The historical race here in Fort William - Scottland - is in the books. It was a tough one for our team but we are all still in one piece. It sure wasn't what we expected and what we came here for after the successful french cup the week before the World Cup where we were able to take the overall lead. Marine had a great race though and we are stoked to see her on the podium!

We are now on our way to Leogang / Austria for the third round of the UCI Mountainbike World Cup and another weekend of racing.

The YT Mob

Despite a great start to his finals run in Fort William, Aaron Gwin had an uncharacteristic over the handlebar crash in a section of the track that took out his teammate, Angel Suarez, nearly an hour earlier. Despite the warm and sunny conditions, some sections of the track were still suffering from high levels of moisture and low levels of grip, thanks to heavy overnight storms. Aaron still managed to finish in 20th place and retains the series lead.

Commencal/Vallnord Riding Addiction

This World Cup was absolutely amazing, incredible and fantastic! Amaury Pierron won his first ever World Cup! After Remi Thirion in 2013 (who finished 12th yesterday!), it's the second time we have an Elite Men's victory in the team history! Myriam Nicole and Thibaut Dapréla finished 2nd and keep to the white jersey on their shoulders! All these good results achieved by our riders gave us the honour to be Team of the Day!

Polygon UR

The beginning of the season was far from ideal for the Polygon UR Team: Mick and Tracey walked away injured from Losinj. Alex had damaged his shoulder in a freak incident at an IXS race and Kenta hadn't regained all of his strength yet from his broken humerus. We were all longing for some repentance at round 2! In Scotland, all riders raced at a good pace and even if Mick didn't make it into the finals, Alex and Kenta got some solid results and Tracey made it back onto the podium with a crash-free race run. More to come in Leogang next weekend.

Trek Factory Racing

Once again on the first weekend of June the team makes the annual pilgrimage up to Fort William for the Mountain Bike World Cup. Last year Gee was out with injury and Rach unfortunately picked one up during practice. So it was good to have the full crew back it once again for the biggest race of the year.

Most relevant video to the finals was from @bencathro explaining why we saw who we did...and who didn't see...but sure as hell should have:

And holy crap does the new protected rider format FOKK the independent and privateers so damn hard!

Man, I need to subscribe to Cathro. He's awesome for us dudes that don't know all of the technicalities. Thanks for that link.

@Leppah: Yep. He is still learning how to do the things he does and yet is way ahead of all the other reporter's in some.of his tie ins for graphics and analysis.

Kind of hope he gets a gig covering the races...kind of hope he does his own thing and whatever Patreon is....pays him his worth

@ridesmoothbro: shhhh. Alter ego. Just like you don't speed around in your vape pen equipped WRX.

Wow; only 5 (non-protected) guys in the live stream? That's pretty pathetic.

@bizutch: Patreon is a crowdfunding platform that has a subscription model, so if you want to make sure the man gets paid...you need to pay the man!

@RichardJBos: thx. Didn't feel like researching it.

@mi-bike: Yeah, I posted someplace else here as I went down the list of races from last year to see how the live feed would have played out with this rule in place last year.

I just used Neko as my main example. He wouldn't have made any of the 1st 4 live feeds if my math was correct despite qualifying top 20 in the 1st 2 rounds, finishing 7th in both, being ranked in the top 10 in points for the first 4 rounds. I may be off by maybe 1 appearance because I had to ballpark it.

But yeah, we're gonna see the same 18-22 riders in every single feed this year. My estimate is there will only be 3 riders getting on the live feed that don't have a "reservation".

It's kinda interesting how nobody likes Leogang for it being one line and bikepark-y but Fort William is everyone's favorite classic being, wait for it...one line, not steep, with one technical forest section and a crazy-pedalling-boring-to-watch motorway.

We pinkbikers are a damn weird crowd Big Grin

 I love Leogang track

Every DH WC ROUND should be like Champery / VDS / vallnord ... tracks where the race could be won chainless because there is not a place to pedal: we want STEEP and GNAR
  • 17 2
They could race in the parking lot and I would still watch.
  • 10 0
@RedBurn: Rachel may have won this race chainless if she didn't crash.

 @PaliGap1983: I feel 4 u, no life...
me neither...
  • 9 1
@RedBurn: the WC is about selecting the worlds most all rounded DH riders, and scrubbing and pedaling ( id say) is part of it.
so there should be SOME bike parky courses, but ft bill. is far from natural...

Leogang is a new school bike park... fort william is an old school bike park. Both boring.

Racers hate on Ft. William all the time... off camera. They don't want to say anything on camera because of its respected history and awesome people involved at the venue. The track is far from their favorite, but it at least it flows better than Leogang.

I think both Ft William and Leogang are pretty lame tracks. I prefer to watch races on tracks like Vallnord, Lourdes or Val di Sole.

 @RedBurn: Gwin won Leogang chainless...

Can we please have Angel in the fantasy league pinkbike?

after his first split he for sure deserves to be on there!!

I have a feeling Martin Whiteley is behind this new rule. I really want's WC DH to be ultra exclusive like F1 racing. They guy is totally opposed the to scrappy privateers.

He said he was one of the backers of this rule and stated his reasons why as well as his backing of the 60 rider limit. Both are in his Vital Inside Line Podcast

@bizutch: That was a great podcast, very informative, just finished it. Thanks for pointing it out.
