Last Wednesday might be one of your favorite days of the year if you live in the Northern hemisphere and enjoy riding bikes after work in warm weather. June 21st was the summer solstice, otherwise known as the longest day of the year, or the day that many mountain bikers choose for their biggest and most difficult rides. For some, it's the best day for the dumbest adventures, which brings us to today's episode that sees Matt Beer, Sarah Moore, Mike Kazimer, and I recount some of our favorite examples.

Did you get out for a summer solstice adventure?

June 24th, 2022

Should we start a petition to make the summer solstice a holiday?

Featuring a rotating cast of the editorial team and other guests, the Pinkbike podcast is a weekly update on all the latest stories from around the world of mountain biking, as well as some frank discussion about tech, racing, and everything in between.

My heart goes out to all my fellow female riders in the USA that have now once again been reduced to a lesser being by the unreliable and deteriorating government. Both sides of the hall could have prevented all that happened today for generations, however they have chosen not to so as to have a political campaign strategy. Fuck this shit.

 Sir, this is a wendy's...

 JT summed it up well
  • 5 1
@nskerb: corporation’s like Wendy’s have more constitutional rights then it’s own namesake.
  • 1 4
@BentonFraser: I think JT is pandering just like the 2 party system does in the US, it’s for potential votes. Legislation never changes for the people.

My bad - the word police don't like words. I mean minority rule always ends peacefully.

Yes, I realize the comment section on the Internet is no place for coherent, reasoned discussion but here is an article about what RGB thought about Roe v Wade that may help folks understand things better than the dumbed down, ultra divisive BS on MSNBC/FOX/CNN. For the record, I am 100% pro choice. I hope we can pass legislation that is pro-choice, instead of relying on court decisions that can be picked apart like this.

A request for a future podcast - Please can you discuss the future of televised mountainbiking?

With the news of the RedbullTV departure and shift to Discovery, the future looks somewhat uncertain. The interview with Chris Ball recently really took a turn for the worse and only underlined how bleak the outlook is. Although it's still early days there are many questions that remain unanswered including:

- Are we having to pay a subscription?
- Will they be able to broadcast a race like Redbull?
- What of Rob and the rest of a really solid team?
- Could Redbull effectively create a breakaway league that mirrors the official one, dividing the sport in two like what's happening with golf (albeit without the big bucks)? They have the resources and financial power.
- How is Pinbike effected?

I'm sure there's a ton more. It would be great to get Chris Ball on as part of the episode to seek a little bit of clarity (if possible).

Can you talk about how only a small size frame is the right size for everyone that is Jack Moir sized and under? I'm sure the fascist bike industry will not be happy having to just make one size frame for 90% of people instead of forcing different sizes down our throats. In fact I vote for only two sizes, Smaller than Jack Moir and Taller than Jack Moir.

Last weekend we had our "Solstice Event" at Okeford Hill Bike Park (Dorset UK).
12 hours of uplift and downhill
  • 4 1
...back to bikes. I try and get up Snowdon around the Solstice. Perfect amount of daylight left after the bike ban lifts, great sunset views across Anglesey, and one of the best and longest natural desents in the UK.
  • 1 0
I like how it counts as natural as the path is made for walkers not bikers. Its still a manmade trail whatever way you come down. Not a bikepark but not natural either.

(Also with some of the most expensive and extensive path resurfacing and management in England and Wales due to volume of foot traffic)
  • 1 0
@BentonFraser: depends which way you come down. Ranger path is very eroded and is about as natural as it could be. Certainly to the extent that every path that has ever been ridden on has been made by man or beast so is any path natural. I guess you're referring to the Llanberis path? I'd agree that's certainly not very 'natural'.

Best thing with Rangers is how it naturally changes every year, Ridden it a fair few times now, And it changes everytime (ot my memory is just shite),
Have you been down the Ryhd Ddu side yet?
A far more techy step up from the Rangers side!
  • 2 0
@stuartwildman: Yeah I've done Rhyd Ddu a few times, still can't clean it. Also not a very man made trail, sooo techy
  • 1 0
@mr-moose: Ranger's descent is cracking. Just thinking about it makes me smile.

Definitely should do a podcast with Matthew Fairbrother and his dad. His dad is awesome, he was marshaling an Enduro Event on the weekend even though his boy is racing overseas. Awesome dedication to the sport and pretty cool people.

Glad to see the cast...will help make up for going into a s***storm of a weekend

Does anyone have a good alternative to Trailforks now that it’s got a paywall?

Do you ever get tired of planning routes to review secret embargoed gear + bikes?
