Pinkbike Advent Calendar 6 December 2015

The Superstar Components Nano-X pedal is a high-performance pedal manufactured in the UK. CNC machined from high-quality, extruded 6802 aluminium at our site in Lincoln, UK. Superstar Components use a high precision CNC machine which is loaded by a unique FANUC robot and turns out pedals at 24,000 RPM, 24 hours per day. Each pedal is then de-burred and rumbled before being sent to a UK subcontractor for high-quality colour anodising, before being returned to Superstar Components’ HQ for HD laser etched logos, before the pedal is assembled by our skilled technicians and boxed.

They boast a large 101mm x 110mm concave platform, with a slim 17mm profile, weighing in at only 440g per pair with forged steel axles fitted (standard). Each pedal axle uses two sealed bearings and two bushings for smooth running, and is supplied with two sets of pins in 8mm and 10mm lengths, so you can customise the pin pattern to match your riding style. Colours available are: black, blue, gold, gunmetal, lime, orange, purple, red, and silver. Proudly manufactured in the UK: supporting British industry and riding. Superstar Components Nano-X Pedals retail for £39.99/ $60.00.

I was ordering a set of these online, UK39 pounds is a good price for a pedal of this quality. Went to check out, got to the shipping page..... jesus h., UK 114 pounds (thats US 173 dollars) shipping to Thailand. Pass!
  • 50 0
Sorry its expensive, but we only ship with UPS courier to your country. The reason is that so many packages were getting "lost" that we worked out with normal Royal Mail Signed For mail it was not worth shipping anything at all. Plus its not fair on customers to wait 4 weeks to see if their lost parcel arrives, so with UPS its fully tracked and arrives in a couple of days. Unfortunately we arent a huge company sending thousands of packages outside of Europe so we cannot get the cheap rates some of the big boys of the industry can demand.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to fire them over, Neil (Superstar Components)
  • 12 0
If you shipped to the U.S. I bet that volume would greatly increase
  • 7 1
Quite understand, it is a shame though as those kind of shipping costs make it inviable to order anything. And you are right, it wouldn't be a pleasant experience to wait endlessly for a package that would never arrive, nobody would want that experience and if they did then you guys might unfairly get the blame.

Good one lol ... just buy directly from the Chinese HT

These pedals arent made by HT, we manufacture them completely inhouse in the UK.

Great, but shipping still sucks, 5€ for 12 rotor bolts that fit in a normal letter and then i find out its WITHOUT TRACKING ?!

12 days and the package still havent arrived across EU, its a new record.
  • 6 0
Yes, @Axxe - You know exactly what business advisors in the UK warned me about. Because you were there weren't you. And you obviously know everything too.

In your comments you have shown the reactionary nature of some Americans that causes these warnings to be given. Instead of politely commenting to Superstar, you launched into a tirade accusing them of somehow not knowing what they are doing. The fact you can't see that you handled yourself so poorly is only more fuel on the fire. It does not bode well for any of the people you do business with.

Take the fact people are downvoting everything you say to be a clue as to what people think about you.
  • 2 0
The statements made by @Axxe are his own and not indicative of Americans as a whole. Please don't lump me or anyone else in with this F*ckwhit.

I wish superstar would ship their products to The States. Those pedals look like a great deal for the price and their arctic finned kevlar brake pad set looks awesome too Frown
  • 2 0
I think they do ship to the states (certainly ship to Australia) but the prices for international shipping recently became extortionate since they changed courriers, so I can no longer afford to buy from Superstar. All their stuff is awesome though, kudos to the company!
  • 2 0
Check out Moove components too. They make some awesome pedals for a similar (and currently on sale, lower price).
  • 2 1
@karaknic They specifically state on their website that they cannot currently ship to the US due to "product insurance issues". Perhaps they will eventually sort it out, but at the moment it seems like I won't be able to order from them.

@ratedgg13 Thanks for that! It looks like they got some cool gear.
  • 2 0
check out uberbike components too, pretty sure they were the first out there with finned pads after shimano and they work so well!

the fins have a similar look/shape to shimano ones too

Looks at all Brits here coming to defend them. While the indisputable fact is that every other parts company in Britain can handle both insurance and shipping just fine.

What else they can't figure out?
  • 10 0
Of course we will defend them, they offer great parts at great prices, why would we care if some one in the USA can't get them ?

My Nukeproof Neutrons pedals going to he**, after one season...and im looking for some new one's. Maybe one of this...will see, if the shipping cost's are not to high to Slovenia.
  • 7 0
Slovenia is in the EU now so shipping for small items is £3 and large items is £5-8, so not very expensive.

PS One day soon ill get back to Slovenia, Kayaking in the Triglav Nationnal park was one of the best trips i have done. Such a nice country!

I wouldn't sell to the US&A either, too many ameritards wanting to sue and Saul Goodman characters waiting to fleece you.
  • 1 1
I tried ordering them from superstars site, but I continuously get error stating "Error in checkout. Please try again". Damn, I guess I am not getting these with that nice 10 pound discount then. Getting some Saints then...
  • 1 0
I just bought these online to replace my saints as they are cheap imho then i jump into pinkbike and see this doh
  • 2 0
I am curious to try these too. And for 30£ they seem like a bargain. I just don't know what prevents my order from their site, as I have never had problems before ordering from various internet shops.

I emailed them and I hope I can get these too. They look really nice.
  • 2 0
Yeah i've a friend who has a pair on one of his bikes and he swears they are the best he's used..If you don't get it rectified i've a pair of saint's i'm selling Smile
  • 1 0
have them in Northern Norway (with winter cycling), more than 3 years . Easy maintanance. Colours fade a bit after hard use but no worry.Intil now the best i've had.
  • 3 1
I have these pedals, highly recommended! But Superstar's prices have been slowly creeping up over the last few years Frown
  • 3 1
Prices on everything from the far east have been creeping up the last few years, it's almost like they control 99% of all manufacturing or something. It's quite ironic that some of the cheapest things Superstar sell now are the parts they make themselves, I bet when they started a decade ago they didn't think made in UK would ever be more viable than picking stuff out of a catalogue.
  • 2 0
Bought the old nanos for 37 GBP two years ago, they're 39.99 now, but they're UK made. Doesn't seem that much to me, for the best pedals ever. By the way, they're on sale today for 30 GBP! Don't know about the other products, but if you monitor their facebook page you constantly get good deals on everything.
  • 21 1
Hello our nano pedals were £42.99 and then we reduced them to £36.99 because of competition from other brands copying our sales model, we held this for around 7 years even though costs to us were rising constantly. We stopped importing the pedals from Taiwan for lead time, cost and quality reasons and decided to manufacture them inhouse in the UK in our Lincoln CNC machining facility.

So the new Nano X pedals use a bigger custom extrusion, are manufactured in the UK, have higher quality finish and parts such as Quadring seals plus include 2 sets of custom pins and extra spares... all for pretty much the same price. Im sure you cannot get a similar product anywhere else for such good value and then we give you guys 25% off today!

Plenty more UK made parts launching in 2016, all at great Superstar prices.

Do you ship to the US yet?
  • 12 1
Sorry European insurers are really twitchy about the USA, due to the reputation for suing each other. It costs tens of thousands of dollars a year to add US to our places we can ship our products to so its not cost effective currently sorry

Bollocks. All UK manufacturers do ship to US just fine. You are the only one who can not figure it out. The only logical explanation is that you know that your stuff is much less reliable than all others and you are afraid of stricter liability. Really, that must be the only possible reason. Or you use uncle Bob for an insurer.
  • 20 1
Feel free to pop over here and tell that to insurers!

The best way of dealing with the issue is do what most European companies do, you set up a completely separate US company who deals with US customers using US insurance. Then if anything happens that company gets closed and the main company carries on. As a direct retailer based in Europe the US is actually a tiny customer base, which has plenty of other retailers looking after it already. We arent interested in being a world dominating corporate!

But at the end of the day we have enough on our to do list before we start to look at setting stuff like that up. It has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of our products (which is pretty damn high if you knew about it)

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to fire them over, Neil (Superstar Components)

Do you guys have any problem accepting payment from the US and shipping to a UK address?
I inquired about it a while back but never received a response.
  • 3 1
@Kubaner I believe there are freight forwarding services you could use. I'm really glad that Superstar finally cleared this up, I've been asking for a long time to get their components out here, but couldn't seem to get to the bottom of why they couldn't ship here. Thanks SuperstarComponents for giving us a definitive answer on the issues with bringing stuff here! Sorry that we're a bunch of sue-happy f*ckers! Wink

This is one prize I could really use! I have three bikes, and one set of chromag scarab pedals to swap between bikes

If they can not figure out basic logistics, one is left to wonder what else they can't figure out. Maybe procuring good aluminum? Or bearings?
  • 7 1
@Axxe - Shut up you clown. Superstar have already corrected you and made you look a fool in your earlier comment. So shut up for crying out loud. It is common knowledge that Americans love to sue. I started a small business and was warned about that when it comes to sending items to America. No other country had a warning issued for it.

flag Axxe (Dec 6, 2015 at 21:12) (Below Threshold)
The only clowns here are you and others who do not know what they are talking about. Warned? I do business in US, I know exactly what is problematic and what is not. And pretty much everybody in the world with a clue can do business here just fine.
  • 4 0
Axxe, looks like your the one loosing out here pal, superstar has chosen not to include america in thier sales as a way of safeguarding thier business. You have plenty of other options to choose from but your amped up because you cannot get the superstar items, so stop trying to questions the quality of items that you so greatly want. Your not fooling anyone
  • 2 0
And also.............they're just pedals for crying out loud!
  • 1 0
@Axxe you are a clown, even if your point was valid you don't need to make it 4-5 times. Don't get excited, your point is invalid. So what a company doesn't do business in the US in NO WAY does that make them inferior, you on the other hand? Totally different story.
