I classify myself as an handlebar addict. My main passion is MTB Downhill racing, but as long as there is a handlebar I enjoy riding motorbike, bmx, etc...

4 years ago I discovered snowscoot and since that day, anytime there’s a bit of snow i'm addicted to snowscoot.

snowscoot

When I ride my snowscoot I just feel like I am riding my mountain bike, doing endless drifts and when there is fresh powder I just make the perfect bern wherever I want, it's up to my imagination.

After spending two months of mountain bike training in the southerm hemisphere, I was not sure how my return on the snow would be, but I’m super stoked to announce that I’m keeping my Snowscoot Boarder Cross champion title and I’m adding two new titles in Downhill and Dual Slalom.

SOOOO Saucy!

I rode this snow bike this year in isola 2000 and its very tricky, especially in corners, it's not easy as it seems to be, but those guys are killing it!

That vid is sick. I tried one at the Outdoor Retailer Show, on mostly hardpack. In powder it sank. The one in vid seems to have a bigger platform (boards) than the one I tried. Matt Beringer has been building and designing these, as well: spokenaboutbicycles.blogspot.com/2011/08/greatest-snowbikes-on-earth.html

i tried one of those but with wheels, in the summer, its also really hard to do!

The north legion snow bikes are ten times better way easier to ride handle almost exactly like a bike any two ski design is a wast of time

 Oh, powder, I love you.

Looks like it could be a lot of fun, especially in pow. But really people, it's ok to drop the bike for the winter... get a split-board or a touring set-up for your pow-skis and they will take you to some really amazing places with the deepest pow you can imagine and the sickest natural terrain to trick off of, or heck just find a good mountain.  Snowscooting is super fun, been doing it or 5 years now, i've also ridden skibikes a lot before that. Skibike is ok but the seat is always in you way. With snowscoot you have more freedom of movement... Snow scoot is a powder machine, harder to control on hard surface...skibike due to slimmer skis are easier on hard surface but dont compare at all to a snowscoot on powder. I have seen the smx, not sure i'm interrested personnally. The snowscoot the guy is using is a blackmountain, it the only full suspension snowscoot in production that i know of...honnestly i dont think its needed on powder..on groomed trails i could see some benefit, but not for the price.

They are a load of fun, I rode a Black Mountain scoot for a few days in Avoriaz, after a half day your flying on it, but its a bit of an art getting on and of the lifts, and a few times I was reaching for the breaks which feels freaky

This is real snowscoot shredding !
No need for shocks, no need for smx, this shit doesn't work as good as a snowscoot which should be called snowBMX
Big air, big tricks, best riders...

This is the winter sport for those who don't know to ski or snowboarding and also want to shred slopes in the winter. Easy to enjoy mountain and still with handlebars ... God bless Mr Franck Petoud inventer of this sport in 1992!!

I love my sno-scoot! We need MORE people to have these so MORE resorts will open up to them!!! They are a blast in the terrain parks.
  • 2 0
I love the idea of this and was seriously going to buy one. But I live in Vancouver and wrote to all the local mountains (Cypress, Seymour and Grouse) as well as Whistler and all of them said they are not allowed in the resorts. And as I don't have a sled, or don't really want to be hiking in the backcountry, I decided it would be pointless to buy one since i couldn't use it anywhere. I really hope they come around in the near future and if a brand of snowscoot could get in co-hoots with one of the mountains to demo and sell snowscoots, I think they could do very well for themselves!

From my talks with resorts, the main reasons are:

1: Youre considered a 'foot passenger' on the tramways.
2: They could fall off the tramway and hurt some one.
3: Insurance wont cover user to user collisions if other used decided to sue the resort for allowing it.

In my eyes and reasoning, its all a load of bull when you think about it but due to the sue happy nature of people... ruins it for a lot of us. I normally take mine around town and do little jam sessions and once in a while to the local hill.

I think Stevens Pass and I know Snoquilmie allow them. Check them out!

Mt. Hood (ALL the areas) have never seemed to have issue with them... But then when you know all the operators it's kind of shocking what you can get away with now that I think of it... I don't know what'd happen if a "civilian" took one to Meadows but it would be fun as hell. Timberline is a lot of fun on one cause of the upper areas that are wide open and steep (things the Snow scooters really like) are so expansive. We were building things like these way back in '98, it's interesting to me to see that really the design hasn't changed much from our original hack-jobs.
  • 1 0
Yup! I know Mt Hood likes them. I live around Spokane WA so Mt Spokane is literally my back yard. 'awesome trail riding for AM with great views.' But they dont allow them, 49 doesnt allow them Stevens Pass I dont think does either.... Schwitzer doesn't "I dont think?" But they just got quad bike lifts so maybe that has changed. Silver Mtn. is the only one that 'remotely' allows them but they put so many silly rules and regulations on how to use the lifts with them, it makes it highly un-safe for you and other passengers when exiting.
I know right? Big Grin They are so simple but are completely opposite of how we normally ride bikes. Great for off season slide training and slalom work tho!

We used to rip down from the "Scum-its" apartments down to the brew pub (near Ski-bowl in Government Camp) then get towed back up by someone with a 4wd... I'll never drop my AT or "Rondonea'" (sp???) set-up, but it's for something completely different. With the snow bikes you're not looking to go out into the BC (unless you've got a support crew) , it's for sessioning a nice wide POW field or a kicker. We actually built one up way back in the day that just mounted 2 XXXL Volkl POW ski's onto a DH bike and it was SO fun to rid down through the Timberline park on... People gave you SUCH weird looks aye. Actually if you're familliar with some of the original Mack-Dog snowboarding movies (back when FORUM was like THE team to be on) from back around 99-00 there's a clip of me hitting a kicker down in Salmon River canyon on a bright red "snow-bike" that was actually a friends Super 8. I got a really super steez whip in and then proceeded to knock myself out on a particularly flat landing. And yeah, getting on and off the lifts is def. an "acquired" skill aye HAHAHAHHAAHA. Good times. I keep meaning to bring my bike when I'm through Spokane, I'm always coming through on my way out to Idaho to raft or I go to Spoke. to go wheeling with some buddies but I never sem to get to ride there... gonna try'n change that this year aye.

I ride snow moto and is super fun can do my bike tricks just need all that powder here this winter
  • 3 4
 Whats snow moto?
  • 4 2
That second to last picture is pretty cool, look like he is ripping a wave.
  • 1 0
We still need high-end forks with V-brake mounts for those reasons.

But why not try skibiking?

To each his own, but I'll stick with my snowmobile and snowboard for winter ventures. That looks like mono-skiing with handlebars: one bad idea combined with another.
  • 1 0
 Agreed.
  • 1 0
pretty sure you need an Avalance MTN-10 on there. just for the name obviously. 10 inches of travel would be a bit excessive on a snowscoot!
  • 3 1
His snowscoot is nicer than my bike..
  • 1 0
Literrally Cool! Nice innovation and some mtb main parts are maximized as well :-)
  • 3 3
Snowscoot is just awesome, a mix between snowboard and bike- and it`s very easy to handle if you have some experience in biking, and it`s a lot of fun. VOD
  • 4 5
if it was a mix of snowboard and a bike you would be standing on it sideways... skiers rule hehehe
  • 4 2
Looks cool, I'd probably rather just ski though.
  • 2 1
god that looks insanely fun but it seems like itd take a little bit of practice haha
  • 4 2
powder skis are a fun alternative to snow scootin
  • 1 0
or the other way around, although I'm sure they are both extremely fun. can't say I've ever tried snow scooting though
  • 1 0
 Overall it looks Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

But how does it handle the chowder?

-CF-
  • 2 2
yeah nice !!!! i got a snowscoot too !!! andits the thing ti ride in the winter if you ride a bike in the summer ! Razz
  • 4 3
do you really need a shock.. come on..
  • 1 2
What is the point in the shocks? Is this specifically for use it in avalanche debris? It looks like your just riding powder and groomers!
  • 1 0
i don't mean to hate but snow boards get this done so much styler
  • 5 4
 makes winter almost look fun
  • 2 2

All I can think of is: Mono-Skis...
  • 1 0
Crashing on snow is five times better than dirt ... I would love this!
  • 2 1
 i want one of these!

  • 2 1
 Really, Fox's Smile
  • 3 2
 Just looks so much fun.
  • 3 2
 Who makes those scoots?
  • 1 0
 That make specifically? Black Mountain.
  • 1 2
We still need forks with V-brake mount for those reason.
