Ride Faster and with More Confidence Ride Faster and with More Confidence
Would you give me 15 minutes a day if I swore that it would help you ride faster, longer and with more confidence on the trail? If you don't have 15 minutes a day to devote to some sort of workout then are you really serious about being a better rider? Why am I starting this article with a bunch of questions?

The Best Cardio Training You Aren't Doing The Best Cardio Training You Aren't Doing
Jumping rope is a great cardio exercise for mountain bikers because it builds lower leg power and endurance and forces you to maintain good posture in the process.

3 Steps to Faster Corners 3 Steps to Faster Corners
Railing corners is one of the Holy Grails of trail riding - riders who can do it flow faster and those who can't complain about their tires and head tube angle.

TRX Training for Mountain Biking TRX Training for Mountain Biking
Few pieces of equipment are as valuable to the mountain biker as a suspension trainer. I'll admit that when they first came out I was a bit skeptical and thought they were more of a gimmick, like standing on a BOSU Ball, than actually filling a genuine need.

However, since getting my hands a couple not a day goes by in my facility that they are not being used.

Adding in a 15 Minute Trail Rider Tune Up on days that you can't make it to the gym is a great way to "optimally deal with reality". These workouts can help you improve mobility, increase core strength and develop body awareness in one compact package.

Here is how they work...

Split Stance Exercises for Faster Cornering Split Stance Exercises for Faster Cornering
One of the things I've realized is that being able to ride switch-foot is not an option, it is a must for good trail riding. Besides it being good for when you do find your feet switched for some reason on the trail it also helps to fight imbalances - you'd be amazed at how bad riding with the same foot forward all the time is for your hips and lower back. However, the most important thing in my book is how it helps you corner better.

Cardio vs. Endurance Training Cardio vs. Endurance Training
Let me ask you a question - Do you want better cardio? Or do you want to be able to ride harder, faster and longer on the trail? Think these two goals are the same thing? Perhaps not…

The problem lies in the confusion caused by the terms "cardio training" and "endurance training" being used interchangeably. The truth is that they mean entirely different things. Understanding this difference is important in order to know what you really need to get to the next level.

5 Exercises to Help You Rip Corners Faster 5 Exercises to Help You Rip Corners Faster
Few things separate great riders from average ones like the ability to corner. Being able to glide into a turn, avoid overcooking it and sail out with maximum speed is a thing of beauty to watch. For a lot of riders it seems like voodoo black magic and it seems impossible for them to figure out how to go that fast in a corner without washing out or wrecking.

The good news is that cornering ability isn't magical and you can significantly improve your speed with a few pointers and some training.

Core Training for Mountain Biking Core Training for Mountain Biking
Core training is big buzzword in mountain biking today. It seems that the cure to everything is better "core strength". But what exactly is the core and why should a mountain biker care how strong it is? What is the best way to train the core to help you ride with more skill and endurance? What are some exercises you can start using today to improve your core strength and riding?

I'm glad you asked. Here are some strategies I use to help riders like Aaron Gwin ride with more strength and confidence.

Unilateral Training with Aaron Gwin Unilateral Training with Aaron Gwin
See Team Yeti's Aaron Gwin demonstrate several exercises every rider should be using to get faster on the trail.

One of the best ways to improve your riding is to include a heavy dose of single limb training, also known as unilateral training. While bilateral training is better known and also important, there are several unique advantages that unilateral training offers that makes it a must to include in your program. Before I get into their 4 main advantages, though, let me clear up a common misconception.

One of the biggest concerns I get from mountain bikers about adding strength training into their regimen is that they do not have time for it. Family, work, personal lives and (most importantly) riding all add up leaving some of us with less than 2 hours per week for any other type of training. Because most programs (including my Ultimate MTB Workout Program) require 2-3 hours per week to complete, these riders end up doing nothing.

Getting started – Base training

If you haven’t put in the effort to get fit this off season, now is the time. Mountain biking is an extremely technical sport so even if you are the fittest person in the world, it doesn’t mean you’ll be winning world cups. But, it will play a huge role in helping you ride longer, faster, stronger and most importantly, recover quicker.
