@endlessblockades: This is qualifying.... it says it in the title.
  • 10 1
@Janes28: it’s not qualifying in the normal sense.
  • 4 0
@Janes28: Not really, because it has no effect on starting position. Racers know where they are starting already and have no reason to gun it. Vali will be quite a bit faster, you'll see.

As it says beneath the last photo in the article:

They call it Qualification, but it's more similar to a World Cup's Timed Training session as rider order Sunday is determined by UCI ranking.

WOW! Vali Holl did very well! That's so unexpected. Someone should sponsor her!!!

@scott-townes I get the saracsm, but, in case people don't.....She rides for our team, SRAM - TLD - RACING.
  • 7 1
@troyleedesigns: Well, some PBers have a hard time understanding humor, it seems! Wink
  • 12 0
@troyleedesigns: I got it. But ok with sram, ok with tld, who the heck is racing???
  • 9 6
@troyleedesigns: Hey Troy - I've been meaning to ask you how come you raced DH in Sport Class at the US Nationals at Mammoth in 2004? I would have podium'd. Well, maybe not. You brother also beat me in that race. Are you still sandbagging? I'll take my answer off the air. Oh also I'm not bitter.
  • 26 4
@troyleedesigns: Ah OK, I thought she just had rich parents to buy your gear and she spray painted the Red Bull logo on her helmet. Thank you for the clarification.
  • 18 0
 Minnaar Dsq??
  • 7 1
Saw this on scribd too. Praying it is a mistake, as he shows 7th in the article. Please be a mistake.
  • 1 0
But, says hes top 10 also?? weird.
  • 10 0
As protected rider he is still qualifying.
  • 4 0
Same as Greenland who DNFed, they both qualify, look in the right column there's a little 'Q'.
  • 6 2
There is a Q at the end of the line which means he is still qualified (based on his current ranking?). I guess he crashed or crossed the tape at some point before the first split and didn't bother going back. Or he bailed out to be an early starter (could be a strategy depending on the weather forecast for the day of the race) ?
  • 12 3
 Protected riders, you silly gooses.
  • 3 0
That’s what I was hoping, but I ain’t taking nothing for granted these days! Lol
  • 2 0
 @opignonlibre: start order is unaffected
  • 2 0
Is there even qualifying? I thought Worlds that all invited athletes get to race, and "qualifying" is really just a seeding run to determine race start order.
  • 1 2
 @gramboh: only top 60 still I believe.
  • 3 0
@BikesBoatsNJeeps: actually for worlds, everyone is pre-qualified.
  • 2 0
@opignonlibre: for a second there I thinking Q wwg1wga... thanks for clarifying... braaap.
  • 13 1
Good to see Hart still showing what he has, roll on race day as that's the only thing that counts, times practice is no indicator as many will have been keeping 10% in reserve.
  • 14 0
Yeah Hugo Langevin, great local rider. Pin it for the final!
  • 3 0
J'ai vu ça aussi ! Impressionnant...!
  • 12 0
Pompon ! Also I'm glad the Denim destroyer managed to do the trip to Worlds Champ.
  • 1 0
He did?Damn,no one mentioned it, having crashed last round I would have put him in Fantasy Team this time around.

 YEAH Neko!

It's also on Red Bull TV now in UK

Greenland must have gone down hard between splits 2 and 3. Still hasn't registered a split 4 time, and now is listed as a DNF. Hope he's ok.
  • 2 0
Completely blew up his rear wheel (literally in pieces)... I saw his bike go by in the pits but appears that he's doing fine.
  • 1 0
Blown up rear wheel on the speedway. Ended up walking down at the the end with the rest up the soaking wet beer guzzlers at the end. He managed to save it...but just barely.

Vidal rides enduro 90 % of the time shows up to this and could seriously win it. Crazy fast frenchies.
  • 4 0
 8th fastest male
  • 3 0
Saw this kid ride in Tahoe. His riding style is like hop, skip, schralp. Every section. And smooth asf. The French have 'it'
  • 3 0
I remember when there was a good stack of GB juniors, have they gone enduro these days?
  • 14 0
True that! Seems like a generational hole in the UK DH nowadays. Until now there were always Brits on the hunt in juniors...
In the mean time, Canada seems to have a stacked field in DH which is pretty cool! I believe it is the legacy of Stevie and it feels great!

The UK used to run a good national series where up and coming riders would compete against the worlds best. It has delivered a good couple of years of great racers, but I don't think the series are still there is also less fresh blood. I wouldn't blame this on enduro racing. If anything, you'd say that's where the French talent is going! Dirt magazine sure must have been an inspiration back then too, so now that they went out of print (and the website doesn't seem to be updated anymore either), a big part of the inspiration is gone as well.
  • 1 0
@vinay: dirt magazine is sorely missed????.
  • 1 0
@westcoastmassive: Yes, if you want a decent bike mag in the UK you now only have Cranked.
  • 1 0
@fatduke: Yeah, Cranked is great (I'm subscribed and have all issues from the start) but I see that more as a general mountainbike magazine like what Eskapee.com was/is on the internet than something with the gravity focus like what Dirt used to have. Unfortunately I'm seeing no more new articles on Eskapee.com either. It seems like running a mountainbikemagazine these days is a huge challenge, be it online or in print. I even joined the Eskapee collective but for 2019 they refunded my subscription. They just couldn't make it work out. Glad Cranked is still going strong and luckily theymanage to stick to their high standards. But even though they also feature the gravity and dirt jump scene, somehow I don't think this is the kind of medium that gets kids fired up to get into gravity/dj riding. That said, I did find my oldest daughter (9yrs) browsing through the latest Cranked issue, so I may be wrong there. Lets hope!

Damn, Danny Hart came to play! Still a day of practice though. Going to be an exciting race!

So do Disqualified riders still get to race on Sunday?
  • 2 2
If you finish in the 10 top for overall season you become a protect rider the following season.
  • 2 0
@femto505: I understand that but wasn't sure for Worlds as the whole format is different. 4 practice days, no timed training and what not..
  • 3 1
Why is the final times different from the times at the top of the article... also GO CANADA
  • 3 3
 Fixed - thank you!
  • 1 2
I don't see the mens Scribd list either
  • 3 0
Incredible times by the Junior Men!! Go Elliot!!
  • 2 0
Jack Moir and Neko with very solid runs! Will be great to see them ride towards the end.
  • 1 0
Yes!! Super excited for Team Intense! Hopefully AG can get it done this weekend too!!
  • 3 1
Vali's time in the article doesn't match scribd
  • 4 0
 Now it does... Thanks!
  • 2 0
On Instagram Holl says she crashed in the run, but still evidently got a fast time.
  • 3 0
 pompom killing it !!!!
  • 2 0
There are some fast Canucks in the Junion Men catagory.
  • 3 1
Eliot Jamieson raced in the elite men's CX race out in South Surrey last fall. He crashed and had his bars stuck 30 degrees to the left and still managed to put the pressure on the lead rider right to the end to claim second. And earlier this year he raced the CES Vedder mountain Enduro on Norcos XC full suspension bike and snapped his crank arm off on the final stage and still placed 6th The kid is fast on all bikes haha
  • 3 1
 What happened to Greg? DSQ?
  • 1 0
Whats with the discrepancy between your listing of Minnaar and the UCI page showing a DQ?
  • 2 0
Everyone gets to race, it is not like a regular round where it is top 60 and if any of the top 20 do not make it they are in. It is world champs, I miss when they use to have like 140 guys from all over the world, a bit of a shit show but made for some interesting line choices.
  • 3 1
Does Greg still get to race if he gets disqualified in qualifying?
  • 1 0
Kind of what I'm wondering too. Still has a Q next to his name.
  • 2 0
@onemanarmy: Yeah I’m going to need him to race to have any chance of holding my fantasy ranking haha.
  • 1 0
Yes, he's protected because of his ranking. He will still race on this weekend.
  • 1 1
Seems Maes needs to get the speed pace trough the season... Competing outside seems always gives you a plus if you don't get burn out...
  • 2 0
anyone know what happened to greenland?
  • 15 0
It's still there, just covered in snow and ice.
  • 1 0
@iamamodel: That's pretty funny, but I still wanna know what happened to Laurie
  • 1 0
Could of, should of, didn't; choose Danny Hart of FL team once the rain started. Great to see Myriam come back swinging.
  • 2 0
Hugo Langevin on 10th !??!!!! Yoooo!
  • 1 0
 Right?! Débile!!!
  • 3 1
 Pompom out of nowhere!
  • 4 0
Hardly, she's still one of the best female DH racers of her generation. Coming back on fire!
  • 6 0
@cool3: Not denying that, but to come off a serious extended injury and win qualifying at arguably the most rugged course out there = out of nowhere IMO.

It would be like Gwin winning qualifying for the men.
  • 3 2
@SectionThirtyOne: there is no such thing as "winning qualifying" :-)
  • 1 0
@opignonlibre: BTW she already shown at crankworks

Wow, did you see the max speed of Vali compared to the other junior women? Can't wait to see her in the Senior ranks!
  • 2 0
You can’t wait to see her 20’s down on the lead senior?
  • 2 1
@jclnv: We'll talk about that next year. I foresee a brilliant future for this young lady. Let's not forget she's just 18 right now...
  • 1 0
@jclnv: Vali crashed on her quali run
  • 1 0
@Verbl-Kint: I know but Rachel was often 10’s up on her. She’s just a kid, give her a break.

How many juniors qualify for sun?
  • 4 1
They all do, the worlds is invite, so everyone rides. The UCI has to do a better job explaining stuff to it fans.
