Gwin! Yesterday all the jokers were on about how God was punishing him when he crashed in quali's. How are they going to explain today? What a run.
  • + 142
He's been on the holy water.
  • + 44
To all the people mocking the guy on his faith.....what now?
  • + 150
Faith aside, he is just one fast mutha.
  • + 162
Maybe God hit the pause button on the official timer for 5 seconds between splits 1 & 2 during Gwin's run?
  • + 10
 Yes, god plays favorites...

stupid gwin, taking away all the excitement of the race being five seconds up on everyone's time at the second split.
  • + 109
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it was his skill and not whichever god you worship.
  • + 98
I meant whatever Lourde you worship.
  • + 42
God works in mysterious ways? I think thats how it works when you can't explain it :p

Gwin can thank who he likes, we all know that he's the one putting in the hard yards though. Thoroughly deserved win!
  • + 63
Gods not real, so he probs won because he was faster than the other people...

I'm convinced that after gwins run nuns went and coated the track with tar and treacle between splits one and two. Exciting racing though but it takes a lot of the excitement out when the winning run is so early on

 What religion is he?
  • + 4
Obviously God pushed him twice. Once in the quali run, the other in the final.
  • + 2
^^who cares there all equally silly.
  • + 28
I always chuckle when the top american SX racers thank god in their post race interviews. Moto racing and Jesus are just a part of the rural USA culture. Maybe it helps to believe in a higher power when you out there risking your life every race?

Either way Gwin is a chill guy and always gives props to the other riders. Hard to fault him, and his riding speaks for itself! Re-watch the raw footage from practice and you can see just how much more speed he was carrying through some sections.

you guys are joking about something that is very serious. something that has eternal consequences. I know this is a biking site and all but I'm just gonna let you know that when the Lord returns, He will not look kindly on what u all have said. I don't believe there is anyone that is a true atheist, just people who are to proud to acknowledge a Higher Power. I'm almost embarrassed to be called a human because of how far we have fallen... One of the reasons I love biking is being able to ride in God's great creation!
  • + 2
 Aaron muthergrabbin Gwin. Yes.
  • + 24
luke- You're only now embarrassed to be a part of the human race because of a few comments online? How comfy is that rock you've been living under since birth? Super-T would be ashamed to see such a response on this site.

no, sir, that's not what I said. but I realize now I shouldn't have said what I did because faith is not something to be forced on anyone. its a choice. I believe in God... I didn't mean to come across harsh. I know this is not a place to discuss religions. sorry if I got u riled up...
  • + 0
Luke you said what you needed to say. I'm amazed at the commentary and mockery over a guy simply saying he gets his inspiration from a higher power. I'd only mock someone maybe if they said they were an pastafarian... I know double standards....
  • + 1
I'm still not complete sure if I'm gutted or happy for Hill, Smith, Peaty etc.
This track was too damn good for being a first round. It's f*cking normal everyone to take risks. And I don't thing it's a good thing most of the best riders to get injured at the begining of the season. Always is best for last, stupid UCI, I'll make a headcam preveiw whit a root in their as*es!

 Gwinnin gwinnin gwinnin
  • - 1
@BiNARYBiKE don't you understand? Jesus did make him crash in quali, to allow him to start first for the race, when the track was still in "good" shape
Joking aside, for my part I mocked gwin for his faith, but I never said he wasn't a great athlete
  • + 7
Just let me man be, or admire his radness. Gwin isnt pushy about his faith, he is a class sportsman (note his props to Loic and mike Jones after the race) and he is an incredible athlete. And this is coming from an atheist Canadian, so by most measures I should hate the guy, right?
  • + 4
tbf we all made fun of gee for been a bit too serious or whoever doing what ever, why should he get a free pass just because he has a silly book?
  • + 2
God helped Gwin win? Why didn't he answer the prayers of the little christian girls in Africa who are being beheaded for suspected witchcraft? I have no interest in a God who cares about a mountain bike race, yet doesn't answer the prayers of innocent girls in atrocious situations.

Jesus is just a copycat of Zoroaster anyway. He was around 4000 years before Christ supposedly lived.

  • - 1
They were kidding but I completely agree ahaha
  • + 10
Also we all made fun of ratboy and hart for their strong accent, I don't see why we shouldn't make fun of gwin for his faith.
  • + 4
what the hell guys? we are here to talk about bikes, not to nitpick on what someone believes. As long as the riding is awesome, don't care about the rest. Since when the PB comments section turned into a sophomoric hate-filled spoiled-bratty wasteland that is the Youtube comments section. Grow the f**k up
  • + 3
we can laugh at whatever we want get over it.
  • + 9
Props to the guy for showing a genuine faith and using his opportunities to talk about that. He gives credit where he thinks credit's due, and that's pretty cool. Negative props to all you guys smashing him for using that opportunity to talk about something that he believes in, that literally has nothing to do with you anyways, just because you're butthurt about it.I dislike Christians who condemn as much as I dislike anyone else who condemns Christians for what they believe.
  • + 4
You are right, we have the right to make fun of whatever we want, nothing is sacred, I agree. The problem is when things get to serious and/or hate comments start to appear. And at the end of the day, we are here to drool over bikes, aren't we?

He seems like a stand up guy you gotta think he'd thank all those guys later. As a Christian he's called to share his faith and he's just using the best way he sees fit to do that - on the largest scale he can. You don't have to listen if you don't want to.

Because it's an active way of showing what you believe in. You clearly believe that Christianity is dumb, so you don't hesitate to share that. He believe's God is real so he's not afraid to share that. Sharing it isn't what makes him a Christian but he does it because he's a Christian.

  • + 4
Is it too much to ask for religion to be kept out of this? I myself do believe in God, but I would really appreciate reading an article celebrating Gwin's win without having to watch somebody bash/mock him because of his beliefs. The guy could pray to a freaking rock, and I wouldn't care, in fact the LAST thing I would do is mention it in a useless Pinkbike comment. Honestly, if he would have credited his successes to anything else but God, nobody would have given a crap about it.
  • + 2
Because he's not showing hate at all, and you are. It's one thing to respectfully disagree and it's another thing to hate on a person's beliefs. Believe me, it kills me when Bible thumping "Christians" go after people who don't believe what they do and become judgemental a*sholes. But that's not what it's about, and it just makes the whole situation worse. Those "Christians" aren't living out what they supposedly believe at all.

  • + 65
Not really @jose... it would just mean that the coverage would start an hour earlier. You don't have to watch the girls if you don't want - but personally I'd be loving any excuse to yell at the computer, drink beer and watch some quality riding for an extra hour!
  • + 15
There are 2-3 riders on track at once, how else are they meant to show all the riders runs from top to bottom?
  • + 57
 they deserve equal coverage
  • + 67
It sucks most that they cut the # of riders shown. Only the top 5 women and the top 20 men (and not even the protected riders slotted in before the 20th place qualifier). Previous years have been top 10 women and top 30 men including protected riders slotted in.
Probably due to cost of the live feed (time = $) but not great for the growth of the sport IMO!!!!

Its the same format that Red Bull TV (and Freecaster before) has always used - need to pay more attention.
  • + 6
they only show the top guys so you can also argue that only winning is important and not just taking part
  • + 28
I like that they don't show the women live in order to remove the gap between women's and men's races, but the number of riders they showed this race was incredibly disappointing.
  • + 6
I agree @src248. Want to reduce the gap between women's races and men's redbull? Then show more men's runs before the top 20 qualifiers.

It's such a shame after such a positive step forward for gender equality in mountain biking and many other sports in the last few months.

Rachel atherton sponsoring women's BDS categories, si Paton with all his work towards female coverage and prize money. In other sports, a woman raced in the grand national this weekend for the first time and the men's and women's rowing race in Oxford too place on the same day for the first time this week. And yet redbull reduce overall coverage especially in the women's field.
  • + 7
But I watched the women live? Or am I missing something.
  • + 3
Redbull showed the women but not live. They were all repeats. (Tracey Hannah's crash was brutal).

Redbull did show a bit of the live women's but it was just raw footage with the French live commentary and in really poor quality.
  • + 36
Who cares if it was live or not? If you see a page titled "results" and you haven't seen the race yet, DON'T LOOK AT THE RESULTS. Its like talking to a 5-year-old... I was disappointed in how many riders they showed but both the men and women were not completely shown so what's this trash about equality? I enjoyed this a lot but hopefully they will show more riders next time.
  • + 8
i wanna see the runs of Gee and Blenki, did both crash or why are they so bad? :/
  • + 26
Redbull will read these comments so complaining here is actually a good thing so that they change it back to how it always has been. 10 women and 30 men. Yes they cut both the mens and womens but it is easy to see who got the shortest end of the stick. And how shit is it that we didn't get to see at least all the protected riders runs in real time, play them before the live coverage begins. Hang your head in shame redbull.... In fact what made me laugh in the broadcast was them being made to explain a downhill bike, pretty much everyone watching would have knew what it is and what it can do because everyone watching is already interested in downhill, you are not broadcasting on TV where people will stumble on it by changing the channel.
  • + 12
It would be nice to see a few more riders in both womens and mens for sure, but on the other hand the "show" was way better edited than previous years. I think Red Bull did a fantastic job with the live highlights, awesome coverage of nearly the entire course, with very few riderless shots, the quick recap of the parts we missed off air were awesome, inlcuding the current hot set run, etc. The have a show that they could pretty much sell to a TV station now if they wanted. Overall, I think it is good for the sport. *obviously it was a shame that we missed most of the winning run, but the results in qualis and the final were all over the place!
  • + 72
Yeah Redbull shame on you for providing free partially live coverage of a niche sport with globally low spectator numbers. Won't someone think of the children!!!
  • + 0
 @j-cru least you did.

@Mugen now that you mention it, the edit quality was quite good.... but it was always edited good for previous races since redbull picked it up. The only good addition that they have put in was the actual split time by the leader. But I think that you have actually hit the nail on the head with them selling the broadcasts to a tv station, change the format as a tester then channels will be more willing to buy a shorter show to try it out. watch out for that in 2016.

Let's be honest your daughter wants to watch gwinny crush the field. Not doze off watching Rachel tip toe down the hill
  • + 11
I like watching the women as much as men, but the fact is women's field is much smaller the mens so showing top 5-10 women is proportionally about right.
Also there is more than 1 rider on course until the latter stages so showing everyone live isn't possible. They'd still be racing tomorrow if they waited until the finish line before the next rider set off.
They only have camera coverage of about 1/3 of tracks so you'd have no rider on screen showing everyone live for most of the time.
We get dh world cup viewing for free, yes it could be improved but stop complaining girls...and boys
  • + 1
I agree that it's not easy for redbull to get as-live-a-possible footage of rider after rider especially when they offer it to us for free. Obviously they get money from advertising but for us to get it free I am very grateful for. I just wish that we could see more of the riders.
  • + 2
Most of the men aren't live either!
  • + 2
@konabigshed; I didn't watch the live event, but I'm watching the replay now and they are showing the ladies' runs. Watching Tracey Hannah now. Watching using the Redbull app on AppleTV. Hopefully your daughter can watch it still.
  • + 1
@lobohuskey. The women weren't shown live (or close to live) like the men. The last few riders runs were shown on replay just before they showed the men's runs
  • + 8
I hate it so much when the FREE LIVE COVERAGE we get doesn't cover every rider.

Damn Red Bull, giving us better coverage than 99% of other sports on the planet for free but not showing the womens...
  • + 7
one word Freecaster! This was always going to be the case with RedbullTv and the UCI it was and will get less each year, they are not growing the sport and never were inspite of all the other things that happen outside of these too compaines that do grow the sport, where as FreecasterTv did help grow and promote the sport, its 2015 people, not 1915, stop making excuses for them or you are as responsible as they are for going backwards, probably one of the best tracks and starts to a season in years and this is how they showcase it. Great results, real mix in mens and awesome to see Emmeline back on top again.
  • + 0
Yeah I saw the top 8 women. Rachel and Emmeline's runs were wicked. I found the women's runs more entertaining, because it was pretty much watching a bunch of guys fight for 6th place while noone comes close to Aarons run.
  • + 2
I was also quite pissed, that they showed less riders, both men and women. I would rather have more digests riders and less replays of the stuff they did and introductions and shit... Also previously it was sometimes life 2.5 hours long, now only 2h... More riders! More time!
  • + 1
would have been nice if the camera's were a bit more spread out along the course too, there was far too much coverage of the bottom of the course where the race had already been won or lost
  • + 93
So what i guest Pro-Core is not a panacea for the flat tyres.....
  • + 56
pretty bad press for them when they show the slo-mo of it flappin around

Yeah, didn't seem to do much good there.
  • + 7
 Procore is a gimmick.
  • + 6
Its probably just for the placebo effect
  • + 29
Maybe they went with the am-core this time around?
  • + 30
Guys relax. you dont know why it failed. maybe probably ran a prototype version. maybe the side of tire got stuck under a rock or root. probably probably.
but do you really think pros would run a "gimmick or "placebo" that adds 300 gr and you cant even see for publicity?!
  • + 18
Or maybe he smacked a rock so hard it would have blown through solid rubber and destroyed the rim either way. He is Neko and that was a World Cup DH course
  • + 9
In the slo mo it looked like the wheel was smashed well before the pro core was flapping.

  • + 1
 @zede probably
  • + 66
Dissappointed we couldn't see Gwins run full speed, the slo-mo really kills any ability to compare how fast people are going. Slo-mo should be for crashes only.
  • + 26
And they finally show it around the 1:22 mark for anyone looking. Ludicrous speed!
  • + 32
He hit the final turn before the bridge so much faster than anyone else and it wasn't even close!
  • + 12
Yeah as Stanmarsh says, he must have gained at least a second on that final turn before the bridge drop, it almost looked like he blew through it. I also think he benefited massively from running early, the course was so blown out towards the end, it was evolving fast. thats not to take anything away from his run though, he was on fire today.
  • + 6
I wondered if his qualifying DQ was strategic?
  • + 32
It was the Lourdes plan...everything happens for a reason
  • + 2
I have Gwin's run at 1:16:45 on the replay, not 1:22...
  • + 1
Did anyone realize his bar wideness?? 84 perhaps??...
  • + 10
@codypup, nothing strategic about Gwin's DSQ. He crashed and rejoined the course at a different point than where he went off, which is an automatic disqualification. The bike went so far down the hill that had he climbed back up to rejoin the course where he went off in order to avoid the DSQ, he would have lost so much time that he would have gotten a DNQ anyway. Either way he would have gotten the same starting position. Someone caught it on their cellphone camera... instagram.com/p/1WTjG1FSsJ

  • + 16
 He looks pinned so far.
  • + 8
I think Fairclough is the most talented bike rider on the circuit, but he doesn't seem to be in the same stratosphere as the top guys in regards to fitness.
  • + 6
Hart had a barn storming mid section as well - gwin was just fast in all sectors
  • + 10
I really wanted Fairclough to be on the podium. I hope he does good this season tup

Hats off to Gwin, that was an amazing run he put together. I wonder what Protour will say about that "inferior" design now...
  • + 38
Oh lourde gwin had some sneaky lines in there especially on that last corner! Awesome to see someone really go all or nothing with line choice and utilize the whole course in between the tape. ps..... hell yeah brendog!!
  • + 21
You noticed that too! Gwinn was the only one to hit that corner wide and not lose any speed. Almost took out the tape tho, risky but worth it.
  • + 13
Gwin hit a warp zone between split 1 and 2
  • + 36
Bruni crosses the line and the first thing he sees is a guy with a cock for a nose ! priceless
  • + 33
We need a "revolution" in tire/wheel technology
  • + 14
Boost and pro-core there you have it... noooot
  • + 6
 mousses.
  • + 6
 There won't be one.

The biggest problem is that the riders all run with a certain amount of risk, as we saw when carbon fibre frames were making their first changes. The first v10 was the same weight as the old but ridiculous amounts stronger, but now they have reduced weight to improve speed. They don't improve the durability, they improve weight reduction while maintaining previous strength/reliability standards. They run that speed advantage at a failure percentage risk. And so when lighter newer more reliable methods of keeping tires up come around they'll cut it down until they get the same amount of problems, just lighter/grippier/more predictable. The problem is getting that % of risk vs. time gained to an acceptable level. Either that or sweeping enforcement of a tire/tube/wheel standard across the series that nullifies punctures but that's highly unlikely.
  • + 5
maybe another wheelsize or 17,535mm axle standard would would solve this Big Grin
  • + 6
Back to 26 I have just had a vision....
  • + 1
 @headshot never mooved from it
  • + 0
@tom-cuthbert its really not that cut and dry. The carbon frames are lighter not only to save weight but so they don't end up completely rigid blocks, frames need built in flex to handle right. As for tire performance/reliability vs weight, its a totally different ball game than frame building, relating one to the other really doenst make much sense in the context you've put it in.
  • + 27
Anyone complaining about the free and excellent coverage from Red Bull deserves a wedgie. For most of my mountain biking life I had to wait a month to read about a race result in a magazine or a day later on a website. The coverage our niche sport gets now is amazing.
  • + 27
 Fascinating start to the season.

Gutting to hear Claudio have to commentate whilst watching Mulally’s puncture…that’s racing I suppose.

Also remarkable to see that Gwin was one of very few riders to take an in-wide, out-tight line on the blown-out corner at the end where almost every other rider seemed to lose speed...
  • + 26
He cut all his time between split 1 and 2, exactly where the cameras were NOT... I would have loved to see how he managed to be 6-7 seconds up in front of everyone else like that. Great race, can't wait for Smith and Hill to be back though. Exciting season ahead of us for sure.
  • + 10
Must have been a hell of an impact to insta-deflate the procore tube too..
  • + 4
he looked like he gained at least a second on that corner alone
  • + 6
I've been saying it for years for downhillers on rough tracks - run your suspension stiff! Motocrossers have been doing it for decades. It allows your bike to skip over the top and not get swallowed up in the holes.
  • + 4
Good luck everyone else fighting it out for second in the series!
  • + 4
Thanks for the advice @wayparsons. I'll try it today. But do you really need to say "i've been saying for years..." check your ego buddy.
  • + 3
@Narro2 no ego, just watching dudes using soft forks and diving into holes makes me cringe.
  • + 12
Kinda ironic that claudio was saying how they run a special system to prevent the tyre from coming off the rim , that will be another 6 months before procore is released to the not-so eagerly awaiting public.
  • + 10
@WayneParsons takes a degree of skill that few of us have to be able to ride effectively with sus that stiff
  • + 2
A lightweight mousse is what they need to run on such a gnarly non pedally track like that. Flats shouldn't be a part of the game.
  • + 3
@hamncheez totally, but what it forces you do is ride faster because its so brutally rough and shitty at slow speeds hahaha
  • + 3
There's a balance between having forks stiff enough and too stiff. I used to run my suspension incredibly stiff and swore by it but then I realized that there's a lot of downsides to that stiffness like less grip and not absorbing chatter very well. I'm still on pretty stiff forks but at an amount that gives grip and absorbs the bumps well.
  • + 1
@wayneparsons, ok. Just dont take it too seriously. You dont have acess to all riders in the world to tell them your ideas. Accepting that fact will help you with the cringing.
  • + 1
narro2 - I think everyone heard of Protour Big Grin
  • + 1
You have to adapt to different courses and adjust accordingly
  • + 1
Hahaha. I usually try to stay away from that protour guys since i am riding a stumpjumper. wayne, just tried hard suspension, i like it on the shock, i guess i will keep tweaking with the fork until i find the sweet spot.

Stoked for Brendan Fairclough! 6th and putting together a huge run. Wiping out in the arena too. It was a belted of a run to watch!
  • + 20
It's not the same with Sober Warner...
  • + 1
the commentary was a bit dull.
  • + 13
To be honest I reckon they should just show the whole thinking from start to finish. As in all of the women LIVE and all of the mens live, it's this constant build up and anticipation of the times getting quicker and quicker that makes it exciting. You quite often get some wild cards as well which only adds to the excitement.
  • + 17
That broadcast would be five hours long, and they'd end up with people tuning into the last hour anyways. I used to like the top 10 women, top ~30 guys with protected riders' runs mixed in at the start.
  • + 1
I think there's no harm in offering the option. Fair point though maybe all is a bit excessive, but certainly more than is being shown currently would be much better.
  • + 3
I certainly agree with that. Heck, I'd watch five hours of broadcast if it were available. Haha.
  • + 2
Thats how it used to be, and while it was fun, it gets a bit tiring to watch. Rob would often comment on how he didnt have info on the 80-40 guys and didnt want to use up his good lines and energy too early. There was also the issue that earlier on in the day, there are 2-3 riders on the track at once, so sometimes top riders who qualified poorly could be missed anyway. It is definitely a better show now in my opinion, but it is always a bit anti-climactic when a top seed qualifies poorly and lays down a winning run early.
  • + 3
The thing is even though I can only ride enduro badly I love watching DH races, and even though I'm stoked on watching it for free online it really sucks that we miss at least half of everyone's run and we only get 5 women pre-recorded and no juniors. Isn't the sport big enough to show the entire of the top 10's run and the Ladies Live? If not it's poorly marketed. Red Bull, your drink is disgusting and hideously sweet energy drink, FFS sake make a low sugar Gatorade type 'electrolyte sport drink', make more money and spend it on DH.
  • + 1
@urbanCamel do you know how much a satellite uplink for all the footage would cost for that length of a broadcast?
  • + 0
Yeah as I said in my second comment, all is defiantly excessive. I was just making the point that it would be good to see more of the racing live, especially the women's which we see very little off. These are minor complaints though, pretty happy just to be able to watch one of my favourite sports live for free, not many other sports that can be said off.
  • + 14
Man oh man, Gwin sure is slow. That shitty slow bike sure seems to cramping his style. Just think, maybe he could get first place with a bike that isn't so shitty.....said every idiotic troll on PB.
  • - 5
flag gonzaga8 (Apr 12, 2015 at 10:32) (Below Threshold)
Anyone who says demos are shitty its because they don't have one and can't afford one, Specialized is one of the biggest cycling companies in the world and they've been out there since forever... Just check the overall rankings of the past years they are always on the top 5, that's gotta count for something! Wink
  • + 3
@gonzaga8 I had a Demo for a full season, and though it wasn't the worst bike I ever had, It was definitely an odd ride and I never found it very inspiring. The super short stays and really long front center forces you to ride off the back of the bike to keep it neutral (watch Troy ride it) and though it corners nice, It's strange to set up for jumps and is pretty terrible at handling square-edge impacts. Needless to say, I sold it, called it a learning experience and moved on. This new Demo is a different machine so maybe they have tackled some of those issues. But sorry no, not everyone who says Demos aren't all they claim to be "can't afford one". As for specialized being in the top rankings of WC riders...I'll take a guess that it has more to do with the riders than the bike.
  • + 2
Two seasons and a redesign later, Gwin is back to where he was with Trek all along. This bike proves nothing about the last. I've no dog in this fight. Just pointing out the obvious.
  • + 13
Real proud of our small but mighty team! Gwin winning in his new signature SPRINT kit, available June 12th, Fairclough in Sprint and D3 in 6th, Luca Shaw in his pro debut grabbing 11th place for SRAM TLD RACING.
  • + 12
So stoked for Mike Jones getting his 1st podium and Danny getting a result for his 1st race with Mondraker.
Kinda sucked that Gwin was down so early as it robbed us of drama. Everyone else was like 5 sec down at the 2nd split! Funny how no cameras inbtween splits 1&2 where Gwin made up all that time! #justsaying
  • + 16
So sad for neko, stoked for brendog and where is gee?
  • + 2
They talked about Gee's crash in qualifying but never mentioned whether he raced or not
  • + 2
 Thats why im curious
  • + 3
Okay, gee is 45th,maybe crashed or mechanical
  • + 4
Gee is injured after his crash yesterday, he did a run in order to have a good training time for Fort Bill.
  • + 8
Gee has a broken wrist and his hand was taped to his bar.
  • + 4
Oh,sad to hear, didnt know his Crash yesterday was that bad
  • + 1
I agree with you powpowpow. Please bring the old ROB back, otherwise it sounds like a shity espn broadcast.
  • + 1
I saw a crash of his on vital. looked like he'd been knocked unconscious.
  • + 13
Gwin and Bruni are somehow expected to do well. Congrats! But I guess an equally big story is Mike Jones in 3rd! And Fairclough!! Where have you been? Its about time Smile
  • + 5
You got that right, mike Jones what a mad dog!
  • + 15
 MIKE JONES!!!

Who?

MIKE JONES!!!
  • + 14
OH LOURDE I CANT WAIT FOR THIS RACE!!!!
  • + 1
 @raybao why just why hahaha
  • + 1
how can raybao get neg propped for that?
  • + 14
Gwin SMASHES it! Well done to a top bloke!
  • + 13
WHOO, great to see Gwin in form!
  • - 1
He was FAST at Fontana before his flat. Gonna be a good year for him.
  • + 14
 Protour?
  • + 12
Gwin 1st on both splits, almost 7 seconds gap on 2nd place!! Gwin for the win!!!
  • + 9
wow australia two out of the top three, well done guys! Greenland was close, wow. Really anyone in the top four could have taken the win. Feed starting in one hour accoridng to Redbull so Im not looking here again!
  • + 2
And the other Crimmins won thredbo staties today as well
  • + 11
5 girls shown on stream is a stinker, PB get in touch with redbull will ya? cheers.
  • + 7
Interesting relatively no commenting on Bryceland. My hats off to Gwin, but Bryceland running 7th after that horrific injury last year is equally as impressive as Gwin's win. Nod to Brendog for his solid top 10 finish. Wicked course!
  • + 10
I wanna see gwin's full run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tracey 's crash was gnar !!!!
  • + 8
Did they purposely not show the split time and final time comparison for the last three riders in order to add drama to the race?
  • + 2
 It worked! haha
  • + 2
 arggghhh, UCI!
  • + 6
Good race on a hard track , we all were waiting for it !!! Wish a soon & complete recovery to all the injured (list being long......)
Happy for Aaron !!!!!! An example that you can be a hard and humble rider and at the same time be a witness of the God that created and take care of us......
  • + 9
Its like a few years ago, everyone scratching their heads how Gwin can gain so much time on EVERYONE
  • + 5
 TALENT + TRAINING + CONFIDENCE .......
  • + 7
5 Brits in the top 10. Fuck yeah! Not doing too bad for a little island where the biggest mountains are barely 1000M! Yet British Cycling are slowly backing out of everything DH and Enduro...
  • + 9
Rob and Claudio asking : Where was the miracle between split 1 and 2 ? God is riding with you Gwin!
  • + 6
Hardly any cameras before the first split, and thats where all the magic happened! I hope they piece together some better footage of Gwin's run that the shortened highlights we saw.
  • + 5
That was such a good opening round. Gwin finally gelling with Specialized, and 5 Brits in the top 10. And we've yet to see Gee, Sam and Stevie ride. Stoked to see Brendog in 7th. He put in a fuckin' good run. Can't wait for Fort William
  • + 6
Claudio I thought you had a system that made it impossible for the tire to come off in case of a flat? Haha seriously though it shows how hard Mulally was charging when he got that flat!
  • + 8
Could Gwin be back? Makes things interesting now that he's set the time to beat.
  • + 8
What the hell did he do to get that time??
  • + 1
 He fell in jetpack
  • + 11
maybe it's those new AG1 grips, gotta get me some
  • + 1
 Lol @torero what?
  • + 0
 huh? lol
  • + 5
Ok I just can't help but ask.. @Protour do we blame the God you seem to despise or Specialized for these results? I bet you think God probably mad a deal with the devil and Specialized probably bought a special frame from trek!!! Lol
  • + 10
 Demo hatters suck that
  • + 17
 Ya, where is Protour?
  • + 8
Let's not take away the day for gwin by summoning that up here
  • + 2
no body hates the demo its just that all love the old demo
  • + 8
Pumped on the win from Gwin. I'm really impressed by Brendog though!
  • + 8
I hope we get Gwin's helmet cam footage.
  • - 2
All helmet cams were banned by the UCI. Ratboy's run from a few days ago is the last one you will see.
  • + 1
 www.pinkbike.com/news/uci-amend-rules-on-the-use-of-onboard-cameras-2015.html

Perhaps he had one on his bike, along with the rocket drive Wink

Anyway: There must be footage, even if it is the UCI's. It would be amazing to see why he was so fast from split 1 to split 2.
  • + 4
I thought last season they lifted that ban??
  • + 7
Aaron Gwin is a Wizard. That run was ridiculously fast!

flag int3r (Apr 12, 2015 at 7:59) (Below Threshold)
He has Jesus in his team..Amen!! just look at the last turn before the bridge, he was the fastest. and on the section between split 1 and 2, is still mystery how he did it.
  • + 7
 Jesus rides a 29er.
  • + 6
well, brendog didnt have the fastest time, but for sure he ripped the hell out of this course
  • + 1
 YES!!
  • + 3
Aaron Gwin has all kinds of sneaky inside lines and little gaps hidden up his sleeve. One of the few guys really getting aggressive and creative with line choice in practice, he must being doing something right as he ended the day in 2nd after timed training.
Pb-mathew delorme, 4/10/15

  • + 7
 good to see mondraker back
  • + 6
MIKE JONES IS ON FIRE YEAA BOYY
  • + 2
Awesome track and great season opener!

I wish people would quit bitching about the coverage. It's free, in HD, split times (mostly) there was an amazing panning section, slow-mo replays, up close and personal interviews and with great sound too.

Trust me its all good. Roll on fort bill Smile
  • + 5
Ill ever understand why you mock a person for their beliefs. Great win today Gwin!
  • + 6
I bet Protour is out buying a Specialized Demo now.
  • + 7
 Nice work Luca Shaw!!!
  • + 6
Learnt a few things this race. Herp Derp Protour. Procore schmo-core.
  • + 5
Would of been interesting to see how far Bruni was off Gwin's time if he hadn't made that mistake on the first corner.
  • + 6
Looks like Loic was actually 1st at Split #1. Gwin was just that untouchable in the mid-section of the course.
  • + 5
Grinning...............gwin...gwinning! Winner winner... steak fu dinner! MERICA
  • + 5
Did Gee DNS then? and ridiculous run from Gwin, so much faster than everyone else!
  • + 3
Ah just found out he came 48th, not a good day then!
  • + 3
No he was 48th 16.5 sec back, guess he was still hurting from the crash.
  • + 11
According to his sister on twitter "World Cup #1, Lourdes,France. Brutal track, rad crowd!Geeman raced with a broken wrist", which explains the time, hopefully he's better for fort william.
  • + 7
I reckon gee is the only one who could have challenged gwin for the win on this track. I really hope he can come back for the next one
  • + 1
Broke his wrist. A lot of 'what if's' with this race. Hill, Flats everywhere, a sad showing from pro-core, etc. But hats off to Gwin for the first race of the season.
  • + 7
 Gwinnnnnn!!!!!
  • + 3
I'm waiting for the live stream, got all set with a cup of tea but wtf the women's race is done ? Says there's 8 minutes to go
  • + 1
RedBull lies when they say its a LIVE race. But thats ok anyway. Im happy they took Freecaster place and shows the race
  • + 3
Stupid phone won't load up the sheet...Can any one of you kind gents out there tell me how Jacob Dickson did? For such a small island, Ireland has some serious talent!

  • - 1
sorry guys. i was just asking for the elite men results haha
  • + 1
Fair play to gwin, that run was ridiculously silky with regards to how gnarly the track was. Who knows if it's pure skill or maybe running such hard suspension gave him the advantage. Either way, fucking pinned. Trying to view the results on a tablet is fucking useless, stupid scribd thing, can't even change the page
  • + 8
You mean it is pure skill that he can run such hard suspension, holding it together all the way down the track...?
  • + 1
 I totally agree!
  • + 2
yea its both really, gwins got the strength and focus to make that setup work
  • + 0
Lovely... I wonder if he took roids when he was a teenager... lol... that's why has such strong arms/shoulders/infra-spinatus etc. or mabye just genetics and lots of training. oh yeah, big balls too...
  • + 5
Anyone else having an issue with the Redbull feed?
  • + 6
Yeah, was working up to Manon's run, then cut to the red bull logo at the start of the next one Frown
  • + 0
What a great day for World Cup! I made it all the way til noon without having the results spoiled. Gwinny got a win,Brendog got a top ten,Ratboy is back on track. I Would have loved to have seen Minaar,Peaty,Sam,Blenki and Gee all race too but i guess not today. Tracey Hannah had a nasty wreck, glad to see her bounce back up. She loves to "overcook it" during races,I've noticed. Great first stop of racing but it was missing one thing...........Micayla!!
  • + 0
Amazing coverage of the race by Red Bull, but who had the bright idea of skipping protected riders??? With a couple hours of coverage why would you skip a couple of the top riders in the world who start right before you picked up the coverage?
  • + 4
Nice one Gwin, Loic and Jones! And awesome result for Mark Wallace!
  • + 2
just got up, anyone know whats happening with the live feed right now? says i got 37 some minutes? is that till womens elite starts?

  • + 3
Why is there already results when the live stream hasn't started ? wtf ?
  • + 4
It's not really live, they usually recap the top 5-10 women and then they can show little bits of the lower ranking guys all the way up until the top 20 guys, and then the final lot are "almost" live.
  • + 1
^this. It will be depressing if the coverage only starts for the elite men. Shame on you REDBULL if that's the case.
  • + 1
the livestream just coveres the top 30 men...
haven't you watched the previous worldcup livestreams?
  • + 2
Well there always was women in the previous years...
Maybe they should rename it "almost live feed" then.
Anwyay Ragot won, overall and world champs for her this year, we're done Smile
  • - 2
Yeah, you're right, I meant the actual live feed Wink
  • + 1
They ran this year the same as last. Be lucky you get to watch it for free at all
  • + 1
@DHMF yes I've seen previous WC coverage son, and also watched the Women's race on those feeds before... the coverage, was excellent for what its worth but the women not getting aired live was in my opinion, not ideal. The pre recorded recap before the elite men was merely the top 4 AFTER the results were declared. A loss for equality in the sport.
  • + 4
Crazy start to the season. Stoked for Gwin and Loic! Next stop, Fort Bill.
  • + 5
 Gwinnnn yeahhh
