PRESS RELEASE: Summit Bike Park

The Summit Bike Park in Big Bear Lake is set to open for the 2020 season, with daily operations beginning June 12. While a few things will be different this year (more on that below), the park will still be dialed and ready to welcome riders for the summer season.

As is the case every spring, Summit’s Trail Crew has been busy taking on the daunting task of converting the previously snow-covered ski resort into a fully functioning bike park. Over the past several weeks the team has spent countless hours getting the trails ready for opening day, including Going Green, Turtle Trail, Small Wonder, Miracle Mile, and 10-Ply, which debuted before last year’s FOX U.S. Open of Mountain Biking.

The Trail Crew has also been rehabbing several trails that traverse Snow Summit’s property footprint, including Pirates, Fall Line, Dickies, and Plumbers as part of the resort’s continued commitment to the Big Bear Trails Foundation Adopt-A-Trail program.

Getting this dialed

Please note: several base-area skill builder trails, including Average Joes, Globogym, the mulch pit, and pump track will be unavailable until further notice, but the children’s pump track is scheduled to open to the public soon.

To accommodate county/state health guidelines, several new policies will be implemented at Summit Bike Park this summer, including:

- Chairlift capacity will be limited to two (2) guests per carrier with guests responsible for loading their own bikes onto the chairlifts.
- Bike Park lift tickets and season passes may be purchased online, by email, or by calling 844.GO2.BEAR. We strongly advise purchasing lift products and filling out the liability waiver in advance to avoid unnecessary time spent in the base area.
- Bike Park season passes will be available for pick-up at the Snow Summit ticket windows beginning Monday, June 8, from 9AM-3PM.
- Guests should wear a face mask and follow social distancing guidelines (6 feet apart) in the parking lot, base area, or in the presence of others.
- Line mazes will be reconfigured to help guests maintain proper social distancing while in line for the lift, but we ask for your cooperation in maintaining proper distance throughout the property.
- Bike and safety equipment rentals will be available, with full sterilization protocols in line with CDC guidelines between users.
- Guests who do not comply with the resort’s amended operating policies may be refused service and/or be asked to leave the property.

 More jumps on Partywave/Westridge please!

I'd be happy if everyone just stopped dragging their f*cking brakes causing all the fricken chatter and braking bumps(a lot of which are in places that you have no business hitting your brakes). It'd be nice NOT to have to re-tighten all the bolts on my bike when I get home after riding there.

The trail is literally non-stop jumps.

Not sure how I feel about that because I suck at jumping haha, it kinda takes me a few times to clear them all, but that's my problem. I do wish they would build a few "natural" trails eventually though, I think it would give some diversity. Grateful to have a good bike park so close for sure.

@Rubberelli: ....there’s literally tons of space for more jumps, bigger jumps. It’s what jump trail riders want. That’s why they have other trails for people that don’t want them or many of them.

@BrigadierBuege: 10-ply is pretty much natural DH outside of one cool feature they built. Everything that is outside of the actual park is all natural.

@bikebike69: if you add a jump between two existing jumps then you wouldn't get the speed to clear the last one! Has anyone counted the jumps top to bottom? I'm going to say more than 30.

@Rubberelli: .You must realize I’m suggesting more jumps in the open spaces along the run! Not in the middle of existing sets! And...yes I’m intimately familiar with the trail. I’m up twice a week all bike season and it’s the only trail I ride because it’s the jump line.
As I said above there is plenty of room for more jumps. That’s kinda what jump riders want out of a jump line.

Versus will be there with free stickers & special pricing on tires to celebrate the opening.
Look for our tent in the parking lot. Really excited for this.

As much as I am not interested in purchasing a pass this year, not being able to go to Mammoth, I probably will in the hopes that trail traffic will be lower. Only thing I don't like about the place is the number of people I nearly run over who have no business on MM, let alone 10-Ply. I'll do some pedal up laps in a couple of weeks and decide then.

@SnowSummitBikePark When is the trail opening?

First I have heard. What type of trail is it?
  • 2 0
@Rubberelli: I don't really know. From what I can tell, it runs parallel to Party Wave. Here is the trail map, www.bigbearmountainresort.com/summer/mountain-information/mountain-info/mountain-bike-trail-map.

(Look near the top)

@Rubberelli: blue by definition blue is easier, so a milder “jump line” I’m guessing.

@bikebike69: Yeah that would be kinda fun

Based on the map it really just looks like it is a different start that leads to party wave. It looks to just by pass the initial kicker section. Maybe they will put in a small jump option. The wooden kicker is pretty easy to hit though and even beginners can case the crap out of it without much risk.

@benbenbeast: you know what: I recall last season many people talking about the trail crew building something next to Party Wave. I had just thought they were doing a reroute or an optional bit of fun.

Never been more excited to break out the V10.
