The big Taipei bike show is stirring the pot and we're starting to see new products being released like wildfire. Next up is a new trail fork from RockShox, the 150 mm travel Sektor! Have a look inside to get the scoop directly from RockShox!

Read on...Source: RockShox

The sleek new trail suspension from RockShox can only be described as a modern trail fork that transcends all. With a diverse range of options and an amazing price to performance ratio, this trail blazer can hang with it's more refined counterpart, RockShock's very own Revelation.

Revelation set the bar for all front suspension that performs in the 150 mm travel arena. To continue the RockShox promise we hard to work hard to uphold performance and low weight in such an affordable fork. The "outside the box" approach in spring and weight development really tells the story about creativity and innovation in product development.

so its basically a cheap version of the revelation?
  • 2 0
 Do Revelations come in 150mm?
  • 3 1
Yes they do. I've seen a set in my LBS this week. They look impressive with they're lockout system that attaches to the Bar. Very simplistic and tidy.
  • 4 1
I kind of don't see the point in another forks. Revelations cover 150mm travel, and Pikes cover 140mm travel.
  • 4 0
cheaper.. some peeps cant afford pikes/revelations, so this is a good alternative
  • 1 0
and you cant get pikes in nz Frown
  • 2 1
that really sucks! how come? pikes are good forks but revelations are my favorite...
  • 1 0
the distributor just decided not to bring em in for 2010
  • 1 0
Mabye they're going to drop the Pike. Looks like a good fork Big Grin
  • 1 1
I hope they dont... tis a nice fork with a good reputation, would confuse me if they did :S
  • 1 0
I think this is a replacement for pike, it sure did deserve it's retirement... coil version is essentially a pike with new lowers. I agree that the 2010 lineup is a bit confusing, they really should clean it up a bit especially in a 130-150mm travel section. And why the hell are they changing the name, I mean, pike is a fu_kin legend!

After purchasing a Ragley Piglet frame from chainreactioncycles, I went to www.bikexcs.ro to have my brand new rock shox recon u-turn installed. When the mechanic cut the fork pipe, it was so short that it would not come out the other side of the bike. The shop offered to weld it back on and I started to laugh.Than they offered to exchange it for an used pike u-turn, once again I refused the offer. The shop finally gave me a sektor u-turn 110-150.A week after riding the bike to the office I took my Piglet to a light off road open muddy field.Half an hour later the fork just droped.I put the lock on the fork and barley managed to get to a gas station to wash the mud off and see what happened. The next day the fork was at the shop again. At the shop I was told sram does not allow 150mm forks on hardtails but they will overlook it, and that I will also have to pay for some parts because the fork was power washed. Also the shop gave me to use the same pike u-turn.They also told me,this first time, that the fork does not work.Since www.bikexcs.ro was not authorised by Sram to fix the sektor the fork had to be sent to www.dhsbike.ro .During the three weeks I had to wait for the fork to be repaired at the Sram authorised dealer,I purchased a bike for my daughter from the same shop, I sent them new customers that purchased a new bike from them. When I asked why it took such a long time, I was told that the Sram mechanics had a race to go to.Also I was told that I had to ride aggressively because the fork lock does not work and it might start working, if the lock does not work I should bring the fork back for repairs.

Well I'll have to take this for a ride, but it's adjustable travel and light weight (I know the Talas 32 still weighs 1/3 of a pound less... but I can handle that right?) may be the cure for my Fox pricing woes... I just don't have $1000 for a fork. I'll have to be witness to performance first though...
  • 2 1
So RS has a Pike, Revelation and a Lyrik which are all about in the same travel range.. instead of re-purposing the Pike as their cheap trail bike fork they are adding another fork to the lineup? Seems kinda dumb to me.. but at least it looks cool Wink
  • 3 3
they stopped making the pike in 08
  • 2 1
 no they didn't. 2010 Pike's are available.
  • 2 0
 really? my bad Redface
  • 1 0
Love the look, but wheres the price, i'm sorry but specs don't mean d1ck without a price! It could have every single feature under the sun, but if its £1500 i can't afford it!

I love the look, and the spec does seem like exactly what i need, but then so does the Revelation, but its too pricey for me, so how much is this fork?

And i do agree, the RS line up is already confusing enough....

Dart, Tora, Reba, Recon, SID, Revelation, Pike, Domain, Argyle, Lyrik, Totem, Boxxer and now Sektor?

Which one's for what?
  • 2 2
Sektor RL Coil 20mm/15mm Axle: $420
Sektor RL Solo Air QR 140mm: $455
Sektor RL Solo Air 20mm/15mm 150mm: $471
Sektor RL U-Turn Coil QR 100-140mm: $368
Sektor RL U-Turn Coil 20mm/15mm 110-150mm: $417

Also the full lineup is actually SID, Reba, Revelation, Recon, Recon Gold, Recon Silver, Sektor, Tora TK, Tora Trail, Tora XC, Dart, Domain, Argyle, Lyrik, Totem, Boxxer, Pike.
  • 2 0
Only 2 months after the article, ta!! ;-)

And cheers for proving my point even better, the RS line up is SO confusing!
  • 1 1
I didn't even see the article when it came out, hence the late post.
  • 2 1
in my honest opinion, a company like rockshox should just manufacter the same crowns and lowers for every uppers diameter platform. Now depending on the shock purpose or desired weight they could drill the crown eventualy process it bit more with forging. Producing so much of the same stuff would basicaly lower the production costs. yea the weight would go u slightly but...

and why does no one produce a single piece carbon fiber steerer+crown+uppers with coating. 1.125" - 1.5" allow for pretty smooth transition. all we getis F lowers which is kinda retarded considering he price raise and nearly no weight loss.
  • 1 0
So does this mean the Recon's days are numbered? Or is it a direct Pike replacement?

It looks nice, but it all depends on the cost.

Since the price of Pikes went through the roof (and Revs went seemingly into orbit) they've priced out a lot of people.
£400 or less for the solo airs and we're there. More than that and it raises the awkward question of why you wouldn't grab a second hand set of Pikes or Revs, send them to TF tuned and get a better set of forks for less money.

hey,I know this article is history more or less but I have a question... I'm buying a specialized pitch comp and it has RS sektor TK. So what exactly does Turn key mean? The article says TK= turnkey lockout but that doesn't say much really. I did some searching and they say that the TK version doesn't have lockout and even official specialized site is a bit confusing as on the general description of the pitch they say that the fork has only rebound, if you go to spec. it says sektor TK which supposedly has turnkey damping control and lockout?? So anyway enlight me Big Grin
  • 1 0
This fork is supposed to come in at a better price point than the Revelation. I've never been super impressed with 15mm thru axels, but at least RS isn't holding out any more...
  • 2 1
I was kinda hoping they were going to continue to hold out.. especially considering their maxle light setup is prob the same weight or close to other manufacturers 15mm setup..
  • 2 1
I agree actually. But now that other companys embraced 15mm hubs, I'm glad RS offers it. Namely, I really want this set of Easton Havens in the shop, but they don't go to 20mm. (Yet... They're supposed to have 20mm this summer.)
  • 1 0
I wonder when manufacturers (or IF, if I haven't heard about it) will offer, instead of a 20mm version AND a 15mm version, a fork with 20mm dropouts but with a through-axle that can do both 20mm and 15mm or an option to buy whichever through axle you want.

...sorta like the Hope Pro II of forks.
  • 1 0
it doesn't sound so hard to make if you think about it, just an adapter axle from 20 mm to 15mm.
  • 1 0
Main problem with that is 15mm hubs have 100mm spacing and 20mm hubs use 110. You could probably use a spacer, but running a 15mm axel in a fork with wider spacing would negate some of the stiffness that a thru axel is supposed to provide in the first place.
  • 1 0
Uncle Cliffy, I'm sure you know what the conversion plugs for a Hope Pro II look like - tubes with flanges. I was thinking a CNC'ed tube with an OD of 20mm, and ID of 15mm, and a flange of 5mm. With the flanged tube it should be no less a compromise in stiffness than hub adapter plugs give (which surely are not as stiff as a big fat dedicated 20mm hub that is not designed ).

The bigger or more expensive problem (which I didn't thinkabout until you reminded me of hub spacing) is that you need a longer through-axle. I just wonder if it is more expensive to produce two different axles as it is to make two crowns and two lowers - I'm thinking axle is cheaper. But with my converter axle, you could run any brand 20mm fork you wanted.

I bet Problem Solvers have the CNC machines warming up as we speak!
  • 1 0
all those widths, standards problems, why not just make an 20mm axle with thinner walls as we all know oversized tubes are stiffer and stronger and can be made thinner, oh wait they already did - maxle light! what's the point of creating all this 15mm confusion lol
  • 1 0
they should make a 17.45246 just to piss people off. "This fork is for the people that don't want to step it up to a heavy 20mm axle. And for people that think 9mm is too flexy, and for those folks who think 15mm is just not a big enough step up from this." This is starting to get to be a rediculous amount of options.
  • 1 0
If they're a cheaper price point than the revs i can see the point in them but i was proper confused reading the spiel "wait isn't this just like the revelation? why don't they offer all these variations on the revelation?"
  • 3 0
why complain about new product being added? even redundant stuff?

more options, lower prices.

this new sektor is pretty much a more affordable version of a revelation. at least thats what i got from the article. maybe you should read it before asking questions
  • 4 2
i did smart ass. the article is like 3 paragraphs long. maybe you should think before you give a dumb ass answer to an honest question. If you are right about the affordable part... thankyou. But is says nothing about the price except for it has a good price to weight ratio. But the way they said it, it was obviously an opinion. And it said the revelation is more refined, which is like saying, this doesnt have as much work put into it because it is a new fork. So there is no offered information. Which is why i am asking the question, what is the point of this fork? I was looking for an answer from a rockshox rep, or somebody of that sort that has already seen the new stuff and has a better answer. If you are one, still, u should try not to be such a douche.
And if this is really a cheaper version of a revelation, SICK! maybe this could be the answer for all of the people that think domains are too much fork for them. I am excited if it really is a lower end lower price, reasonable performance fork. I think its about time a company decides to go with the customer, to improve the industry, not against the customer to take advantage of the rediculous monopoly that all companies have over us consumers. Its like the oil crisis, and it is not fair. Thats right mtn bike industry f*ck you.

RANT OVER!
(Sorry some1 jacked my skis today, this is a good place to vent.)
  • 1 0
isn't funny how there is a rockshox article, and all the comments are about how much people hate marzocchi's? I think both forks have there ups and downs...
  • 1 1
what's really funny is when you got someone hating on marzocchi, but yet you look in their albums and marzocchi is all they ride! lol
  • 1 0
 haha, ya really!
  • 1 1
 wow VT wintips, calm down.

"With a diverse range of options and an amazing price to performance ratio, this trail blazer can hang with it's more refined counterpart, RockShock's very own Revelation."

this statement makes it pretty obvious its a cheaper version of the revelation, no need to PMS. well its pinkbike, what can i expect?

i am delightedly awaiting your response, since i know it will be funny to read
  • 1 0
VTwintips, great reply, I actually agree alot with that...
  • 1 0
I somehow expected you to leave a comment with that exact quote in it. The amazing price to performance ratio is an opinion. WE WANT NUMBERS!! U just got me mad cuz u said "maybe you should read it before asking questions".
What I am trying to say is this needs to be substantially cheaper. Like these kids said,
"So RS has a Pike, Revelation and a Lyrik which are all about in the same travel range.. instead of re-purposing the Pike as their cheap trail bike fork they are adding another fork to the lineup? Seems kinda dumb to me.. but at least it looks cool Wink"
and... "Love the look, but wheres the price, i'm sorry but specs don't mean d1ck without a price!

Which one's for what?"
there are others but i am done quoting.
Oh, so i found my skis. Somebody took them overnight, (it could have somebody that wanted to help me or something,) but they put them back into a place that i looked! Not the place where i put them however, but still, why would they take them and then give them back, WTF?? It was the weirdest, luckiest shit thats ever happened to me i think.
  • 2 0
i'm still cracking up at the dude with the 55s on the Faith...and the ZOcchi sticker on a DHX....LOL
  • 1 1
point taken. keep in mind that RS is a company and is always trying to make more money, just like all the other ones. its unnecesary to add a new fork, but hey what can we do? the trendwhores will be all over this one
  • 1 0
Indeed. I will recommend this to my friend, if it is indeed a cheaper price, it would be the perfect amount of travel for him. He has a Transition Vagrant.
  • 1 0
I am changing my current Rev 07 U-Turn Air for the Sektor U-Turn 20mm version. Will post a review soon about its performance (hopefully a video)
  • 1 0
hey just bought a bike with the sektor tk's my first pair of coil forks.. does anyone know how I can stiffen them up a bit... cheers

The MSRP would sway my decision one way or the other. I've been looking out for a budget AM fork for a while, so this may fit the bill.
