A huevo! Yes boy! This is such an important moment for Mexican cycling. Gracias Gerardo. Mexican cycling has been neglected so much by our governing officials, we have so much potential but no support at all its great to see Gera on top of the podium.

 Doesn't huevo mean egg?
  • 7 0
 @mollow: It absolutely does
  • 2 0
@EnriqueGar: so what's the translation for when you guys say A huevo? Just curious
  • 15 0
@mollow: the loose translation would be something like 'f*ck yeah!'
  • 2 0
@mollow: yah it's one of those wierd expressions that are unique to a certain population

@mollow: can also mean the danglers, if you catch my drift.

First podium I think was Daniela Campuzano last year on Vallnord, but first place on a race only Ulloa.
  • 6 0
@HopeFbn: You are totally right!!! two good cyclists
  • 7 0

In this time of trying to push the sport of MTB into more regions and more inclusivity its GREAT to see Mexico with the podium! What a well run race, hoping to see more from Jose!

 well that was unexpected

Well, if we had to wait this long for racing, at least it was worth it. That was outstanding!

Too bad Evie didn't get on camera for her post win interview.
  • 8 0
Yeah, I was not impressed with the post-race coverage/interviews.. Evie seemed so genuinely excited and surprised by the result, judging by her voice. And all we got was a long shot of someone wiping mud off Pauline's face

Really? It was on live feed here...

 "switch to camera 3"

-Sorry I was taking a dump.

@Dropthedebt: Not in Kiwiland, either. Also didn't get the graphics showing all the placings either. If coverage wasn't free, I'd be writing a sternly worded letter by now...

On Redbull TV (watched post-live) the interview with Evie was there. She has such a great bubbly personality. And wow, is she a powerhouse. Her build reminds me of track riders. Can't wait to see how she does in XCO.

@mrkkbb: A double World Jnr Champion in Cyclo-cross, a huge future ahead of her. Tracey Mosley has been a huge influence. tup

Gran carrera del compatriota Gerardo Ulloa, Viva México!!
  • 6 0
How come Ulloa Arevalo is not included in the XC fantasy league?!
  • 4 0
I don't know and I'm offended lol he should be, he's been in the top a couple of times last year no reason not to have him in the fantasy pool
  • 2 0
@EnriqueGar: Yep, I wanted add Jose to my team. Next season, hopefully...
  • 2 0
Still, expected Nino to be up closer. But he knows points are meaningless I suppose? But start position is bad...he can come back from any row start and take the lead. Was nice to see some fresh faces at the front though. Loana Lecomte is someone to watch. When she beat Neff earlier in the year it caught my attention. Would have been another great year of racing...now it's just a crazy week.

It looks like he went down on the asphalt a turn or two right before where Avancini crashed on the muddy jumps. Probably pulled the plug rather than try to jump the whole field at that pace.
  • 1 0
 @bruvar: exactly, he crashed.
  • 4 0
The best shot of it is actually in the credits of the Red Bull Replay at 1:50:25

I had to watch it a couple of times, but you can see him go down hard after the tight turn on tarmac at the beginning of lap two. He, Sarrou, and Forster all go down (and maybe some others), and it takes 5-10 seconds for him to get moving again.

How are all the athletes traveling now? I'm sure they are not doing the 14-day quarantines that overwhelming majority of countries are requiring.
  • 2 0
My son travelled over there for Nove Mesto and Worlds XC and I was surprised to see the small amount of oversight required by the airlines to get into Europe. The main item was a recent COVID test at landing. Once they are there they have to live in a 'bubble' of their team and can get out for training.
  • 1 0
@Supermoo: But it is not the airlines, it is government immigration port at the airports that people traveling have to get through. Perhaps people are going through England because they don't have as strict requirements then jumping to different countries from there. Probably some loopholes that people are able to get around.
  • 3 2
Oh come on. The virus could have been completely contained in China at the beginning of the year. It’s a bit late for restrictions now.
  • 1 0
@jclnv: I don't disagree with you. China should have stopped all travel by their citizens internationally. The fact is that WHO is against stopping international travel from the origin country of an outbreak. I can see how stopping movement of supplies and services is detrimental to a country, but not stop citizens of travelling abroad during an outbreak makes no sense. However, the travel restrictions of every country are a reality now.

Is Emily Batty's keto working yet?
  • 1 0
Those who know, know she didn't do real keto, just selective low carb off season like 90% of WorldTour roadies.

PB did an article a while back where she explains the circumstances around her 2019 performances.
  • 4 0
She's more diesel than hot-rod and has never done too well in XCC. This is an area of improvement she does need to address as she was always getting fourth row slots at the races last year and effectively ruining any chance of good results. If she could get into the top 16, then I think she'd have a better chance come XCO-day. Hopefully she can chug along and get a good finish, because as it stands now, she's certainly number three rider at Trek, and if you think she had issues with Jolanda last year coming into the team, Evie is going to make it all the more harder for her.
  • 1 0
That makes more sense. I didn't see that on camera.
  • 1 0
No es fácil ser una pinche verga mexicana pero alguien tiene que serlo
  • 1 1
 Nino barely in top 30.
  • 3 1
Only 13 seconds separate 1st and 30th. My guess is he rode safely as there was a big group at the end.
  • 5 0
@blast-off: also Nino has admitted he is not that good on XCC, he must be saving the legs for the big day.
  • 5 0
@HopeFbn: He and Lars crashed (behind Avancini I think), and it did kinda look like he didn't put in the effort to climb back up to the front
  • 7 0
@EnriqueGar: I think Nino, Forster and Sarrou was caught up in the pileup on the sharp bend after the finish banner a round or two before Avancini’s crash. Strangely enough R&B (Rob & Bart) didn’t notice.
  • 1 0
@magnusc: I think it happened off camera or something I only noticed it after the scott sram guys posted it on their gram
  • 1 0
@EnriqueGar: It was on camera. I would not call it a crash. Just bikes getting mingled together in the tightest corner. Don’t think anyone hit the ground.

Nino says he hit concrete. Whether he crashed or not, when he got to the back of the pack he probably made a conscious decision not to exert all that energy to chase the front. Nove Mesto has one of the most generous start loops, where we've seen guys come from a few rows back by the time they hit the woods, so I doubt he's too worried.
  • 3 0
@magnusc: If you watch closely you'll see Nino's purple helmet drop right as he gets to the exit of the corner arc. Looks like the front tire dips off the road/under the barrier. The crowd behind flows to the right and you see him get back up a second or two later from almost the same spot.
  • 2 0
 @bruvar: Good eye!
  • 1 0
@bruvar: Sounds legit Smile I can see a bike on the ground, but everything else is just pixels. Was the rain the reason why the video quality was so bad or is it just my internet?
  • 1 0
 @magnusc: Your internet.
  • 1 0
Nino never really has been a good short track racer.
  • 1 0
@blast-off: Nino ride safely? Never. XCC is just not his thing, and if he got caught up on a corner it would have taken too much energy. It is crazy that they are doing XCO on Thursday and 2nd XCC on Friday -- that will be a excruciating. Followed by XCO on Sunday. I think he is just playing the game to have a reserve in the tank. XCO is his priority.
