Sea Otter - Formula Disc Brakes

May 6, 2009
by Tyler Maine
Formula Brakes have been pumping out top quality stoppers for years now. At this year's Sea Otter Classic, Chris Costello took the time to walk us through the line up and tell us about changes to the program.

Check out the video and pics inside:Formula Brakes is stoked to bring out the all new R1 brake. It's their lightest offering to date at 270 grams. Forged caliper and master cylinders keep it light, but the braking power surpasses its XC orientation. Check out this new brake as Chris explains all the details in the video:

If the guy knew what he was doing at Brembo, why is he now with Formula? Not saying they're bad brakes, just seems kind of weird. Just because he worked at Brembo doesn't mean he's Jesus.

To design brakes for Formula and taking the technology from the Moto world is alway's a strong point at Formula. It's already on The One brake

I'm not going to lie so from my simple lever squishy test evaluation, my ultimate's felt a lot more fluid and not gross feeling... but who knows, maybe I'm just super biased

The only complaint I have about my ORO K24 is that the lever sits miles away from the bar.

Eh? 174: "You have three different pad options - sintered...and organic with alloy backed pads" - so what's the third?

Very good brakes, nice modulation, low maintenance. Easy to service, similar to avids.

You and I must be servicing much different formula's.

Hmmm maybe. Mine are 3-4 years old. Shimano - easy, Hayes - messy.

Ride "The One's" , you will see how extra pistons are not required. They're sick light and they work awesome.

 what andy9 said - my Ones are tremendulous - I'm running 8"F and 7"R but then, I'm a big guy :-)

lots of people run 6" disks in the rear on their dh bikes.. im sure a bb7 whould give you all the power you need in the rear.. the front is what gives you stopping power.

I don't use a whole heap of front brake. Ever.
