Returning champions, crazed crowds, sharp rocks, blown tyres, and there was sun. Ireland once again had it all. The Wicklow mountains welcomed the Enduro World Series with open arms and they were surely rewarded.

I was a marshal there today an after 600 km of driving to get up and back to the race village , I'm still buzzing what a day. Every stage I was on an riders past the lads gave it 99 percent when Greg passed everyone went mad Marshalls spectators everyone one . What a day . Best day of 2016 for me by an Irish mile . Well done Greg well done lad .

My ears are still buzzing. Sorry everyone who was around for my oversized cowbell!
(May 15, 2016 at 14:04)
Stunning scenery, crazy crowds, a local win and a win out of "retirement"... EWS wins again
(May 15, 2016 at 14:24)
Could she be a threat to Atherton if she tried DH?
(May 15, 2016 at 14:32)
: If T-Mo did rtn to DH then I would have to say yes.
(May 15, 2016 at 14:33)
: that's something I'd like to see.
(May 15, 2016 at 14:56)
: fwiw, she won the british dh nationals 7x, dh world champs, dh wc overall x2, and 16 world cup dh races.
(May 15, 2016 at 16:16)
I'd love to see Atherton do an enduro!
(May 15, 2016 at 16:55)
: now that would be fresh
(May 16, 2016 at 9:42)
: They'd just burn up, all they know i how to give 100% of a couple minutes, plus Dan tried and gave up...
Don't get me wrong they're still quick though I've ridden with Rachy!
(May 17, 2016 at 11:03)
: Sam Hill came second in EWS Ireland.
(May 17, 2016 at 11:50)
: In stark contrast to UCI DH races the EWS format and particularly the trails' design/style/flavour can vary a lot depending on the event organiser, local rules and terrain, see Bariloche (Blenky) vs Corral (Vouilloz) for instance. Now, 7 quite short (and some of them very steep/technical/rocky) special stages as we had in Wicklow seem to me particularly well suited for DH athletes. But I reckon one of the main wining factors could be the local knowledge (terrain/tracks), specially in such a limited enduro-friendly topography, no wonder Greg has won there twice in a row but hasn't gone that well in all other EWS events, don't get me wrong, Greg is a great athlete and his win absolutely deserved but that's the context. On the other hand, as many others have already observed, I'd love to see Richie Rude racing against Bruni and co. Cheers.

Sam Hill just cruising ,and still ................,with flats ,ok now what. Go Sam
(May 15, 2016 at 15:26)
And with others flats too...
(May 15, 2016 at 16:57)
no doubt Sam Hill second place, dang!
(May 16, 2016 at 11:56)
: By that logic if Sam didn't crash or flat he would have won a few dozen more races, several more titles, and two more world championships.
(May 17, 2016 at 15:24)
: I m agree with you... i m the happiest one to see Sam second, even first if possible. Just liked the play of words actally makes sence too.
(May 18, 2016 at 4:51)
: fair play, k.
(May 15, 2016 at 14:28)
Only the best From this wee island, great to see the irish put their stamp on pro mtb with both the riders and crowds performance. Greg is the man
great to see such a genuine bloke doing so well
(May 15, 2016 at 19:40)
0:45 is just nuts! To think that these guys can carry that speed and steel remain inside their comfort zones is so humbling and inspiring!
(May 16, 2016 at 4:03)
Absolutely amazing how effortless they looked on that section - I am stunned!
And Yoann Barelli to say that Rude is nuts is something to thing about
(May 16, 2016 at 4:13)
Richie makes those rocky drops look like the pavement!
(May 16, 2016 at 1:56)
Not forgetting our own Robin Seymour, coming first in the Male Masters on a borrowed bike, XC skid lid, no elbow or shin/knee pads and nothing to carry the sambos in.

Did anyone else notice that Maes was riding on the rim 32 seconds into the video? And still railing!!!
(May 15, 2016 at 16:49)
We were standing about halfway down Stage 4 and Maes came down on his rear rim absolutely pinned. He hit a jump full speed and railed the following corner. Almost as fast as everyone with a tyre on the back. Truly a sight to behold.
(May 15, 2016 at 14:54)
Do you even clip, bro ?
(May 15, 2016 at 21:19)
Is there anyplace one could watch more than 1 minute of EWS? Forgive my ignorance.
(May 16, 2016 at 2:12)
Wait 24 hours and then check PB front page again. We aren't sleeping till its done!
(May 16, 2016 at 9:12)
: thanks brother, I'm just anxious to get some more video on this side of the pond.
(May 15, 2016 at 14:01)
(May 15, 2016 at 16:08)
I'm starting to form the opinion that Enduro racing is more aerobically taxing than even XC.
(May 15, 2016 at 17:05)
definitely in the running, especially when a practice day is included.
(May 16, 2016 at 16:47)
Killer edit! Enduro is getting bigger.... A size of crowd big enough for major heckling.
(May 15, 2016 at 14:02)
How much will airline tickets to Wicklow be next year?
(May 15, 2016 at 14:08)
I'll be selling them Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap out lad! I got me some small cheap to run planes!
(May 15, 2016 at 14:20)
(May 15, 2016 at 14:06)
can any one say what yoann said? couldn't understand, only martin maes, richie rude and nuts
(May 15, 2016 at 14:17)
Everybody getting flat tyre.
(May 15, 2016 at 15:21)
And Ritchie Rude is nuts which is really funny coming from Yoann!
(May 15, 2016 at 16:40)
: He said Rude is nuts ???????????? rumor has it Rude was pushing it harder than anyone else
(May 16, 2016 at 1:54)
: Yeh he had a flat on stage 2 and lost 30sec, after two more stages he was just 16 back or something like that
(May 15, 2016 at 14:08)
(May 15, 2016 at 15:22)
Believe he destroyed a rear wheel and got a penalty for changing it. Know for certain he got a 6 minute penalty and Maes received a 5 minute penalty for changing his rear wheel.
(May 16, 2016 at 1:28)
Well I'm getting pretty tired of this race update. Sitting nicely in 4th early in the day, then a rock decided to slice open my tyre. I limped through the rest of stage 3 and 4. Took big time penalties to get some new parts, but got back out there after lunch to have some fun and experience the insane Irish supporters some more.
(May 16, 2016 at 11:59)
Its ridiculous that changing wheels gives a time penalty. The flat is a penalty enough. Frame, fork, suspension, sure. But wheels? Come on.
(May 15, 2016 at 14:13)
Thats an intense minute
