After seven years living in the world's best playground, Whistler is where Tom McCarthy calls home. Like almost everyone in Whistler, he lives for the riding, year-round fun and the lifestyle that comes with calling such a place home. However, there's so much more to Whistler than bikes. Tom is just as keen on fly fishing as he is riding, so I grabbed my camera kit and joined him for an evening of fishing at Lost Lake before heading into the bike park the next day.

Grouse. I spent six days riding in whistler last summer and my riding progressed ten fold, the only trouble is when you get back home to your local trails everything seems so blah. The post whistler blues can destroya man!

Tell me about it.... What's worse is the Government still thinks MTB means Lycra and a circular track around a mountain rather than anything coming down it.

Most locals, for sure can ride well. You get a mixture of awesome riders and tourists that haven't ridden a DH bike before or even parents following their kids down. I lived there for a while and this year will be my fourth summer riding in Whistler. The riding progression is so steep there. Spend a month there riding trails and I can assure you, your riding will be on a whole new level. This is assuming you come from an area where you have to shuttle and only get to ride a couple times a month.

Yeah the locals make you feel like you suck sometimes. But even after a few days you see so much progression. Also, what DamianNZ said... parents following kids. But the kids are so dam fast it's scary, hitting pro lines even lol. I've seen parents not able to keep up with the kids, not even close. Whistler is fun!
