Team Ridgecrest Kids of SoCal

Jan 21, 2009
by Keith Christman
While most of the mountain biking world is taking a break from riding because of white blankets of snow, here in SoCal Team Ridgecrest Kids are just getting started for the up coming racing season with sunny 70 degree riding conditions.

Learn a bit more about us inside:Team Ridgecrest kids is a local biking team located in Ridgecrest California which was started about year ago. Many of you might of recognize us by the red tiger print Fox gear that we wear and maybe you have even seen us at a few Southern California races like Fontana, Woodward, and Sea Otter just to mention a few. We are made up of 9 passionate riders (Todd Layfield, Keith Christman, Rob O'Gara, Brice Reider, Sean Malone, Jeff McCarthy, Kyle Smith, Jacob Martin, and Fabian De Los Santos) that love biking maybe a little too much and continue to progress pushing each other.

We also have been busy building some riding spots over the past four years so we could have something local to ride. Here are a few pictures of a few spots:

And recently the team has gone through a hardtail, DJing faze where dirt jumping has been the new focus, here are some pics to prove it:

So maybe we will see you at a race this season and if you see us say hi because we are always down to chit chat with someone that loves biking. Oh and I almost forgot here is our latest vid:

Coming from the person that wrote this blog a few of you so called fellow riders are irratating. I think some how you have forgotten the point of pinkbike, it is simply a site to share your expereinces of biking and why you throw your leg over the saddle of a bike. Biking has never been a place to brag and cut other riders down, it is supposed to be an uplifting sport and an escape from the superficial world. And what do i get when i log on a site that is supposed to have fellow riders that share the same feelings as me, instead i get to listen to punk kids that are trying to prove to others on the internet how much better they are. So quit hiding behind the computer screen and treat people like you are actually out on a ride because if you are truly better than others you wouldnt be worried about proving that. You would be more stoked to see people progressing at there own level and out riding because they love the sport. So I would rather go riding with my fellow team and have the best time of my life every ride then ride with someone better than me just to have them cut me down every time i put my feet on the pedals. Figure out why you ride thats my advice.

I think those guys that slam what they don't deem to be good enough should have their say too...on PR*#KBIKE...all day, everyday, all pr*#ks!!!

maybe the moral to the story is that these kids love to ride, got together, got organized, and now they have something to show for it. its not about wether or not their killing it. geeze people leave the negative comments out for once. if you all think your better than get something organized and prove it.

Its good for Socal riding. All the Canadians and Europeans have a much bigger scene therfore a hell of alot better places to ride. They dont have to deal with the typical SOCAL BRO on his dirtbike tearing up what you have built. We just need a bigger scene over hear. But I can say this its about 70 degrees out side right now.

Is it wrong for me to not be super impressed? The riding was average, nothing out of the ordinary.
  • 5 0
Agreed, but maybe us 'nucks are just a bit on the insane side. Wink
  • 1 1
i agree im not that impressed, unless these kids are all about 11 years old
  • 1 1
For all of you who commented about how not impressed you are with our riding let me tell you. I have looked at your profiles and would have not commented "im not impressed", because it doesnt matter whether your impressed or not. We had this posted to show who we are and what we do, not to show off to anyone. So im sorry that your not impressed and we are going to continue riding and progressing while you comment on how unimpressed you are about peoples riding lifes. But since you mentioned it I dont see you doing backflips, tailwhips, bombing down trails, 360s or anything special so you have no room to say "IM NOT IMPRESSED"

Sorry for getting your pants all wedged up there, but as a front page article I was expecting something. Not that I don't find your riding impressive, I thought you guys were pro's of some sorts because you had front paged, and then I saw your video and I was like oh, not what I was thinking of. I can get that you have fun on your bike as do I, the front page hype sort of gives it a skewed perspective.

never said you were bad just that as the dude above me said i was expecting more from a front page article honestly i think youre all pretty good riders just maybe not what i had been expecting and not quite up to par with the majority of front page stories and the fact that your all friends who have fun on their bikes i dont know anyone who rides with friends and dont have fun on their bikes so i didnt really see the point in this

NorCalNomad, did you even look at their bikes. NOT one was overly nice or anything, they were just riding average stuff. Who cares if they didn't pay for it, their stuff isn't even nice. And look at their trailer, I spot at least 2 Konas......

My close friend moved to ridgcrest. So I took his 5 year old son / my adopted nephew to the local bike shop to get him in the scene out there. some of the older riders were in the shop and I was met with the worst attitudes I have ever seen. I hope you kids are not like the older guys I met at the shop. My nephew hasn't touched a bike since.
