PRESS RELEASE: Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition (VVCC) Board

The Western Gateway trail system is a 100% hand built, community funded, ~29 mile trail system with a three year construction effort on National Forest land just west of the Sedona city limits.

Ground broke on November 8, 2018 when a series of community volunteer workdays began on re-routing the existing Girdner Trail out of the Dry Creek floodplain. These workdays will continue on the system through late April 2019 as our limited trail work season runs from November to April due to the excessive heat and summer monsoons.

Work continued even during the Federal government shutdown when two four person youth crews from the American Conservation Experience (ACE) began eight weeks of construction effort in January funded by a matching award grant by the National Forest Foundation. Mountain bikers from 18 states helped raise the grant's match requirement and convince the Forest Service to classify Western Gateway construction as mission essential due to our short trail work season.

The Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition (VVCC) is now raising funds to hire two eight-person ACE crews to continue construction for eight weeks during our 2019-2020 trail work season. Like this year, these ACE crews will augment the community volunteer efforts. The VVCC has partnered with the Sedona Red Rock Trail Fund and generous sponsors to offer another chance for you to win prizes collectively valued at almost $21,000.

A Liv Pique SX and Giant Trance 29” bike ready for a new home along with a Shimano XTR M9100 groupset, Carbon 29” Whiskey wheel set, Marzocchi Bomber suspension forks (one each 27.5” and 29”), Hollywood Racks HR1400 hitch rack, Kali Protective helmets, Shredly clothing, along with local trips, accommodations and tours. There’s also a high-end Dell laptop, Rockford-Fosgate complete 300W auto sound system and non-mountain bike themed trips, accommodations and tours available. A complete prize list and contest rules can be found by clicking here. Winners will be announced at the Sedona MTB Festival in early March. Please note that Giant requires that winners must be present at the drawing to claim the Liv Pique SX and Gian Trance 29" bikes. You don't have to be present to win any of the other prize offerings.
