Sam Gaze looked to be back on a competitive race pace as he comes out on top in the Elite Men's race with a gap of just 0.5 seconds to the new European XC Champion Lars Forster. For the Elite Women, Laura Stigger took a huge win pulling ahead of Linda Indergand by nearly nine and a half seconds. Rebecca McConnell rounded out the top three over 30 seconds back.

Happy for Sam Gaze. What happened to him for so many years...lingering issues from a huge concussion?
  • 8 0
Both. He sustained a severe injury at the cape epic. At the beginning of 2019( I think) It is extremely common to suffer metal health problems post head injury/concussion. He was courageous in being open about his experiences. As well as having to deal with the effects of the concussion. Athletes will also have the effect of the withdrawal of neurotransmitters due to the inability to exercise. Which will further compromise metal health as well.

@gcrider: Yes, it was Stage 1 of the 2019 Cape Epic. He rode Stage 2 but did not ride well. He began Stage 3 and pulled out very shortly after the start. Since then he's not done well. IIRC, his best at a WC since was in the mid-30's. Good to see he's recovered some of his old form.

Still listed as an Alpecin Fennix rider so maybe he's aiming for a road transfer next year.

Didn't he have a stageierre ride with Quickstep a few years ago?

Good news that he is fit and healthy. Hopefully this will improve his world championship starting position a lot.

Good chance to be short track world champ
  • 1 0
That would be exciting to watch.
His starting position is probably sub optimal due to his lowish uci ranking
Ranking is 77 plus 120 points for this win ,so with some bad math and guesstimating still prob about 50th once updated
61 pre- entered for XCC
(No Nino or KORETZKY Victor for XCC)
101 pre- entered for XCO
( no Pidcock or MVDP)

@gcrider: a HC race win gives you 100 points. Also, he won a C1 race (60 points) exactly one year ago. Those points could be subtracted before the start of the World Champs

Thanks. It was my bad speed reading. Not bad math that I stuffed up. @prevail:

Good to see Laura doing well again too. She's been up and down this year with Allergy or Asthma problems, I forget which.
Air quality (pollen) and humidity have really taken their toll on her.

 Is Ginia Claudio's daughter?

I see the Americans are getting some race training. Where are the Canadians?

Hello pinkbike-- thanks for the coverage! Would love it if the headline didn't spoil the race! Thanks!

So you can click on the article and see results? Don’t go on the internet if you don’t want spoilers on IG, Pinkbike, etc
  • 3 1
@avg-roadie: hey! No I think there must've a mis understanding. The headline literally says who won the the race without clicking anything.
  • 4 1
is it possible to watch this race? if there's no way of watching it, then how can it be spoiled for you?
  • 6 1
New rule: don't go on the internet or social media if you don't want to see race results.

It's not the world cup, it's the local swiss series which is hard to find a VOD to watch.

@abef: The women's race is on You Tube and I watched it yesterday, I'm assuming the men's is there too.
  • 2 0
@abef: The women's race is on youtube; the mens is on swiss sport tv behind a paywall but that's unusual. So...yes...it is possible to watch : )
