Silveroxx 2008 - Recap

This Silveroxx Festival was by far the best ever, I know this because I had the privilege of participating in every event and got to interact and talk to the majority of entrants. We had plenty of people entered in all three events and everything rolled along nice and smooth.Jam Session (Sat)

This event is awesome, with riders able to take as many timed runs as they want, with only their fastest time being counted. Many riders commented that it didn't feel like a race exactly, because it was so relaxed, and they could give it as many tries as they wanted. Spectators also loved this event because of the fact that a rider was being started every 30seconds for over 3 hours, and the course was short enough to hike to the most exciting areas.

Super D (Sat afternoon)

This event is more fun than anything else we do, but had a fairly small turnout because most people were saving their energy for Sunday's enduro race. People are having so much fun racing alongside all of their friends, this is the only event I've ever done where people are cheering you on as you pass them. Many of the racers were hugging people they had only met 20 minutes earlier on the start line. I think that the pictures sum it up pretty well.

Party (Saturday Night)

Some started out with live music by 2stones throw and a bbq, while others went and floated in the water park and did some surfing. Nearly everybody came together to watch the premier of the newest installment of Northwest Dirt Culture, Endub Empire. Greg Tubbs was nice enough to premier his new movie by projector on the side of one of the buildings in the village, which fit perfect because of the local riders and section focusing on Silveroxx 07. After that it was time to go to bed or in some peoples case party until the sun came up.

Enduro DH (Sunday)

This is what everyone is here for, our signature event, and was the first year we have had it USAC sanctioned. Ethan Mutloli smoked the competition being the only rider to beat the thirteen minute mark. We had an excellent turn out for this event with close to 100 riders. The course had a bit of everything from tight trees, and berms to high speed doubles, and hip jumps. We had an excellent turn out for this event with close to 100 riders.

Awards (Sunday)

So after two days of biking and hanging out with friends (partying) it was time to hand out Awards, Cash, Shwag, and toss some twizzlers. Awards took some time with 3 different events and so many categories, but I think everyone was thankful for the rest time. The fastest 3 pro/semipro men and 2 pro/semi pro women were given Happy Gilmore style checks for their efforts, the fastest pro/semi pro man and woman got hooked up with some sweet Obtainium Performance Titanium Springs, and the ten fastest SuperD entries were able to pick out some killer Titec components and clothing. It was great to see so many friends and to meet so many new people.

Shwag(about 7 grand worth) was raffled off to the crowd. I am pretty sure almost everyone got something, Ethan Mutloi was nice enough to donate the pair of Titec shorts he won in the raffle to the youngest racer entered for the event, way to support the future racers. Our sponsors really hooked this event up and I think it was very evident during the raffle. I would like to thank every one who helped make this event the best yet, especially our sponsors. So here they are:

Jack Daniels
Red Bull
Titec Components
Oakley
Smith Optics
Dakine
S.I.C. Components
Sixsixone
Nema International Clothing
Sombrio Clothing
Blackburn
Specialized Bicycles
Wheel Sport East
Obtainium Performance Products
Mrp Racing
Royal Racing

Photo Contest (all weekend)

The photo contest was a last minute addition to the event this year but still brought in some amazing photos. I think this will become a regular part of our festival and will definitely grow next year. Congratulations to Ben Floyd who won the Photo contest and took home a crisp $100 bill. Below is the winning photo:

This event will be much bigger next year with more music, more sanctioned races, a bigger variety of races, more prizes, and more people. Start planning your trip to Silveroxx 2009.
