Silver Star Newest Ride Centre Sanctioned By IMBA

Freshly back from the IMBA World Summit held in Steamboat Springs Colorado, Silver Star Bike Park is immensely excited to share with everyone that the bike park has been awarded Silver Ride Centre Status by IMBA. The IMBA Ride Center® designation represents IMBA’s Model Trail recognition for large-scale mountain bike facilities that offer something for every rider. IMBA recommends you bring your full arsenal of bikes to visit any Ride Centre location. From back-country adventures to shuttle-served gravity trails, and from expert-only to family-friendly, you’ll encounter the best the sport has to offer.

We at Silver Star are unbelievably excited to receive this award from IMBA. To be recognized internationally for the work that we have put into our bike park over the years is especially satisfying for our hardworking trail crew that have built the network from the ground up. Cam Sorensen, our dedicated bike park director, traveled to Steamboat to accept the award on Silver Star’s behalf this week and take in the great summit sessions, group rides and discussion surrounding the bike industry.

“This award embodies everything we've set out to do with our park in terms of offering trails for every level of rider,” comments Cam Sorensen. “We have trails for experts who wants to rip big jumps on Pro Star all the way down to Challenger, a perfect start for the first-time rider. The goal was to build a park where everyone can enjoy both DH and XC, no matter how long they've been riding and you can progress from beginner trails up to intermediate and advanced."


IMBA describes the Ride Centres status as the "riding destinations that should go on everyone’s short-list" for places to bike. These are the trails worth traveling to; the best places to introduce someone to the sport we all love and are the facilities builders and advocates should look to for inspiration. They vary from gorgeous adventures in the back-country to innovative trail systems located a midst population centers. Silver Star is one of two locations in Canada to receive Ride Centre status and the only silver level north of the border.

"We are also one of only a few bike parks to have been bestowed with the status and we are incredibly proud of that," said Sorensen.

As far as building and expansion, it has been another busy one as always at Silver Star Bike Park this summer. So far Trail Crew has added over 10 kilometers to the XC network. It opened Meadow trail - a new green - Corkscrew and Chakra - new blue trails - and Grizzly Adams - a new black XC trail. Trail Crew have also broken two km into the build for Beowulf, the epic ride that will be close to 30 km when it’s finished. On the DH side of things, Trail Crew has opened up the upper section of Jedi Mind Trick, which is roughly two kilometers of incredibly fun new flow to match what they opened last summer lower down the mountain. This trail is a must ride when you visit! Trail Crew has also rebuilt sections of Super Star and Shazam this summer.


Silver Star would like to thank IMBA for sanctioning the park and also for hosting a great summit this past week. The bike park is open full time until September 1, and then have two bonus weekends on September 6/7 and 13/14 so make sure you come visit before the 2014 season is over.
