First Look: Ryders Introduces antiFOG Eyewear Collection

Ryders antiFOG

Regardless of price, style, fit, or materials, all performance eyewear has one thing in common—they’ll fog up. This is especially true in a place like Vancouver’s North Shore, where it’s often cool and wet. A couple of years ago, Ryders Eyewear—a North Vancouver company—started developing a lens that wouldn’t be so vulnerable to fog. The motivation was simple: they wanted bike glasses they could wear for the whole ride, eliminating the annoying need to find a place for your eyewear as you grind up the mountain. The Ryders antiFOG collection addresses this problem, offering eye protection you can actually leave on your face.

Design & Features

Ryders antiFOG Technology

Ryders antiFOG isn’t a simple lens coating—it’s a permanent layer that’s embedded onto the lens. Unlike the anti-fog coatings that are common in goggles, Ryders antiFOG is scratch resistant and washable, so you can clean them without worrying about damaging the anti-fog properties of the lens. Before you go breathing all over the lens to test it out, note that only the inside of the lens features Ryders antiFOG. Initially, Ryders applied their antiFOG treatment to the entire lens—after months of testing, it was decided the lens would perform better with antiFOG on the back, and a hydrophobic treatment on the front of the lens. The dual nature of this lens sets it apart from everything else in the world of cycling eyewear. The front of the lens works to repel the spatter coming off your tire and the inside will remain fog-free. This made the development process of the lens far more complicated, the result is worth it.

• Permanent, washable anti-fog layer embedded onto back of lens
• Front of lens features hydrophobic technology to repel water
• Ryders antiFOG does the opposite—it absorbs moisture, dispersing it into the lens so fog doesn’t form
• Regular washing of lenses will ensure antiFOG is functioning at full capacity

Lens Options

Each style within the Ryders antiFOG collection features shatterproof, optically correct lenses made from polycarbonate (the same material used in astronaut helmets and riot shields). Ryders offers antiFOG in 2 lens categories: Photochromic and Traction Polarized. The photochromic lenses will adapt to light conditions as they change. For riding the Shore, Ryders recommends the yellow photochromic, as the tint will increase contrast—this definitely comes in handy in the thick forests of BC. Also, Ryders is introducing their Traction Polarized lens within the antiFOG collection. This lens will actually highlight the difference between surface textures, ideal for riding on the road.

• Lenses are polycarbonate - shatterproof and optically correct
• Available in Photochromic and Traction Polarized
• Photochromic lenses will adapt to light conditions, changing tint accordingly
• Traction Polarized highlights the difference between surface textures

Frame Material

The frames are TR90, an ultra-durable and flexible thermoplastic. Also, each pair in the antiFOG collection comes with anti-slip nose pads that actually become stickier as they get wet, making sure your eyewear stays in place. Ryders is also introducing antiFOG lenses within their foamback collection. These goggle/sunglass hybrids will help keep debris from getting in your eyes. The inclusion of antiFOG will make them a much more wearable option for your ride, as foambacks are particularly vulnerable to fog.

• TR90 frames—ultra-durable and flexible
• Anti-slip nose pads to keep glasses in place
• Available with foam gaskets, to help keep trail debris out of your eyes

Bought a pair of their photochromatic Calibers. After trying about 4 other pairs of glasses including Tifosi, Smith, Anon, and others, the Ryders were by FAR the best frame and lens combo I have ever used. And cheaper. The light grey photochromatic lens gets nearly clear for riding in dark forest and goes nearly black out in the sun. The nose pads are by far the best when sweating too. And these look even better.

Sorry, but there isn't a lens in existence that I can't fog up.

I feel ya. My big ole heatie head even fogs glasses I'm not wearing.

Any one fancy shipping some across to the UK for us blind-as-fudge-most-of-the-goddam-year MTB'ers? =D

Have a heart.... Our winter is 366 days long here... Frown

@ SGTMASON I've several pairs of Ryders, all purchased from a ski shop in the Xscape shopping centre in Castleford, Yorkshire. I can't remember the name of the the shop but that's your starter for ten in the UK.

Went to Bedgebury (Wouldn't recommend it) here in the UK on a wet cool day. Never been before, new trails bit sandy too, couldn't see sh!t with my clear lens glasses on as they fogged up. But soon as I took them off I'd get sand in my eyes.

Put a new spin on riding a trial "blind" that did.
I'll definitely try these out!

Ryders is by far the coolest and funniest company in the industry, and they make some of the best gear out there! No one else can match their Caliber of customer service and quality. Their frames have different sizes for the best fit and comfort, and actually stay on your Face! They're making great Stride(r)s with this new anti-fog technology! I haven't been able to fog up the Shore goggles, even in the rainiest conditions.

These guys must have given away 10,000 pairs of their glasses at races over the years. Props to this company for supporting cycling for such a long time, and making a great product.

Anyone else feel the need for just a clear lens? I find any colour at all makes things overly dark when you're trying to get in one last dusk lap and all the photochromatic options have at least some degree of tint

Absolutely an amazing product! Seriously! I went on their website recently and found this cool topic with other AntiFOG glasses designs: www.ryderseyewear.com/antifog-ultimate-winter-lens I already have three different types of glasses from them and will continue to get more! Great Job!

Love their product! I think they're the best company now that makes AntiFOG & Polarized glasses for bikers. I recently visited their website & found pretty cool article on foggy lenses, bought a pair from them and no issues, check out the article, their designs & overall experience is simply amazing! www.ryderseyewear.com/avoid-foggy-lenses

Sounds awesome. Do Ryders make glasses that have a carrier for a prescription lenses? If they do, I couldn't find the info on their site.
  • 1 0
 Not yet..... I'm patiently waiting!
  • 2 1
What trail is that at the bottom? Wow - looks awesome.

If they are truly anti-fog, I'm sure they'll sell a few. My wife can be the test pilot - she's fogged every lense imagineable.

 Why, is she hot?

hahahah. I knew there'd be a smart ass comment. Nice one!

you still haven`t answered the question......

You should know better than to mention your wife on pinkbike!

I wonder is there a returns policy. They fog up on my first ride can I get my money back. Id even go as far as to say if they don't fog up on my first ride ill give them twice the money.
  • 1 0
 I'll vote for that
  • 5 3
Yes!!! While the price ain't cheap, if this means I can see on rides like yesterday, I'll pay for quality. I only use Ryders googles. I'll be grabbing a pair of glasses ASAP.
  • 4 1
I was gonna say the price seems on point considering a pair of Spy's or oakleys is about the same
  • 2 0
I still wouldn't pay that much, but they are competitively priced for sure. I really like the look of them as well
  • 6 2
Eye can really see the benefit in these.
  • 5 2
the price is a bit up there, maybe if a buddy lense me a pair and they really work, I'll pony up the cash.
  • 1 0
The difference is clear to me.
  • 2 0
Sounds awesome! I hope they work well. I have to put my glasses away on the climbs to keep them from fogging. I'd love to not think about that and just keep riding.
  • 1 0
I've tried the fanciest anti-fog gear out there for MTB, MX and Snow… everything fogs, even a stupid heated snowmobile lens.

But you know what doesn't fog? My 25yo diving lenses, and all i do is spit in them.

@RydersEyewear Any plan to make these lenses available on a smaller frame to fit women (or anyone with a smaller face for that matter).
  • 4 0
The Trio is a small frame. The Strider is a medium-small. Check out the full lineup at www.ryderseyewear.com/antifog
  • 1 0
 Sweet, thanks!
  • 1 0
@RydersEyewear where's the best place to order your products from online?
  • 1 0
@RydersEyewear Will you be offering more frame/lens combos with the new anti-fog lens? These look like the glasses I've been waiting for, but would want the light-grey photochromatic anti-fog lens (from the Strider) in the Thorn or Face frame.
  • 2 0
@Hwulex for now, we only have the frame/lens combos listed above. But we are expanding the antiFOG line later this year. Stay tuned...
  • 1 0
They forgot to mention that for best results you need to purchase enduro-specific moose spit to keep them from fogging up in temps under 5 degrees C.
  • 1 0
Picked up pair of riders with interchangeable lenses(yellow, clear and grey) damn nice product for a reasonable price Under $100.

 I think it's a bitch

I've had photochromic ryders for 2 seasons now. They are great and would buy again from them
  • 1 0
Safety glasses work fine for me. They might not look as good but they do the job and only cost a few bucks!
  • 1 0
Same here, but they do fog up. I hate lenses because they make it slightly more difficult to see and even dirt bike riding I ride sans googles. I am curious though if these work as good as they say. Just not $100 curious.
  • 3 0
 I'm sold.
  • 3 0
 I love you Ryders
  • 1 0
Looks to me like the peripheral vision would be blocked by those massive (but stylish) arms.
  • 1 0
The lens is actually large enough that it wraps and sets the wide temple back, allowing for a large amount of peripheral vision.
  • 1 0
Where can I get them in Europe? These look like the s**t. Been looking for something like these.
  • 1 0
I fell on my face while I was wearing Ryders sunglasses and they ruined my life!
  • 2 1
I remember when a good pair of Ryders were $40
  • 3 0
We still have a bunch of models for $40-$50. But they won't be photochromic and they won't have antiFOG.
  • 1 0
Went straight to the ad. Absolutely perfect!
  • 1 0
@RydersEyewear Any chance I can buy one in Central Europe?
  • 2 0
 But will it blend?
  • 1 0
So where can get these in europe?
  • 1 0
And that pic mean???????? Uuuuuhhhh ahhhhhhhhhj LOL jajajajjajaja
