I can't believe how quiet mountainbikes are right now. Every time I see a video with riding sounds in it there's literally only the sound of tires and maybe the buzzin' of the rear hub left. I need a clutch derailleur on my DH-bike.

Shimano zee.. works great, super quiet, and less than 40 euros in germany!
  • 9 2
Well the sound of these raw videos are normally post producted... Still with clutch derailleurs and 1X systems the bikes are astonishing quiet!
  • 44 0
We recorded all of the sound while filming, like the good ol days!

I love when I try to film myself and all I hear are wild turkeys in my brakes

 @bookieboy100 - running Avids ehhh ? LOL

That's awesome @virtumedia! I just said that cause in the recent two major raw videos it was obvious or the producers explained it...

The Trek is also Known to be a very quiet bike ! very good job on the edit !

I like seeing more of what CGP has to offer, more than just the jumps but the technical fast dh trails!
  • 6 0
Yeah, it is great to see something other than that main jump line. I want to go ride there even more now.

I still don't get why people ride with tubes.i never had a flat in 7 years riding tubeless.
  • 108 8
I don't think you've been riding hard enough then...
  • 7 3
 Tubeless son!
  • 6 1
I used to run tubeless but if I ever landed a little sideways it would "bend' the tire and the tire would then rub against my frame, ruined basically. so I quite running tubeless. cant find any information online about this and I have been wondering about it for a year now. has anyone else had experience with this? what am i doing wrong here? awesome video
  • 8 0
@George1220 I doubt that's a result of running tubeless, your tubeless tires must have just had super weak sidewalls. Get some downhill casing tubeless tires and you really shouldn't have this problem.
  • 1 0
@mikeypearman97 thanks for the response. I must have been using the exo sidewall or something on those minions. I cant remember. im about to try it again with my spank spikes race28s with regular wire bead minions.
  • 5 1
@mikeypearman97 I agree, it's not because of the tubeless, it's because of the tire choice, wheel choice - and the tire pressure.

@George1220 Maxxis has many different terms for describing their tires. EXO is the sidewalls resistance to cuts. TR is usually what you want to look for, in order to have proper tubeless support. Like the DH casing, TR is also a very firm tire - but I believe TR sidewalls felt even stronger than the DH casing sidewall.

Some time when cutting em hard - this'll happen tubeless, tubed, whatever.

So... you saw a flat there eh? For future reference, when you see a tire peeled off the rim with an inflated tube all wound up in there, that's someone riding like a boss who peeled their tire off the rim while cornering. Not a Flat. Tubeless would've only made a couple differences : 1 - huge mess. 2 - real pain to put back together.
  • 3 1
@nickel Truth be told, I don't think tubeless would stand up to that amount of side loading. He'd be burping air - every corner that he cut like that. Until we see bead locks on bikes, tubeless may never be the answer in aggressive free ride/dh.
  • 1 0
I'm a big boy at #240 and I run tubeless for the record- but it takes time to find the perfect set up. The traction at lower pressures is amazing but burping tires and dingin' rims sucks. You can also snakebite tubeless setups, but it takes some abuse. No different than running tubes, it's just lighter with better traction but more maintenance.

@cstishenko find me a professional that doesn't run tubeless besides at rampage or slopestyle events ...
  • 2 0
@schofell84 No worries man... I run tubeless too. I'd never go tubes again.
  • 15 1
Way to sport, Sport! You sported a little hard at the end there, but a little time on the side lines and you'll be back athleteing in no time!

siiiiiiiick. Just what I needed to brighten up my day!

@deityusa - is this video uploaded on YouTube? If so can I get the link? So pumped on this edit and I want to post it on soulid.me but it only allows YouTube and Vimeo links. Thanks!

Awesome video. I want to go ride... That trail looks sick too. Rough dirt and little rocks - little bit ouchy if you bail Smile

I was wondering where would this guy go to, he was part of the Knolly team. Good to see him back on the bike.

@nert- Big move for sure! We shot it last year for our 2015 Jedi launch. Our favorite perspective is from lookers right- www.pinkbike.com/photo/11903187

The new dirt work on the take off looks a little more fun now though... Great job sending it Spencer!

Cheers guys! I looked it up, it does indeed look tiny in this video compared to what it actually is... I'll have to take a look next time I'm there :-)

Wild vid. Is that a typical for Schwalbe tires?
  • 4 0
I've had it happen with Minions, Magic Mary, Butcher, and way back with Nevegal, both with and without tubes, almost always on the rear tire cornering hard, cutty style or slamming a berm to get a faster inside line out of it. I'm 6'3 and 220 and it's a fine line running a PSI low enough that makes the tire work well and conform to the terrain and brake and corner well, but just high enough so you don't loose a bead. Depends on the rim too, higher rim walls (translate this to HUGE pain in the ass getting tires on and off the rim) seem to hold better, while lower can be tricky. Heavier multiple ply casings help too. Also, each individual tire is different as well, which you can tell when putting the tire on the rim, some are tight and some are loose right out of the box, same brand and make of tire. Acceptable manufacturing variance has to allow a little leeway for this, or they'd be binning every third tire they produced and tires would be even more expensive than they are now.

Anyway, the faster and more aggressively you're cornering, especially for taller heavier guys where COG is higher off the ground, the more psi you need to avoid this with any tire. So, you're always hunting for that magical tire pressure where you get good ground conformity, feel, and minimal deflection off the sidewalls, while keeping this phenomenon of the bead from releasing from the rim down to once or twice a season, not once or twice a day, hahaha.

At 6'4" and 240 I can echo that sentiment. I'm seriously considering the merits of Procore...
