Durable riding jeans, for when you’re chafing the dream.

Those 249€ jeans will be making my wallet have to tighten up a few belt holes

For the price of those jeans I could buy a normal pair of jeans use them for 2-3 years before they get torn up then get another pair and repeat multiple times. That’s like 10 years worth of years. Plus I’d probably lose those jeans at one point or another and have a mental breakdown.

@Shred-BC: You're looking at the motorcycle ones. The cycle ones are 139 Euros. Not cheap but seems fairly standard for an outdoor trouser.
  • 3 0
@Shred-BC: £10 Walmart jeans. They’re stretchy like jogging pants and when you fall and rip them they only cost £10.

Don't see how that bike stand thing beats a hook on the wall.
  • 51 0
It was designed by a student in a rental apartment/home. For any renters who aren't allowed to drill holes in their walls, it's a nice, space-saving solution.

Your mums a hook on the wall
  • 1 0
When I had an apartment, it was two 2x4s in an "L" shape with a hook in that instead of the wall.

Ah yes, the $5 plastic for $40.

 5 plus 40 = 45....am I wrong???
  • 10 0
 Material cost ≠ production cost.
  • 4 2
But material cost of plastic isn't anywhere close to $5. Truthfully, it's closer to $0.05.
  • 10 1
Material cost + production cost ≠ company overheads, packaging, distribution costs.
  • 2 4
@redrook: And yet somehow a ton of other companies manage all those fixed costs to sell a very similar product for less...pretty sure that's what nickfranko's original point, no?
  • 5 1
@noapathy: Yes, my point was that the bigger costs are often other things not related to the production of the product, not that a small strap to hold stuff to your bike should cost much.
  • 1 4
@redrook: Yep, it's called profit. Nothing wrong with it if people are willing to pay.
  • 5 1
@noapathy: Again, my point wasn't about the cost of this item, it was that there are also other costs and they can be bigger than the actual production.
  • 6 1
@noapathy: In one comment you seem to be saying that people sell the same thing for less, which explicitly implies that this is overpriced. But in the next comment you're saying that profit doesn't matter if people are willing to pay it. Are you coming or going bud?
  • 5 3
 @noapathy: Calm down princess.

flag TrailFeatures (Oct 12, 2021 at 10:17) (Below Threshold)
 @redrook: This math checks out.
  • 1 4
@rbeach: Nope. Simply the truth. It's obviously way overpriced, but whatevs if people buy it with open eyes.

Sorry if the truth is unpopular these days. smh
  • 4 1
@noapathy: Lol you're not laying down any truth. You are simultaneously saying "this costs too much" and "this doesn't cost too much". Both of those statements can't be true simultaneously. Make your mind up.
  • 4 1
@noapathy: That's not what you said though, as has been pointed out, you said it was overpriced and then you said that it wasn't if people were willing to pay it.

Everyone knows people will buy things which are overpriced, nobody cares, if you think that's news to anyone you need to lurk more often here.

And by what measure is it overpriced? By your logic if people are willing to pay for something then it's worth the cost. So therefore how do you determine that it's overpriced?
  • 1 4
 *doublepost delete*
  • 1 4
@rbeach: Also, I never said it doesn't cost too much. Don't put words in my mouth. Just because someone's willing to pay too much doesn't make it a good value.
  • 4 1
@noapathy: "it's called profit. Nothing wrong with it if people are willing to pay."

Sure sounds like you did.
  • 4 1
@rbeach: Hey don't put the words he said back into his mouth, that's totally unfair.
  • 1 4
@rbeach: You only hear what you want to hear. Go back to school.
  • 4 0
@noapathy: LOL he quoted you, it's right there!
  • 1 4
@Greeta25: I can read. Apparently you guys like to read things into what people say to argue about random BS. Instead of sitting in front of a keyboard and giving it even a second thought, I went out and had a good ride. Hope you can do the same.
  • 4 1
@noapathy: Lol yeah, imagine reading what someone says in what they say. Craaazy. I guess "Nothing wrong with it" means something different to you. Apparently you like to argue about random BS too otherwise you wouldn't have replied Wink It's ok, some people are simple, you can't help it.
  • 3 1
@Greeta25: Standard formula of the online idiot. Go into argument mode and act condescending, people disagree with you or point out that you make no sense. Then you go into attack mode, and when that doesn't work you say you don't care or that you have better things to do etc. etc. It's just the usual thing from these types of people. If he hadn't gone into douche mode in the first place we wouldn't even be here. But PB is full of these toxic cretins.
  • 1 2
 @rbeach: Pot, kettle. Bye Felicia.

Finally releases downtime podcast in text, but it’s behind a paywall
  • 3 0
@downtimepodcast: Ordered it (or actually, the subscription) somewhere last week. Tracking says "Item Processed by Whistl - Weight Captured", whatever that means. Podcasts don't quite work for me as they take too much concentration to do something else simultaneously yet take too little concentration to maintain focus. The transcription is great for me as I sure do appreciate these interviews!

@vinay: nice one! This batch should ship out on Monday. I hope you enjoy getting stuck in for a good read. That's really interesting to hear how you feel about the listening experience, I'm sure you're not alone. Hopefully EP means we can take Downtime to more of the mountain bike world!

Do you have any Western Canadian Distributors?
  • 1 0
@lumpy873: no we are a very small family (rider) owned company from Scotland and Seattle. We inquired about it but way out of our range for a startup company like ours.
  • 1 0
@tankthegladiator: Hi Tank, we don't have distro's yet but if you want to inquire email mike@sender-rampsusa.com and we can chat about how to get our products to your customers. We would love to be in Canada and are working hard to make it a reality. Exchange rates are tough coming from GBP to USD and the CAN dollars. We can work with you on Canadian market, just hit us up!

It feels weird that Pinkbike is advertising a tube strap that is sold by Amazon. I thought it looked cool at first, but anybody who has Canadian distribution listed as "Amazon" on their website is a big turnoff.

They have a new USA distro called Blacklist. I'm running some Granite stuff and can say it's well designed.

Fine thread nut and bolt. Some washers and a few sockets and old bearings do wonders
  • 1 0
Doesnt need to be fine thread, just get a medium and large washers. Sockets and old bearings do the rest yep push pull.

durable flexible riding jeans..... $30. they last me 3 seasons.

. find 'em!
  • 1 0
yeah those jeans are way too expensive. What brand do you find is good for riding? The past couple pairs I've gotten from value village are too tight around the glutes, too baggy at the ankles, and have no stretch

If your mountain bike runs Shimano SPD pedals then you've got four perfectly good bottle openers already...

A mountain bike is basically a highly portable bottle opener.

"Inexpensive" bearing press  ... I'll continue using a sledge hammer
  • 5 0
That sounds sketchy even by my standards, which are a rusty bench vise with magnetic soft jaws and a socket set.
  • 3 0
@ryetoast: surprised more peeps don't do this...or just simple buy a threaded rod and some hardware
  • 1 0
@artistformlyknowasdan: is it that techs/easy to fail at pushing bearings in or is it pretty easy to do with the rod?
  • 2 0
@Svinyard: it's so easy - years ago I naively bought the official Santa Cruz bearing tools for my heckler, and the bearing press I got was literally just a threaded rod and some cups. I've used it on every bike since, with sockets to match the bearing size. Santa Cruz approved!

Two pieces of wood, slowly run over it with your truck tire
  • 3 0
@Svinyard: super easy, rod, washers and you already have old crappy bearing to use too. If you need one side to torque a wrench on just snug up 2 bolts together. It's literally what these tools are but for a fraction of the cost.
  • 11 0
@bocomtb: I would strongly suggest NOT buying from me...
