In 2011 the RUX was born to enter the DH suspension world. Its test pilots, Garett Buehler and James Doerfling, were dropping big lines in British Columbia in preparation for their first big show at Rampage 2012. The RUX chassis was solid and dependable, but refinement was needed. For three years the WERX team refined the details, and in 2015 things were changing with a Women’s Junior World Championship under Marine Cabirou and a Rampage win under Kurt Sorge.

Last season saw the addition of our R2C2 PCS (piston compensator system) damper earning a bronze medal under Frenchman Florent Payet at World Championships, another Rampage podium, and Best Trick under Carson Storch.

With solid products, we turned to build our WERX support team to match the needs of a growing world-class family, and the Polygon UR team was a great test of it all. A few laps in Whistler and some pre-season testing at Bailey Mountain, North Carolina, with Mick Hannah showed what the RUX could do. After these tests sessions, the Polygon UR team made a comment, "Wow, it's surprisingly good.” Most companies would not share this, but we are not them.

We know what the RUX can do, and it's about to change people's perception of what SR SUNTOUR is doing. We would like to thank the Polygon UR team for their support, trust, and commitment to us. We welcome you to the family, and good things shall come.

bigquotesI'm excited to develop a new relationship with SR Suntour! So far the performance has been very impressive! It has a good balance between comfort and support, and I love how tunable it is which means we can have a great setup on any course. - Mick Hannah

bigquotesI am so excited to be partnering up with SR Suntour for the upcoming season. The fork is very comfortable, and from the first run I felt at home; I believe the partnership compliments my goals for this season and I can't wait to start racing. - Tracey Hannah

bigquotesThe team is really stoked to partner with SR Suntour for the coming years! When the team decided to work with SR Suntour we didn't judge by the reputation, nationality or the size of any company. We are taking the decisions on real facts with the goal of working with the right people to develop the best products that will make us ride faster in the long run. - Polygon UR Team

bigquotesLooking at the SR Suntour background, you wouldn't think they would be the first choice for a World Cup team. But the reality is when you put together hard work, motivation, and humble people and you give them the means to achieve their goals good things will happen! - Fabien Cousinie, Team Manager Polygon UR)

bigquotesThis is exactly what happened with SR Suntour over the last few years, and the podium at World Champs from our good friend Florent Payet is unquestionable proof of performance, especially on a track like Val di sole. - Polygon UR Team

bigquotesThis is where SR Suntour is at now, and haters are going to hate but we believe that adding the suspension experience of the team, and with more hard work with an awesome group of people, we will hopefully have more podiums but for sure more fun. - Polygon UR team

And that's the end of an episode where BOS almost became a big player. I don't know if they still have any OEM except the Rocky Mountain DH bike I think. It looks like they don't even have a website anymore. Is it the end for them? That'd be sad, that's the best forks I've ever had and tried (didn't try the last Fox 36 though).
  • 8 6
BOS were good while they were working. Sadly that wasn't most of the time... From my experiencie not many positive things, and yep I think is the end of the brand..
  • 16 1
@marianodh21: quite oposite feeling here. My BOS forks (3) and shocks (3) never let me down. Performance wise they at at the very top and when it comes to the service, guys from Mad Elk Cycles are the best deal with Smile
I'm a BOS fan and it will be very sad day if I wont be able to ride their susp.

If i'm not mistaken, Orbea makes complete bikes with BOS suspension, i'm pretty sure there are other small manufacturers using BOS as well, just can't think of any at the moment.
  • 4 0
@hitarpotar: just looked on Orbea's website and it seems they're on the Fox bandwagon now. Morewood offer BOS suspension as a feature but they also offer Fox and CaneCreek..
  • 6 1
In the very first image (after the video). The bike in the foreground in the stand is still using the BOS Void shock I believe.
It's certainly not the DVO Jade SR Suntour usually give their riders.
-> Storch with the Suntour/DVO combo at Rampage:

Maybe the Polygon/BOS team isn't over just yet. . .
  • 5 2
@ItsOnlyJayke: I believe DVO products are made by Suntour. I spoke to the french Suntour staff and it seems that there are some DH shocks on their way
  • 7 0
@Whipperman: That's to be expected after perfecting their DH fork. Smile
As far as i remember, DVO uses the production powers of SR Suntour to produce the Jade, the Emerald, the Diamont, the Topaz, not sure about the new dropper-post. Smile They chose Suntour because of their size and experience. Smile
  • 1 0
@Whipperman: SR Suntour manufacture the fork lowers and possibly the CSU for DVO
  • 4 0
@hitarpotar: not anymore they dont, on fox for this year. Runours have it that bos are leaving the mtb game
  • 1 0
@doe222: and where are these rumours coming from?
  • 10 0
@Blablablup123: the 15+ Workers that got let go.
  • 2 0
Good suspension, poor service :/ they've left one too many bitter experiences with me, and I may be wrong, I don't see YT equipping their bikes with BOS-- quite possibly related to the recent issue? BOS has had a lot of good opportunities to be a big player contender. :/
  • 1 0
I think Zumbi still equips their builds with BOS
  • 3 0
And in the case of the RM Maiden, they have switched to Fox suspension for 2017. 2016 appears to have been the only year with the BOS fork.
  • 1 0
@Getradbro: And where do you have that information from?
  • 25 0
Refreshing to hear a component company say their product is not quite there yet in terms of performance but they are determined to make it the nest they can. A much needed antidote to all the 'this is the greatest thing ever!' press releases you get normally. If SR Suntour are serious about getting into the higher end OE market and aftermarket then this approach is a good thing for us, more competition usually drive s down prices, ups performance or both.
  • 11 0
They unfortunately still drag the old "Suntour is garbage" image with all the entry bikes fitted with unexpensive Suntour forks. While on the high end, they are definitely getting better and better. 4 or 5 years back I wouldn't have thought buying a Suntour fork, but right now ? I would definitely consider them.
  • 1 0
@Ploutre: Agree on your last comment
  • 4 0
they need to have two companies like tektro and TRP. marketing for each pricing segment should be completely different.
  • 1 0
 @trezzanick: Like maybe, I don't know... DVO?

My brother has the Durolux from 2014 and it performs great, but very noisy...Are the current offerings as loud? That's the ONLY complaint...Thanks
  • 14 0
The Rux R2C2 earned an outstanding rating from Vital MTB. See here: www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/Forks,33/SR-Suntour/RUX-R2C2,16351#product-reviews/2601

Just hit the purchase button on a set of rc2 Aurons. They're replacing some rl2 x-fusion sweeps that i really haven't been happy with. Will be interesting to see how they compare, the Auron's are ridiculously cheap for for what you get, time will tell if they perform as expected.
  • 3 0
I replaced my old Rockshox Lyrik with a set of Durolux Rc2 and they have been faultless, plenty of adjustment and they felt great straight away Smile can't beat the for the price either in my opinion
  • 1 0
Been on 150mm Auron's for just over a year. Really tough and hard working fork. Damping is great. My only slight gripe is they ramp up a little too early and very rarely get anywhere near the last 20mm of travel, but it does at least mean they remain very composed and don't feel mushy. Really suit aggressive riding, they love being pushed hard into turns. Think of them as a long 120mm travel fork with a bottom out that you'll only really see in emergency situations
  • 1 0
@IllestT: Well im a bigger guy (92kg) and aggressive, my biggest annoyance with the sweep was it always bottomed so maybe i'll get on with these.
  • 2 0
@IllestT: Auron's have an adjustable air volume. Early versions had a simple yellow elastomer that could be cut down to make less ramp / more linear feel. If you haven't done anything to the stock one cut 1/3 off and test it out.

Current versions are more slick with 11 mm spacers (like Rock Shox Tokens) that can be pushed together so you can run however many you want. If you haven't modified anything I'd suggest get two of these
www.envelo.cc/sr-suntour-feg270-11mm-air-volume-spacer.html
  • 1 0
@sprockets: Yeah thanks for the advice and link. To be honest, I am aware that I can cut some kind of elastomer thing down, but it sounds kinda dodgy and I'm not really into fettling with fork internals either.
I guess I can't have it both ways!
  • 7 0
Knolly boys Garett Buehler and James Doerfling have been on the forks for years. I think Tippie rides 'em too, doesn't he? Those guys occasionally ride some challenging terrain.
  • 2 0
 "occasionally'' lol

Billy Goat Bikes DH team moved to the SR Suntour Rux R2C2 last season. We had great success with the forks. We were able to work closely with both the US and the Europe-based support teams. Suntour is very driven to make this the best DH fork on the market. They have been open to feedback and stand behind their products. I'm proud to say we will continue to work with Suntour for the 2017 season. These forks have been rock solid and the team recommends giving them a try.
  • 11 2
 Suntour on tour hahaha
  • 4 0
Been running Suntour forks for a while now, and I can honestly say they are way underrated. Basically getting a fork that performs as well as a FOX fork, but for way cheaper. The RUX also just got a killer review from Vital. Suntour stuff is badass and I love their forks.
  • 3 0
The forks look great and no doubt the performance is great also. They suffer from a brand issue as we all think back to the Canadian Tire and Walmart bikes with the Suntour forks on them. A rebranding of the forks might make a difference as the performance certainly backs the products up. Kinda like Hyundai vehicles. They have awesome reviews however I'd still be skeptical about buying one just due to my memory of the Hyundai Pony. No different here.
  • 1 1
I think you have to take things on a case by case basis. Pontiac made the Pontiac Firefly, and the Pontiac GTO.
  • 3 1
Seems Shimano is held to a different standard. There are tons of mass merchant bikes with Shimano's lowest end derailleurs but nobody expects them to change their name. Each company just makes the best product for that customers price point.
  • 1 1
I know - call them "Marzocchi"
  • 1 1
@sprockets: I think it may be because suntour seemed to almost completely disappear from high end bikes but kept on with the cheap stuff, whereas shimano has consistently had a major presence in both the highend and lowend sides of things.
  • 2 0
@jaycubzz: and also shimanos low end stuff actually works
  • 2 1
@Cefn: Well yes Shimano Tourney and Acera works but within it's intended use, pavement and light trail riding. ....same goes for the SR Suntour stuff like an XCT or XCM you might find with those Shimano parts. It's when somebody expects a XCT or XCM to morph into a dirt jump fork that expectations are not met.

All this WC news has me expecting a course preview from Claudio anyday now. End the winter deppresion already.
  • 4 0
This is cool, get to see how another brand performs on a good team. The Rux is already Rampage proven, and SR Suntour will get more feedback from some seriously da st racers.
  • 4 0
I'm glad i got my used Rux when I did, as it will no doubt be much more valuable now. But I'm not selling. The fork is incredible. Highly recommmended.
  • 2 0
I had a SR Suntour MG-92 100mm fork on a 2001 KHS FXT Sport. It had spring/damper assemblies in each leg and each leg was individually tune-able for pre-load. It weighed 1835g. For what it was, it worked great and had a huge range of pre-load adjust to take it from super cush to pretty aggressive settings. I weighed 235lbs at one point and it held me up just fine. I ended up giving it to my son for his bike. It's now 16 years old and works as well as the day I bought it. I've serviced it a few times, but the accordion stanchion boots keep the dampers clean. Is it the greatest thing ever? No. But, for what it is, a basic XC fork, it's pretty nice.

I'm glad Suntour has upped their game, Their new forks look good and it's nice to hear that so many people like them.
  • 1 0
Nice to see Suntour finally starts believing in their product. My 1st gen RUX has a golden disclaimer sticker saying it is not suitable for freeride and downhill riding ... on the other hand, after it came back from the service (at Suntour) it came back with switched stanchions so maybe the warningis more than valid...
  • 1 0
Cool to see this. Suntour simply didn't have this high profile image because, just like X Fusion, they initially mostly catered for the lower end market. Which doesn't mean they can't actually create top level gear. If they want to, they can. It is a big company. I believe the Polygon team will benefit from the support of having these suspension techs at the races as well. And compared to a couple of years ago, the frames and components we see on the WC circuit is so much more varied.
  • 3 1
X Fusion have been sponsering the dirt propain/Orange WC team for a few years now
  • 2 0
@felimocl: Oh yeah, X-Fusion has been in the picture for quite a while and of course Suntour did sponsor quite few successful 4X racers (though 4X racing as a whole didn't get the attention). But there has been a while when it was mostly Fox and RockShox in WC DH racing. Makes me wonder if RST will step up as well now.
  • 3 0
It's been happening for some time, many just don't realize it. XC...many WC podiums, World Champions, Olympic Gold Enduro.... Megavalanche wins, 3x NAET champ DH... WC podiums and 3rd at World champs last year Freeride...multiple athletes at Rampage since 2012, Rampage winner and last year best trick. Been supporting top tier athletes for quite a while.
  • 2 0
@sprockets: You're right. I clearly have not been paying enough attention. Cheers Smile .
  • 1 0
I hope suntour loose the low end rep they have. Looks be a proven product which looks great at a more competitive price. Hell isn't Dvo made by suntour so quality must be good? Rock shox have low end forks but it didn't stop the pike taking over !
  • 1 0
One thing I've noticed from suspension demonstration videos is that the forks are always working absolutely amazing. I don't want to be daft, and say they don't always work amazing, but I am interested if having the whole factory backing improves things exponentially.
  • 3 0
Been running the R2C2 fork for a few months now and am really impressed with it. Plush out of the box and easily compares to Fox and Rock Shox in my opinion.
  • 3 0
Is it just my computer... but why is the video "password protected"?
  • 1 0
 it works for me.
  • 2 1
Is a tapered head tube necessary on a double crowned fork?
It seems more like a limitation in case you want to use an angleset or a reach adjuster...
  • 5 0
Bigger bottom cup creates stronger headtube as it allowes for bigger contact area when welding.
  • 2 0
@tsuful: yes we all agree that using it on the frames is better but why not run a reducer headset and leave the fork at 1 1/8 so you can run angle adjuster headsets if you so wish?
  • 2 1
@netracer-enduro: "tapered head tubes" that what steer me off. Now I know what he meant. That doesnt make sense to me as well as the double crown form is stiff enough and theres no need to make it stiffer through adding a tapered steer tube.
  • 4 0
@tsuful: I think they referenced this in the vital review, it's not for stiffness (as if anybody would notice anyway); it's just to keep things in line with trail bikes, every bike has a tapered headset fitted nowadays so why not keep things standard.
I like it, and I don't think any frame or fork manufacturer should have to design with an aftermarket angleset in mind when they increase the likelyness of frame failure.
  • 2 1
excellent brand, when I started to ride a bicycle) in my byudet not afford to buy an expensive and reliable fork=|
the first fork was sr suntour)
  • 3 2
In Dutch the word 'ruk' means either 'shitty' or 'to toss off', so it would be kinda akward to ride with that fork in the Netherlands.
  • 7 0
Good thing it's spelled with an X and not the same word.
  • 4 1
 @Getradbro:
So I assume you would buy a fork named Dix or Sux if you lived in an English speaking country?
  • 2 0
Is there a huge market for DH forks in the Netherlands?
  • 1 0
@OllyHodgson: Don't forget the flemish part of Belgium with its big mountains xD
  • 2 0
Jimi Hendrix fans might get it.
  • 1 0
I'm looking forward for new generation of forks from Suntour. I keep my fingers crossed.
  • 2 1
i have a duro lux r2c2, and don´t like. the soft touch is a shi%. rockshox and fox is better.
  • 2 0
What brand of rear shock will the team run though?
  • 2 0
Looks like BOS from the video
  • 14 1
 Black Sharpie
  • 1 0
in the dark fest video the bike behind Sam Reynolds has Rux forks on as well.
  • 1 0
There was a few sets in the rampage I'm sure. Nice looking fork to be fair.
  • 3 0
 And rear Shock???
  • 1 0
My bike got polygon frame, durolux fork and spank components.. This news is as good as a fanboy like me could ever wish!
  • 1 0
My Suntour XCM never let me down. It bottoms out sometimes, but they are pretty good
  • 1 0
But what shock will they be using now?
  • 1 1
At least esthetically these forks look really nice!
  • 1 0
 Epic-On
  • 1 1
