Some athletes head to parts of the world with temperate climates where you can ride year-round in the off-season, while others spend hundreds of hours on the indoor trainer and at the gym. Here we highlight some of the athletes that thrive in a cold climate and are equally impressive on skis or snowboards as they are on two wheels.
It’s a shame that Palmer is missing from this list. He was a game changer for the sport of MTB and raised hell in snowboarding.- Next to that he was pretty damn good at motocross too.
I must be a man god then , I can ride a bike, snowboard, kick a ball, swim, play tennis ( table and lawn ) , squash, rugby, cricket, golf , snooker and pool , I could go on ...........arhhhh but I ain’t good at any !
Sage is one of the best freeskiers in the history of the sport, he is in another universe than the other's on the list... KC is up there too and Britney Phelan...
Sage is one of my all time favorite skiers! Seeing him shred a bike is always awesome, and I love that Sage took part in Cam McCaul's backyard debauchery. #RIPJORDIE
John Cardiel. One of, if not, the gnarliest pro skateboarders ever. During that time he was briefly a professional snowboarder. Now, he kills it on a bike.
All hail Cardiel.
I thought most of the pro mtb-er (and mtb-ers in general) would be snowboarders and not skiers, but that does not seem to be the case. I think more mtb-ers ski rather than snowboard. PinkBike should take a poll to see who skis and snowboards. Results would be interesting.
Wasn’t holl pretty much a pro skier? Want a Rheeder with Casey brown on that heli trip? Isn’t Kerr still ripping on a moto? Dj Brandt is no slouch in the snow. Didn’t Gwin race moto at a pretty high level? Etc
Head above 3000m and it's there. Which is good cos you can ride your bike up to 1000 and not freeze your ass off and then heliski a couple of days later and curse yourself for not having the fattest skis available. I love a bit of vice signalling, and I've already apologized to future generations.
Has been since 2010. Plus if we’re talking dual sport ski n bike... there are so many similarities and such great cross training. If u wanna bike better, go ski
Once skis started to make use of all the cool tech snowboards came up with skis made a huge comeback. If skis had been that cool back when I was a kid I may have tried that instead of ending up on a board.
@elsinore: first and most obvious twin tip skis. Shape, side cut, shorter wider ect... skis were mostly straight planks then snowboarding developed all this stuff to make them work and suddenly skis started to evolve to what you see today. Those advances were all from the advances snowboarding brought to the table.
@mfoga: You may have some argument with twin tips. Side cut evolved from ski racing and was a thing as far back as the 70’s, the only limiting factor there was always torsional stiffness (also nailed down from ski racing) Once side flex was addressed everyone had short radius stuff. Thank people like the Mahre bros and Bode Miller for that.
This is awesome!!! But you forgot to add some people! There’s more sports then just skiing and boarding! What about Darren Berrecloth and his snowbike dirtbike? Kurt Sorge does it as well
As a skier turned mountainbike fanatic, no one is more impressive to me than Dylan Siggers, dude's on the forefront of creativity in both biking and skiing. Mad respect.
Reckon riding 20ft high skinnies in BC is about as good practice as you can get for trying to walk through a wet, tile-floor bar/restaurant in ski boots.
A ski is to a board like a rollerblade is to a skateboard. Sorry but the article is mistitled. Where's Matt Hunter and his surfboard? Tito tomasi and also his surfboard?
Next to that he was pretty damn good at motocross too.

Skis using tech developed from boards?
What tech are you speaking of?

Also Pinkbike: these popular two-wheeled sport athletes also are good at snowsports that don't involve wheels at all? Please give me more 3
Yall are funny.
