PRESS RELEASE: Sweet Skills
The early-bird deadline for our 2020 ladies’ backcountry camps is fast approaching.
Based out of Pemberton, BC, we are leading the charge in guiding ladies into the backcountry with amazing adventures all over British Columbia and Yukon.
All of our camps are led by our founder, Sylvie Allen who attributes the success of the camps, and the return of clientele trip after trip, to the fiercely dedicated crew of compassionate and inspiring coaches. After leading backcountry camps for 6 years, and with decades of coaching experience in their pockets, the coaches at Sweet Skills have dialed it in – and now offer unique mountain bike experiences well outside your own backyard.
Eight camps are offered at stunning locations across British Columbia and Yukon: South Chilcotin Mountains just north of Pemberton, Sol Mountain near Revelstoke, the famous Retallack Lodge, and Whitehorse-Carcross. While these trips are amazing “local” experiences, the Sweet Skills season opens and closes with collective international trips to Croatia and Peru with the world-renowned Big Mountain Bike Adventures.
Annual adventures to the Chilcotin Mountains should be top of the list for any passionate mountain biker. Expansive views, pure wilderness, and endless singletrack can be found in either of the 2 camps taking place in July.
The Explorer Camp is offered to all levels of intermediate riders who want to explore backcountry riding for the first time. Complete with a float plane drop, a night at a backcountry cabin, a night in the deluxe Tyax lodge and tons of on-trail coaching.
When intermediate and up riders are keen for more, the Bike ‘n’ Bend Camp offers a lodge-based adventure featuring 3 fantastic rides, a float plane drop, epic views on a pedal over a mountain pass, apres-ride yoga and tons of on-trail coaching.
There’s no doubt, Sol Mountain Lodge is a gem hidden deep in the Monashee Mountains. It’s a magical place where winding single track takes riders up into the surrounding mountains with stunning alpine meadows, tall peaks, and fun descents. The feature rich terrain offers an incredible learning experience for all levels of riders along the well-maintained alpine singletrack. For 2020, Sweet Skills has extended this trip to 3 nights to give riders an opportunity to really soak it all in. And, the trip now includes a short hike for an alpine swim and a paddle by canoe. With its peaceful lodge, gourmet food, yoga and breathtaking beauty, this camp is a must do.
Retallack is a downhiller’s dream. And, the ultimate place to improve your gravity-fed skills. Shuttles give riders the opportunity to relax on the way up and feel the flow of the smooth jumps and berms on the way down. The cherry-on-top? A heli-drop that takes you to a stunning alpine peak. At the end of the day riders enjoy apres by a babbling brook before moving to the cozy lodge with deluxe rooms, food, games, stories and drinks at the bar. Intermediates learning to jump are welcome alongside experienced jumpers and advanced riders. Downhillers won’t want to skip this one.
Back by popular demand – The Yukon! Riding in Yukon showcases hundreds of kilometers of pristine trails and vast northern views. This 4-day retreat based out of Boreale Lodge offers 2 amazing riding destinations in Whitehorse and Carcross with coaching that rivals the best in BC. All levels are welcome to join Sweet Skills to learn jumping, master cornering, try tech-y rock and rolls, and enjoy the flow trails. Whether riders choose summer solstice in June or northern lights in September, everyone will enjoy the stellar alpine views and turquoise waters. It’s a must-do trip on any mountain biker’s tick list.
