Social Roundup - EWS Rotorua 2019

Mar 22, 2019
by Aidan Oliver

With the first EWS of the year looming, we've sorted through the weeds to bring you all the info and hype from social media. Follow @pinkbike on Instagram for more.

Follow the EWS through our Instagram:

Following the Enduro World Series live can be a struggle with remote stages and hundreds of riders tackling trails at the same time.

But this year Polygon rider Dan Wolfe will be bringing you behind the scenes action from each round LIVE through the Pinkbike Instagram stories. Find what's going down on course during training and race day through our 'Gram. Be sure to follow @pinkbike to keep up with the action.

Course Preview:

The full course preview with Ric Mclaughlin and Chris Ball is out now on the Pinkbike YouTube channel. You can watch it here.

Martha Gill Dust Surfing:

The trails here are DUSTY. The EWS is kicking off at the end of a hot and dry summer and with rain forecast for the weekend, there could be carnage.

Remi Gauvin:

Even the pros get tired after the long days of Enduro World Series practice!

Sam Hill:

Last year's champ and danger man Sam Hill is looking comfortable and up to speed after day 1 of practice.

Ines Thoma:

All aboard for a big day of practice!

Nukeproof Team:

No new bikes for the Nukeproof team this year but they are rocking new kit and sunshine yellow paint.

Robin Wallner:

Danger man Robin Wallner is looking fast and comfortable in the Rotorua forest already. Robin was sitting in second overall last season, before missing races so he could return home for the birth of his child. He will be one to watch this weekend.

Martin Maes:

He ended 2018 on the top of the world, how will 2019 shape up for the Belgian phenom?

Cecile Ravanel:

Cecile may be out this season with a broken back but she's still touristing it up in Rotorua and cheering on her comrades.

Adrien Dailly Injury Update:

After a long recovery from a broken elbow last year, you may have been dismayed to see our post yesterday about Adrien Dailly tearing a muscle in his elbow. It looks like he's practicing the stages and fingers crossed we'll see him back on the start line this weekend.

Miranda Miller:

This is Miranda Miller's first EWS race with her new team and with a renewed focus on Enduro we can't wait to see how she does.

Wyn Masters:

2017 saw Wyn at the top of the podium, with Eddie in third. Don't count the duo out this weekend.

Noga Korem:

No better way to prep for some EWS action than with a little one-handed Air DH action!

David Mcmillan:

With Rotorua Crankworx going on all this week there are some names on the EWS start list you wouldn't normally see. Vanzacs rider David Mcmillan is racing in the Enduro this weekend and has a fresh new paint job on his Specialized Stumpjumper.

Joe Nation:

Pole rider Joe Nation getting to grips with the stages on day 1 of practice.

Damien Oton Injury:

In case you missed it earlier this week - 2018 second place overall finisher, Damien Oton, has broken his scaphoid in New Zealand while training and will be missing the first two rounds of the EWS. We wish him a speedy recovery.

How awesome is Cecile? Broken neck, not riding but still turns up to spectate. True champion.

I thought the polygon ex squared was supposed to the second coming of Jesus? The ultimate enduro weapon. Yet their own riders are riding their "budget" aluminium 29er.

You mean the marin wolf ridge? Either way, yeah it is interesting to see what the pros decide to ride. Like the trek guys running standard rear shocks instead of the 'amazing' thru shaft re:activ shock and alloy bontrager rims instead of carbon...

Never, ever go full Pole rider....

It’s interesting that Marin and Polygon both have Carbon superbikes with the Nail’d React suspension platform, but yet both posts here feature their riders on Alloy bikes with more standar linkeage driven four bar or single pivot designs. What could it mean????.

Social roundups are awesome! Most of the time I'll see stuff on SM, but it's cool to find new riders to follow or see the top content easier. Keep these coming!

The real question is where is Richie Rude?
  • 5 3
Not in NZ. Killing it late last year, then gooooone. He owes everyone at least a bloody press release. Or something.

 Ah ha!

He's just posted on the 'Gram:

Good luck to everyone racing in Rotorua today!! Especially my @yeticycles boys. —————— With the 2019 season kicking off today, I wanted to give you guys some details on why im not competing. Believe me, its killing me not being there!! Unfortunately, my case has not yet been reviewed by the AFLD. Though I remain optimistic about the outcome of my hearing, I have decided not to compete in the upcoming EWS events in Rotorua or Tasmania out of respect for the AFLD and their process. I appreciate everyone’s continued support and look forward to putting this period behind me and getting back into racing.
