Start List: XC Team Relay - Leogang World Championships 2020

Final tag out for Jolanda Neff and the Swiss.

The World Championships competition kicks off this afternoon with the team relay. This is a cross country race format where nations send a team of six to compete in a race around the XC course with each rider taking on one lap before tagging in one of their teammates. Each team must be comprised of a Junior man and woman, an Under 23 man and woman and an Elite man and woman.

Last year, Switzerland took the win with Jolanda Neff and Nino Schurter doing the heavy heavy lifting in the last two laps to take the lead and snatch the win. Team USA took second, and Team France rounded out the medals in third. After a big week of racing in Nove Mesto, it looks like some of the biggest names have opted to sit this race out, which should make the racing this afternoon a wide open competition.

12 teams will be taking to the start this year and here's how they will line up:

Well, at least they got 12 teams to enter. They aren't kidding about a lot of the big guns sitting it out.
That might be a good thing though. Given how the youngsters did last week it could make for an exciting race.
I haven't been able to find anyone broadcasting it. Frown

None of the notable riders are racing. It is good for the up and coming racers to get in the mix though.

Seems like a fun race format, with the mixed categories and all. Would be fun to see this in pumptrack racing though obviously without the head to head racing and without hitting your teammate when taking turns. A bit scary the speeds they're going at. But for XC it seems like a really fun concept. Something you'd do with family against family.

It's a nice fun format. They should do it after the XCO so the top riders can join in.

Is there a defined order? Or is it up to the teams to decide who rides when? With only 12 teams there won't be a start lap traffic jam, but there will still be a big speed difference between some of the competitors, overtaking costs you time.

Fully up to the teams which order which rider rides. Part of the race strategy.

 France as favourites?

@BeardlessMarinRider I don't know. The US has 4 solid riders in Batten, Blevins, Huck & Swenson.
It could come down to how well their junior riders do. They're a relatively unknown commodity who could throw a spanner into any prediction.

@BeardlessMarinRider Good call on France. The US really fell off in the 2nd half. Keegan & Erin did not have good outings.
