a former European XCO champion, as well a Swiss CX Champion - and won the first round of the EKZ CrossTour in similar weather last year.

Olympics was the main event of the year....

That is a very close top 20 on the men's side, reads like a road finish.
