Downhill legend and all-time mountain bike personality, Rob Warner, takes us on a lap of the Crankworx Innsbruck Downhill presented by IXS. The course will play host to some of the best DH racers in the world and is already being touted as an amazing track with lots of fresh dirt.
And Rob Warner again provides the evidence that Red Bull have his nutsack in a jar on their side of the bed.
C'mon red bull, Rob Warner IS downhill mountain biking !
Unfortunately, the forced, annoying, overhyped commentary of that old guy, McCaul and the blonde woman is generally gawd-awful, making these Crankworx DH events unwatchable.
Claudio and Rob, whose knowledge of the UCI racers and courses make even less than stellar tracks far more enjoyable to watch.
A lot of the UCI tracks are over built. To a degree I will always feel real dh is taking off through the woods on a raw leaf raked path flowing down a hill. No huge berms, mostly natural jumps and creative trail planning to work with what's primarily already there. And there was little straight open sections. Where it's just grass let them make the high speed drifts.
I agree I ride both Dh and freeride. I like to jump big jumps and just jump them with out worrying going over the bars because of an ill placed rock or let go of the brakes and just fly through an track over roots and rocks knowing there isn't a 40ft gap I have to get over next turn
I really like Claudio's course previews. Having said that, I like Rob's more. This one did not disappoint. Rob, dont ever let them (whover "them" are) try to sanitize the way that you do these. They are classic gems.
I think course designers for the UCI overthink things too much and try to build a work of art instead of a great track. Just find a spot with a decent grade and some nice features, maybe some rocks here and there, throw some tape up and let nature take it's course.
By french he means Fabien Barel ... that guy is the embodiment of 'french line'. It's funny how of a bad reputation that guy has in France. For many amateurs in France he is the personification of the dodgy cunt.
The so-called french line is not that much of a big deal in France. So it'd be good to blame Barel or the other racers cutting lines, rather they are french or not.
@Blablablup123: he is a well known douche in France. He has f*cked a countless number of french amateurs over the years.
Many people on PB know Barel as a real competitive person with a fierce eye for detail on his ride. Which is the truth but ... not many have competed alongside or against him in France. Barel is the kind of guy that does everything he could to have an edge over his peers. Like doing illegal practice run during a national race in France, then crashing into an amateur guy and blaming the amateur who was a master. Only a guy like Barel will have the presumptuousness to complain at the marshals when he was doing something against the rule.
And what about his outfit. Always trying to go as tight as possible even if it was against the spirit of the rule. Or the way he cuts and has cut corners on many occasion. That's the other side of Barel. Why do you think many pro riders such as Peaty or Minnaar hate Barel?
@jaame: Which Arnold are you talking about? I guess that the problem many of us have with Barel is his boy-next-door attitude when a journalist or a camera is around him. But as soon as the camera is gone, the real Barel comes up. No wonder why french riders were not really keen on joining the Canyon DH team ...
Without all the commentary on what it takes to get a UCI venue...This is what it needs to be...The UCI is full of old idiots, Crankworx is obviously growing the brand to be more than a 1 slopestyle venue in Whistler. I would love to think that the 'official' format could move over to cworx and they would grow beyond 4 events. We need to lose this old BS and represent the sport for what it is...
Damnit Fabio, my excuse for being slow on my downhill bike is that as a trials rider I'm not used to hitting things fast. Thanks for revealing my lies.
While I enjoy Rob's commentary, am I the only one who got nauseated watching the constant flip-flop between gimbaled and non-gimbaled camera views? Stick with one or the other please. :-)
I don't get it though - To me this track looked a little boring. Like someone took some tape in a grass field and made a DH track. All these racers talking about how easy Leogang was - if it was so easy, why do generally the same riders always end up in the to 10?
To answer your question.
It's easy for everyone. So the top ten guys are still the top ten guys.
Racing on an easy track doesn't make you able to go from 70 to 10.
The top 10 guys find it just as easy if not easier than you and still beat you.

looks far more interesting than Leogang to me!
