Press Release: Tannus International

Tannus International announces its exclusive worldwide patent on Armour, a tire Insert available in both tubeless and tubed versions. Designed to protect your tube from puncture and pinch flats; increase bike performance and reduce rim strikes.

Drawing from 35 years of experience, Tannus International has spent years developing a product that enhances the ride of e-bikes, mountain bikes, and gravel bikes alike. Using Aither, a globally patented blend of polymers that is both shock absorbent and lightweight, the Tannus Armour Inserts intend to provide a smooth and stress-free ride at a lower price than the competition.

Tannus Armour cradles the tube with 15mm of puncture protection. Additional features include increased sidewall support, vibration damping, and run flat capability. Equally as important as the aforementioned features, Tannus Armour is easily installed and weighs only 150g per insert. Tannus Armour is available in 5 different sizes: 700C (622), 27.5”, 29”, 26”and 20”

Tannus Armour Tubeless offers 20mm of rim protection and vibration damping. This insert was built to offer the aggressive rider with a progressive riding platform. Tannus Armour comes in 3 different sizes: 29”, 27.5” and the newly released gravel 700cc version.

Originally founded in South Korea in 2003 by Chemical Engineer Youngki Lee, Tannus now has over 70 employees whose key focus is R&D, production and Asian distribution. Following the success and evolution of the Aither compound, Tannus International was established as a joint venture between Youngki Lee and Jazz Walia with its office based in London. Jazz Walia, the CEO and Co-founder of Tannus International, has over 20 years’ experience of the bicycle industry and has managed Tannus’ international distribution operation since 2013 with Armour being in incredible demand. Tannus International now distributes to OEMs, retailers and cyclists in over 20 countries worldwide.

The global Armour patent includes Insert technology that wraps up into the rim sidewall. This unique technology ensures tube protection from the bottom of the tire to the rim sidewall. In recognition of the company’s work to originate, secure and commercialise its IP over the years, the South Korean government awarded Tannus the “IP-R&D Outstanding Institution Award” in 2019, effectively making them the “national champions” of the domestic cycling industry.

Tannus, its legal advisors and supporters at the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) have analysed over 60,000 tyre-related patents that have been filed and granted since 2016. Ensuring the company has a complete view of the existing tyre patent landscape to strengthen its position as an authority on puncture-free riding especially in the E-Bikes and MTB markets, making it a matter of time till the Armour patent was to be established globally.
