I am not completely against e bikes for specific rider groups but watching Sam fighting this heavy beast on a DH track really made me sad.
  • + 6
Total e-disgrace. I'm sorry for Sam, but he lost it completely with that one.
  • + 7
And, how on Earth did he get out of breath riding an e-bike ?!?
  • + 18
Looked like the bike was chosing the lines.
  • + 19
It think that was due to the fact that the track is fking rough, not the ebike. You got to remember he didn't grow up riding rocks and that he isn't particularly good at riding tech.
  • + 5
@XC-SCRUB: Which means the bike was chosing the lines. Lol
  • + 5
@Boardlife69: yeh but not becuase its an ebike......Lol
  • + 6
Couldn’t really call it a dh track , looks like a scene from an apocalyptic movie !
  • + 6
@Matt115lamb: it really is. I rode there last year and it will be fun seeing how the pros fly there. It's a unique track and people should bitch less about it and go see it in person. The jumps are massive and choosing the right line will be key here.

This track does nothing for me. Just as it starts to look interesting in the trees it's over in a flash and then winding down some back streets (without any stairsets to spice things up). This is what the World will see when they say 'Watch the WC DH, it's awesome'. I'll still watch it as I'm interested who will win, but then I'll also watch them ride a velodrome for the same reason.
  • + 3
I think that the idea to add some urban stuff to DH could be very nice. The problem with this specific track is that those asphalt parts are completely flat. But I would be exited to see some of stuff like that, going from off-road to mountain village streets. Come on, in the end of the day we all like to huck some stairs, don't we?
  • + 1
@eugen-fried: go check on youtube the race they held in Bilbao recently
  • + 5
@eugen-fried: We can only hope that a few jumps and wall rides are thrown into that boring AF street section.
  • + 1
 @Dominant88: they will, don't worry.
  • + 15
What the f*ck is a UCI World Cup track doing ending up in the back streets of a town ... what’s up you ran out of room ? ...or is it a money thing ....next you will be building a new housing estate at the bottom of Fort Bill ...shame on you
  • + 7
I Would buy a house if it was a new housing estate at the bottom of Fort Bill, good side project get the planning permision for that, Any one else want interested?
  • + 15
The rocky section looks proper dangerous if anyone has a serious fall, and the remaining third of the course is a road of one kind or another. It neither looks fun to ride for a normal guy,or worthy of a world cup racer. The UCI really must not give a sh1t about the branding of DH.
  • + 12
It'll show who's done the most training over the winter. It is tarmac at the end but is it really so different to the ending of the Cairns track?
  • + 12
 E-bike comments in 3...2...1.....Fully Charged.
  • + 2
 insane?
  • + 6
 Zaps fired!
  • + 7
I'll reserve my comments about the track when the official RedBull Preview comes out with CLAUDIO!! Where's CLAUDIO!!??

Didn't know we were progressing the DH courses from wide open dirt roads (bad enough) to now concrete?!?! Keep your Taxaco-esque crap for that style of venue. Start to finish for DH should be on DIRT!!
  • + 9
Regardless of the bike, the track looks dope. Great to see a natural, challenging track
  • + 12
 Until the road section
  • + 3
@sewer-rat: as said before it will end before the road section. I know this track will get hate, but its more of a DH track than Leogang. Those rocks at speed are a lot more challenging than a high speed flow trail. It could be steeper, but I'm sure its a proper fight to stay on line and on your bike. I love trails like that. #Downvoteaway
  • + 2
 @sewer-rat: exactly what I thought
  • + 2
A lot of moaning about the dockside finish/asphalt.. the Spec Gravity team and others have mentioned this is a 2minute track. That would finish at the end of the dirt and not run into the residential area. People are getting ahead of themselves I think. As fun as this preview was, I suspect Sam is wrong here.
  • + 1
Previous races finished after the tarmac section
  • + 1
@ORTOGONAL555: that may be, but for all anybody knows at this point the UCI haven’t stated the course length or configuration. I’d be more inclined to believe the words of the current 2 world champs who have done pre season testing on the track on this one. I’d be surprised if they didn’t know the likelihood of it being a tarmac finish.

Apart from these rules, I believe everything else is up to the people that approved the event .

Course

4.3.004 The course for a downhill must follow a descending route.

4.3.005 The course comprises varied terrain sections: narrow and broad tracks, woodland roads
and paths, field paths and rocky tracks. There normally are a mixture of fast and technical
sections. The emphasis of the course is to test the riders' technical skills and their
physical ability.

4.3.006 The length of the course and the duration of the event are determined as follows:
Maximum
Course length 3500 m
Duration of the event 5 minutes

UCI CYCLING REGULATIONS
E0118 MOUNTAIN BIKE
World championships, world cup, continental championships, class 1 events Class 2 events Class 3 events
Minimum Duration of the event: 2 minutes

4.3.010 The finish area must be at least 6 meters wide.
There must be a braking area of minimum 35-50 m after the finish line with adequate
protection and completely cordoned off from the public. The riders exit must be designed
in that way that the speed is kept to a minimum.
This area must be free of obstacles.

@Gruta: What about the rule that no concrete is allowed on the track?
The funny thing is, I can't find it anymore on the list of the rules.
When we organized the UCI event last years the commissioner was pretty clear that if we finish on an asphalt road, ir use a small part of one to connect two parts of the trail or put some beton to stabilize the stones they will not sign the track.
  • + 1
@aceto: I see your point, then again we have a finish area like the one in Leogang ( concrete ), and Lenzerheide ( asphalt road crossing ). It`s up to the commissioner in charge like you said. The good thing is it won`t be long now till we find out !
  • + 3
@Gruta: In Leogang the asphalt is after the finish line and they had to change a section because were using concrete to stabilize rocks.
I think they should leave the asphalt for the urban DH and not mix it with the normal one.
  • + 3
I like the idea of combining venue with urbanized area. This will make sport more accessible to public. Just need to find a little more exciting spot - my vote goes to Finale Ligure!
  • + 5
For everyone struggling with the pronunciation of the place, š=sh and the J is silent.
  • + 2
 Thanks.

so is it...

Loh-sh-in ?

or

Low-sh-in?
  • + 13
As in, Can you rub some Loshin on my back?
  • + 4
@G-A-R-Y: Both are already much better than Sam's pronunciation, but "Loh-sh-in" is more accurate. Its always hard translating pronunciations to different languages which are so inherently different...
You can also listen to translator
  • + 2
 @winko: Thanks again.
  • + 2
@winko: As a dirty foreigner I'm always going to pronounce it Lozenge. Wink
  • + 3
thanks for this...been cringing every time Sam pronounced it wrong Big Grin
  • + 0
 @Boardlife69:

It Puts the Loshin on its skin or els it getts the hose again.
  • + 5
 Winning bike:

29" DH?
27.5 Enduro?

or given that last Paris Roubaix section, a 700c CX bike?
  • + 4
Looks pedally. About a quarter of the course seems to be tarmac path? Really?
  • + 1
I can see why you would want the race to end next to the sea. But with the city part being so untechnical the race will heavily be decided by fitness i guess.
  • + 3
@Bizepskanone: It'll be decided on who can lock their shock out and who cant.
  • + 3
The whole course It's less pedally than that shit motorway in Fort William or final part at Crains, that is ok but something new and fresh on wc circut is bad... I'm confused!
  • + 5
Is Your E bike is too heavy to jump? Wink
  • + 4
more stable in the air !! Wink
  • + 4
Only nearly hits 2 pedestrians. Disappointed,he usually manages to piss a whole load off.
  • + 1
I see how the UCI is thinking, all those pedestrians and the biker on the tarmac will make PLENTY of potholes on the road section of the track, the new kind of Rockgarden feature, now that is 21st Century trail building for you, clever, very clever UCI. oh dear
  • + 1
I too will watch it cos it's always great to see the best riders riding anything but imho it isnt what a WC DH run should be. Sam is an awesome rider but saying 'CRAZY !!, this is INSANE !!!' constantly doesnt make it a good track
  • + 3
The you tube world only consists of two sentences; ''this is *insane*'' and ''that's *INSANE*'', then any two words must have *INSANE* between them
  • + 5
 What on earth...
  • + 3
This is boner-killer material for WC hype levels. Totally flaccid after watching this.
  • + 2
FYI the name is pronounced Low Shin, pronounced together. For those who might use it in conversation and be a snob about it Smile
  • + 1
Looking to this track I think most of us can organise a wc race in our cities/villages...... pls uci just look at ews organisers and learn something !!
  • + 3
Those rocks wont forgive your mistakes on that section of track.whew
  • + 1
Track doesn't look up to standard for a WC dh, not steep and way to short even with the crappy urban concrete pedal at the end.
  • + 1
Sam is now on staff? Cool! Back to back ebike vs non. The way Gee once beat 500cc enduro at Fort Bill it wouldn't surprise me if non e was faster Doubt it though.
  • + 3
Well the off road bit looks pretty good
  • + 2
I guess there is some technically demanding stuff here but Downhill it ain't!!
  • + 2
Well I guess that rocky roads is something UCI is still looking for the promotion of our sport.
  • + 1
Is this a pisstake? This can't be the actual DH race track, surely? Looks flat, not steep and half of it is on a tarmac road? I'm not even going into the eBike shite...
  • + 8
To be fair, helmet cam footage normally makes tracks look flatter.

I'm also hoping that in certain lighting it makes 25% of the trail look like tarmac.
  • + 2
Spectacular track’ Great to see a non-ski-centre venue
  • + 3
 Fresh cut man
  • + 1
This is the first world cup where riders will be able to stop for a cappuccino mid race....
  • + 2
Does the UCI have motorbike races now?
  • + 1
Does Sam's e-bike also have bluetooth?
If it has then I fully understand him.
  • + 2
His Xduro AllMtn 10.0 does, but not the one he's riding there, the Xduro Dwnhll 10.0. How's that relevant, though?
  • - 2
@nhp890: blueTOOTH. and now look at Sam's smile again.
  • + 2
Shite track struggle to see how this is going to with the WC riders
  • + 1
So much effort on an E-Bike. Going downhill. This is BAD.
  • + 1
 April fools yet...no, wait...WTF???
  • + 0
It doesn't look any steep it seems they will be pedaling all the way down... ebikes are justified on this track... Smile
  • + 2
The finish should be in the harbour! especially for the e-bike, salt water would end its sad existence quick!
  • + 0
And Fort William si so steep then for example?
  • + 1
@escy44: Like this idea. One massive jump into the water with points for the best jump -Spectators will love it!
  • + 1
@Prof: Hahaha, great plan! save the best till last!
  • - 2
So the track is less steep than any 2 years old balance bike track and half of it is on concrete. Might not even tune on RedBull TV for this one.
  • + 0
 Good for you!
  • + 0
No wonder he's on an Ebike.....that track looks flat.
  • - 2
watch the water there at the finish, electricity + H20, you're gonna have a bad time
  • + 2
You can wash them with pressure washers and they have an ISO submergence rating.
  • - 1
 Thïs track sucks
  • + 2
And you said that based on the gopro video, first ride it then talk shit!
  • + 1
@sunki: Top half looks good enough but all that street riding is a bit disappointing , I would be more than happy to have this track on my doorstep but is it really WC standard ?
  • - 1
 What a pile of wank
  • - 1
 looks fucking shit
