 can someone tell me why Baptiste Pierron is not protected ? Hes top 20 afterall.
  • + 5
 I believe the rules for protected riders changed this season. It's hard to explain, but I think it's the top ten from last year's overall standings, plus the top ten currently ranked riders who were not in last year's top ten (so there's still 20 protected riders in total). This also explains why Gee Atherton is still protected even though he's ranked outside of the current top 20 (he was top ten at the end of last year).

 @srjacobs: yep

“Protected riders” to the final are:

1. riders ranked in the top 5 women elite and the top 10 men elite of the final world cup
standings of the previous season.
2. the best ranked riders from the current world cup standings, that are not included in
point 1 above, until a total of 10 women elite and 20 men elite are reached.
3. If any riders as described under 1. and 2. above do not confirm participation at an
event they will not be replaced.
4. Men and women junior riders ranked in the top 3 of the current world cup standings.
At the first world cup round of the season 1 there will be no protected junior riders.
For the first UCI MTB world cup round of the season, the top 10 women elite and the top 20
men elite of the final world cup standings of the previous season are “protected” for the final.

 @bok-CZ: thx. that change was overdue -not. So Gee spends the entire year outside the top 20 and is still protected,seems not the best system.

 anyone know what the N (national outfit) means??
  • + 5
 Nonce
  • + 3
 n stands for "not enough points" -in all seriousness; if a rider has not enough points to attend the national cycling whatever can give him a national jersey which enables him to compete.
  • + 3
 It means that you don't have enough UCI points to register for a WC. You need to get the jersey of the national cycling federation to be allowed to enter.

 What happened to timed training ????
  • + 1
 Time training is today, results will be up later

 @Freakyjon: ah okay thanks :-)

 Any idea why gee is protected?
  • + 6
 Top 10 last year?
  • + 8
 @rockyflowtbay: Gee and Minaar should be protected for as long as they do not quit!
