Superenduro Cancels 2021 Race Series

The resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic has led Superenduro organisers to abandon this year's racing.

The Italian Superneduro Series have announced that they will be missing another year of racing as they cancel the 2021 race series. This news follows their similar decision in 2020 that saw the longstanding series host no events. While the Superenduro will not be taking place in 2021, the organisers will still be hosting the EWS at four Italian rounds.

bigquotesIn this climate, Superenduro’s board has concluded that the unavoidable interruption to the Series will carry on during the 2021 season. All energies and resources will be instead focussed on the four rounds of the Enduro World Series that will take place in Italy: Val di Fassa, La Thuile, Pietra Ligure and Finale Ligure.

This decision has matured in the light of the experience made during the 2020 season while co-organizing the two Liguria’s rounds of EWS: very successful events, something to be proud of, that have also made clear at first hand the amount of work involved and the resources needed to achieve such a result. Superenduro has always aimed at organizing top-notch races, but these standards – add on top all elements related to anti-COVID safety – could not be guaranteed.

Until the very last moment, valid solutions were sought to allow the organization of events that would live up to expectations, but a fair balance between efforts, resources and guarantee of success could not be struck. What has certainly not failed in this year of pandemic is the riders’ desire to compete and put some power down. With no less than 4 rounds of the EWS Series taking place in Italy, there will certainly be an opportunity to put themselves to the test.— Superenduro

While the EWS main events are reserved for pro riders only, this year the EWS100 and EWS80 events will be making a return meaning anyone hoping to take part in the Superenduro series can still get between the tape on some Italian trails.  It’s a real shame that in so many sports and disciplines you have top athletes at what could be potentially their peak having to sit out or truncate their season. Feel for them.

 @abueno: I don’t think anyone needs to feel guilty I think we’re all out here doing the best we can, I can still feel for people that train to be at the peak of a sport I enjoy but can’t compete for the greater good.

 It is a real shame that in so many places and occasions there are people even of a high cultural level in what could potentially be the simplest and most effective method of fighting the virus to see them miss the opportunity. Feel for them.

 @abueno: DUDE. you're OUTSIDE. Why is this even a fuggin argument as to whether have mountain bike races?? This is so stupid to me. Literally one person riding down a hill, and spectators have literally unlimited room to separate themselves from each other. You can have American Football and packed domestic flights but people are poo-poo'ing mountain biking races?? The logic behind all this I will never understand.

 @Koz1985: yea I don’t think you get the point, just because one is allowed and the other isn’t..doesn’t make either right. There’s some missing logic on your point. Yes they are outside, but have you been to a race, have you been to a trail..do you understand how many people will have to come within a few feet of each other at the start gates regardless? For example, lest say only 50 people are racing, that’s a full football field length they will need to be separated by just to comply..

So put markers up where people can stand - they do that in terminals for airlines, shopping markets, etc. etc. What they are doing with mountain bike races makes ZERO sense, and the fact that there is not enough push-back (or seemingly so) is frightening. Dude - again, people are literally outside. One is certainly LESS likely to catch this thing much more so than someone sitting online at COSTCO or at the bus terminal. Oh i very well understand what's happening here, and unfortunately, NO ONE (talking about government, CDC, the WHO, you name it) is getting this whole thing right and making terribly illogical and stupid decisions. Stop the fear-mongering and get on your damn bike and ride brother.

Also, if you are worried about your health, or someone close to you, then don't come to the races. Put up markers, wear a mask (if necessary) and let the races and biking resume.

 @Koz1985: the spread of the virus in Italy is slowing down because we have taken its gravity seriously. I agree with you that there are absolutely more serious situations (subway, bus, line at the supermarket) than doing a mtb race but if for a year or two the world slows down we should get out of it faster.

 @pistol2ne: You could very well be right, especially if the vaccine efficacy is more like that for influenza than for say yellow fever. That said, a big issue locally, but I'd assume all over Europe, is that at best 50% of the people follow the rules and advice handed out by our equivalents of the CDC. There must be a huge amount of undetected community transmission because of this.

Time will tell wether we can control this, wether it's The Great Cull or wether this is just another repeat of the western hemisphere vs. the common cold. What's certain is that the current measures can't be adhered to for another year or more without flushing the economy (and the healthcare it pays for) as well as most people's sanity down the drain. We've had 5 days of curfew here and already every major city is seeing riots. I'd bet on rubber bullets by next week, and live rounds mid-Feb at the rate things are going.

 @vhdh666: TBH I wish I went for that internship at ETH Zürich in 2005 and buggered off. This place is an overpopulated swamp with a government that consistently demands 'solidarity' form the youngest generations, yet gives them the middle finger at every opportunity (housing, job prospects, college financing, the list goes on...). All to protect the 'investment' of people like me and older – generations that have truly had it all. The children shall inherit complete shit (especially since we live below sea level) so I kinda understand that they're now letting the place burn. It s not right, but we should have seen this coming.

Sunetra Gupta, professor of theoretical epidemiology at Oxford University. All of these scientists have differing opinions to the WHO narrative that you think is the ‘science’. Maybe turn off CNN and do some reading.

Facts and science? One of the things that I’ve learned is how little we know about these virusses and how they spread. You’d expect that there is a clear plan for these cases, but the governments are just winging it. You can’t really blame them, since the advice they get seems to ‘evolve’ over time. One example: first WHO recommends not to use masks, later they make a 180 and suddenly recommended you should wear them. I’m ok with new insights, but don’t claim that it’s all ‘facts and science’ what’s behind this.

California had very strict lockdowns, Florida is basically 100%. Now, if i go and scream see, facts and science that lockdowns don't work (which I do, to a a large degree) it's not actually "based in science", it's an opinion based on a statistic.

Point is, science is a tool and anyone using it as their bible is probably dumb af.

All I can say is, arguing without facts (okay, these days this term is looser than ratboy after a fatty and hangout with Phil atwill) and carefully considered information permiated by a person's common sense (and not just the ability to regurgitate that which you've read) leaves us in a hole, or better said a loop.
Karen/snowflake/libtard/carpetbagger.. a simple means to find one's way out of an argument. I personally don't want to argue without end about who or what you might represent. That being said, if you can engage me in an argument where we can both realize how wrong we can be about virtually everything, I'm ready.

I realize that as a society, the internet is still relatively new. I've had the anonymous arguments. I did it long before pinkbike had a comments section (yes, I was around before IRC).
None of this gives us an excuse to call each other names in lack of any argument to a person's standpoint.

Having used low-flow toilets in the US and having lived in Canada for most of my life, I have never, never, had as powerful a flush as I have had in Germany.

Sure, there's the "shelf" thing and you're wondering why there's so little water in the bowl, but the power of these shitters is really unbelievable.

 I would also have expected things to be OK by summer time. If everything goes to plan. I didn't check their calendar, and maybe most of the races were in spring?

 Guys, to judge the organizers keep in mind how much the virus has affected Italy (we were the second to be hit in the world) and the enduro areas are precisely those where there have been the deadest. So it's normal for organizers to want to be cautious until you get out of this thing.

 Makes far more sense to cancel EWS and run superenduro for only Italian based racers, international race community to enter Italy 4 times nothing can go wrong with that?

 What kind of bike do I need for superenduro....more expensive then my regular enduro bike or more travel? Need to plan for 2022. Will the grim doughnut be in proction by then? That could be a positive! YB on his 2022 GG GD doing the Superenduro series.

 I have no evidence one way or the other. I do, however, have experience with death. Even when people are old or prone to infection, I would rather not have them die to preserve my ability to have a party.

 Yes, it's only the beginning of this year's event cancellations I think. I personally doubt the olympics will go ahead this year, and I expect to see most local events cancelled or postponed as well. As a race organizer you no doubt have a better perspective on this than I do.

 @Skooks: I believe any event that has cross boarder entries are in danger but local events will move forward and actually be successful as some bigger names may focus on the homegrown series rather than take flights. .
