The day after Richie Rude narrowly missed out on a podium at the Whistler EWS we dragged him out for a hot lap recap on Stage 4 - Heavy Flow to Hind Sight to Lower Tunnel Vision. So I guess you could call this a recovery ride.

(Sorry about the POV jump cuts. The gimbal was no match for Richie's riding, and we didn't have the heart to make him sprint the Tunnel Vision flat section.)

Sit back and engage warp speed.

He rides as if he has something personal against every trail he is on. Like he wants to hurt it. “Poor trail. It’s ok. He’s done.” Love his aggression.

Might be why he keeps breaking shit but...

I’ve had the same thought. He is obviously one of the fastest riders in the world, and if there is a more physically powerful pro I haven’t seen him. I think he quite quickly finds the limits of components. Had a friend like him who used to constantly destroy parts. Super strong, super fast and aggressive, it took a while for parts to get to the point where they could survive a season on his race bike.

@hifiandmtb: totally agree, he punishes the bike nd make it go and lean and twist however he wants... and I always remember that monstruous hick to flat at the end of top of the world stage from 2-3 years ago.. "slightly used sb6c for sale, only used at ine EWS race" good luck hahahah

@hifiandmtb: No bike parts would be happy with him. Who wants to be his rear tyre?

"THANK YOU RICHIE, MAY I HAVE ANOTHER?" - trail

@Lagr1980: That last jump to beat everyone by 15-20 seconds on Top of The World to win the EWS Whistler was one of those unforgettable racing moments...so insane...

@Lagr1980: haha did they really sale his race bike???

@phclaw: damn wish there was a clip of it somewhere

Me surviving a trail like that = Big achievement
That trail surviving Richie Rude = Bigger Achievement!

Show me on this trail map where the Rude hurt you..... (trail points, the whole trail)

Rude goes to my local bike park mountain creek, and when you see him ride in person you will completely further gain admiration for his skills and style. Super powerful rider and super cool dude. I guess all the luck he had when he won the enduro champs is evening out give those mechanicals of these two years. Stay strong Richie!!!!!!!

if the pov footage is not sped up that is ludicrous speed. wow

The EVO Gimbal you are using is no match for that chesty crap he is wearing. You need to run the Gimbal with a kids roost guard, or chest protector to support the weight. Amateur hour....
  • 3 1
stuntman chest harness is all you need.
  • 1 0
@poah: Ya that works. Anything with a lot of surface area on your body is good. I just run my TLD chesty and it works fine.
  • 1 0
@poah @ryane even my Stuntman sometimes isn't enough. Rode some demo enduro bikes down Schleyer & some other tech trails and the footage was all over the place. The roost guard def helps a lot. But the Stuntman is good for virtually everything.
  • 1 2
@dasendurbro: I use a secondary strap on the top. also have the gimbal close to the chest plate so is doesn't move much.

Watching Rude makes me feel bad about looking at new bikes to get a longer reach. I’m roughly the same size and that sb6c in a medium fits smaller than the bike I ride now. I should just shut up and ride my bike.

It's 9pm, raining, I've been sick for 3 days, and I really want to go ride my bike now... Thanks Richie

What would be interesting to know is how much faster he was during his race run. Or slower.

Bring back your dh bike Yeti!
  • 1 0
It's a national tragedy that he's not on the downhill circuit. Can we start a petition for Yeti to either put him on a DH bike or for him to sign with someone who will?
  • 3 0
Give that man a shovel. He just tore the flesh off that trail!

Even if the gimbal is bad, best video in a while. Helmet cams are pretty boring. Also, notice how fast/committed and low he throws that frame into the corners - LESSON!

I thought Ritche was on the new XTR groupset, that hub wasn't silent? Is that the DT swiss compatible version? I guess it isn't silent?

Great mountain biking on a real mountain bike.

Anybody else rewind at 0:55? I had to watch it like 10 times. Sick!
  • 3 1
That gimbal movement at 0:58-1:03 tho....
  • 1 2
Ya PB needs to step up their Gimbal Game. Footage comes out way better when you mount it to a chest protector roost guard.
  • 2 1
@ryane: This is a OneUp Components video.

 Elastic harness effect.. LOL
  • 2 0
That was rather disjointed, i am disappointed
  • 1 0
was he riding the sb6 or 5.5?
  • 2 0
Looked like the 6 from the head tube height.
  • 1 0
Richie is riding yeti sb6 now
  • 2 2
Has a gimbal in the photo > doesn't ride with one. Maybe it couldn't keep up with him.
  • 4 1
He rode with one, watch how the camera doesn't change angle as much as he does in the corners. The KARMA just couldn't keep up with him lol
  • 3 0
@huebs037: Looks like he's running a HERO with an EVO Gimbal. They just mounted it the wrong way. I love my EVO Gimbal!
  • 1 0
He just ruined all the YouTube MTBers
  • 1 0
Wonder what would happen if he did wc...
  • 4 1
Since he was US Junior dh champ before he started racing EWS, I figure he'd do pretty well...maybe his career will be like the reverse of Sam Hill...start in Enduro and end in DH
  • 1 0
Does he ride a dh bike at all?
  • 1 1
sorry but that was god awful footage from the gimbal. secure it properly - gopro chest mounts suck.
  • 2 0
 Perfect soundtrack
  • 1 0
 What tires is he running?
  • 1 0
 Porn !

 Hulk smash!

That’s an EWS stage? Looks like an XC trail.
  • 1 0
 Terrifying.
  • 5 6
Full POV run would’ve been lots better.
  • 6 3
gimbal, pov, no music = all you need.
  • 12 3
We tried that, but Richie’s riding is a bit too fast for our gimbal—so much of the footage is just hard to watch. Next time maybe we’ll stick one on his helmet too to see if that helps
  • 4 1
@PeterWojnar: or just learn how to use a gimbal? The strap is the problem here, not the karma.
  • 2 0
@PeterWojnar: You guys should look into the Stuntman harness instead of the GoPro...loads more stability for gimbals. Nice work!
  • 1 0
@PeterWojnar: I'd love to see that B-roll, someone riding too fast for a gimbal must look crazy. Or crappy. I don't know, I've never witnessed that before. In any case this video is rad AF.
  • 3 0
@LoganKM1982: yeah Im sure He's faster than most moto guys using gimbals, right? Or maybe they just know how to set it up...
  • 1 0
@PeterWojnar: Looks like you were using an EVO SS Gimbal and a Go Pro? If so, you gotta run the Gimbal with a roost guard is chest protector. That extra weight needs to be mounted to something with more support than a basic chesty. Hit up Peter or Jaymo at EVO!
  • 4 0
@ryane: we’re using a Feyiu WG2, which we had to mount upside down—Richie kept hitting it on his stem. We’ve ordered a stuntman harness for the future. In this case, we actually had to ask Richie to slow it down a bit (he said 70-80% effort) so he wouldn’t smash it on his bike so much—I’m sure setup had something to do with it, but Richie also moves around his bike more than the rest of us mortals. What works for someone riding fast, might still not work for Richie...
  • 2 0
@PeterWojnar: Gotcha. I had no idea until I bought one that I would need to beef up my chest mount system. But it makes sense with the extra weight. I'm sure the next time you post a vid up with the Gimbal it'll be better.

Richie is superhuman!
  • 1 0
@PeterWojnar: I have the same model. did you attach it to the mount using the back or the side thread. If you have it with the the light pointing up it makes a difference rather than the light pointing forward. The WG2 is also super sensitive to the balance point and motor strength setting. Unfortuantly even us mere mortals hit the gimbal off the stem too. Sorry if you know this shit already.
  • 1 0
@poah No sweat, fiddling with gimbals is an art and riding with one requires a different style and riding position than usual. It's tricky to strike the right balance when you want smooth, good-looking footage... but you also want to showcase someone's riding in a way that's true to itself. You can only ask a guy like Richie to change his riding position so much before it gets weird. Always improving, and looking forward to the next one already!
  • 1 0
@PeterWojnar: took me a while to set the WG2 up even with my mincing
