During the weekend of 11-12 September there took place camps, shows and different events with the top riders from Specialized.

The downhill camps had as instructors the recent downhill world champion Sam Hill, and one of the best freeriders of the moment, Matt Hunter, together with the local rider Chus Castellanos, whom gave the best advices the whole the weekend.

On Saturday morning there was a mountain bike route with over 300 participants, who enjoyed riding with his idols during the 49km of singletracks alongside Ned Overend, Christoph Sauser and Burry Stander.

Specialized brought all the news for 2011, even being able to test the full range of mountain bikes free of charge on the best trails of the bike park. The new Demo 8, was the most bike on demand during the weekend.

Victor Esplugas, from Specialized Spain, flew high with his new Specialized P2 at the Dirt Jump shows.

On Sunday it was time for the road, where the three times winner of Tour de France, Alberto Contador (Astana) was the star. But all the attention was on Sam Hill, who along with Matt Hunter decided to make the road course in the morning and leave the Bike Park lines for the afternoon. The interesting thing was to see Sam Hill, dressed in his baggy green Troy Lee DH shorts, his Fiveten’s and flat pedals, riding on a road bike and completing the 120km of the road track.

Eva Castro was the instructor of the Four Cross camp, teaching the best tricks learned during her long years as a world cup racer, and the difficult Four Cross track of La Pinilla Bike Park was the best place for practice.

It has been a great weekend, where everybody could ride and learn with his idols, try the new bikes and have fun at this wonderful Bike Park in the center of Spain..

haha! Sam should have also gone for a fullface helm for the road bike)))

Why would hill ride flats on a road bike?
I know that specialized has tons of Shoes and pedals that he could have worn.. I understand he was just out on a casual ride and that he likes flats. But to ride 75ish miles on flats and fivetens seams silly. I feel inefficient riding any of my Mtn bikes clipped in but I couldn't Imagine not clipping in on the Road bike..

Because he`s a bike god!he`s an immortal on a bike he can do whatever...hahah

all hail sam hill!

 cos hes a robot.

whats the point in training with clips if he races with flats?
  • 4 0
buahah, I love these speculations Big Grin How about he didn't bring his clip-in shoes? Or he just doesn't care? I ride road quite often without SPD and just because I don't have other pair of SPD pedals and not always want to spend 15 minutes changing pedals from my AM bike to my roadie/commuter

Only thing there I find disturbing is the lid on his helmet, can do some neck pain in the long run when used on a roadie...

On the road bike? To get stronger... and you'll get better training riding clipped in.
  • 4 0
wouldnt spd's use different muscles to which flats use?
  • 3 0
yes, if you analyze the angle of the foot when pushing on the flat pedal comparing to when in SPD it's gonna take different muscles to work, then it is also very important to mark that these CB pedals are heavier therefore inreased dynamic mass is going to influence his training. Not mentioning the differences in sole stiffness between different shoes and shoe-pedal contact surface mhm lots of areas to explore... Big Grin

And if you think about it: SPDs include dragging the pedal up which might be vital for build up of muscles responsible for bunnyhopping...

 SH legend!
  • 2 1
He's sponsored by 5.10 and C-bros. It would be against his contracts.
  • 1 0
well both c-bros and 5.10 make clip in products...
  • 1 0
he is also sponsored by Spech which has one of the best lines of footwear out there..
  • 1 0
Regarding gear he is sponsored by Spec on Frames wheels tyres and probably something else. But footwear specificaly is sponsored to him by Five Ten, so he is obliged to use their shoes. If he would like to or had them at place at all, he would surely use their new SPDs.

Don't lie , You know you want it too. judging by the look on his face , I think he was thinking the same thing. LOL!!!
