The tenth-anniversary edition of Red Bull Hardline Wales took place over the weekend, and so Mike Kazimer, Dario DiGiulio, Christina Chappetta and I chat about the progression, the insane runs, things we noticed from the sidelines, and whether we think we could ride the 2024 course if it was all we focused on for the next five years.

Featuring a rotating cast of the editorial team and other guests, the Pinkbike podcast is a weekly update on all the latest stories from around the world of mountain biking, as well as some frank discussion about tech, racing, and everything in between.

Subscribe to the podcast via your preferred service (Apple, Spotify, RSS, Megaphone, etc.), or visit the Pinkbike Podcast tag page for the complete list of episodes.

Ride it? I'd attempt on the bike of your choice for a plane ticket and a six-pack just for the yucks.

... finish the entire course properly? You'd have to hand my wife $5M while they airlifted me into the chopper. Actually her price may be slightly lower, I'll check back...

My ex would likely pay them for me to ride it..

 Obviously a giant bubble

You must not be from Columbia. Damn, lets invite more C/So. Americans. They totally shredded and with style. Velez run was purely insane. I'm totally off topic, but can't stop wondering what more C/So.American riders would do up Wales. Seems very in line w/ the urban rides they do, which are probably more insane in regards to hardness & danger surrounding the tracks.

If it was my job to mountain bike, specifically downhill freestyle. Otherwise, I'll stick to my current job behind a computer.

What would it take? About 100x more skill than I currently have.
  • 1 0
 I second this

 The only ancceptable answer.

Facts! hahah speaking for myself anyway...

 Levy would go!

Actually, Matt maybe ponder a feature or two? Kaz is a PNW laddie, just roll up Simmons style and send one? We've all seen Chappetta follow Rémy off some xl senders...

I see you are far more skilled than I.

I’m thinking it’s more like 200-1000x personally Smile .

Then again, I’m a bumbler, and I’m ok with that.

Well I'm still not consistently clearing 10ft table tops, so I might have to pass on this one

Back in the late ‘80’s we’d take these tablets of a night out that negated the need to stop dancing….at all…maybe a couple of those would get me on the start gate!

This is the most quintessentially British thing I have ever read. It made me laugh out loud.

You are Tyres from Spaced, and I claim my £5

Blue Smarties had the same effect.

@henryquinney: you’re welcome chap! Keep up the good work.

I say average riders enter a raffle, if you're picked you get to ride in qualifying for the next World Cup race, just to establish a baseline for all of us regular riders to gauge how incredible these pros actually are.

This is great idea hahah I miss the days of Humbled with Levy

I'm a solid 10 min down the non pro fort William track. Normally 15 with a wee rest at the deer gate to shake my hands out after the battering the first part of the course dished out. Watching some of the pros just jump the rocks we had pinballed (slowly) through and land on the only bike sized clear bit of ground put me firmly in my place. Top 5% of Strava on my local trails.

 New Downhill Bike: $5,000.00
Plane Flight to Wales: $5,500.00
Friends watching you eat shit on the TV in the hospital: Priceless.

For me that would just mean I'm in incredible pain for longer

A zorb ball and someone at the bottom to stop me.

For me, no chance. If I was magically given the skill, strength and bravery of a top level racer, I would be asking for an entry. From the actual race, it actually seems statistically safer than the 2 world cups we have seen so far.

So, I've ridden some pretty step stuff on my mtb lately, you mess up, you just roll and roll and roll, and have yet to roll. I've jumped 35-40 doubles and jumped off a set of 15 stairs and a few road jumps to downside, 20 feet or so, on a BMX bike, in the 80's. My mind says I could send it, my 100lbs heavier and 53 year old body says,"Don't be an idiot". So, I would need a time machine, a sweet modern DH bike and shares of 1980's computer stock when I get back to 1986. I wanna buy a Moots and a Yeti.

This is like asking people if they would fight a bear, somehow theres always a percentage thinking they'd be able to casually do it. pretty sure for 99.9 percent of people it would mean certain death or getting paralysed to be honest.

 Meth

A time machine to go back to when I was 16 and start riding and training every single day
  • 1 0
 Ride Hardline? Ha. Ha. Ha.
Nope, wouldn’t happen.
I’d ride the natural stuff all day long.
In fact it’s very similar to the trails I ride.
Them bike jumps tho. Not for me.
Although I have been hitting small gap jumps over the last few years so maybe one day?
  • 3 0
With enough time, training, and top of the line health care plan, I think I still wouldn't be able to muster up the courage to hit a 90ft jump
  • 2 0
Seeing is believing, 99.9% of guys get up to the top of of any of those sketchy lines would beg for their moms, the .1% that would hit it are idiots that are going to wreck themselves.....either case, you lose.
  • 1 0
Whilst I'd never be capable or have the courage to ride Hardline I'd never have thought I'd ride Dirt Merchant and numerous other biggish or technical lines at the age of 60 but I have. That's my level and I'm so happy with it.And what a lot of fun it has been and I'm so thankful to all the riders who have inspired and encouraged me to progress me.This is and has always been the most beautiful sport-I love it !!!
  • 4 0
Skill. Oh, and a lack of self preservation.
  • 3 0
A six pack and a medical team at the first corner, that's how far I'd make it
  • 2 0
hmmm.. but what if I drank 5 or 6 Redbulls??

oh never mind, heart attack
  • 3 3
honestly i couldn't care less. most of redbulls take-it-to-the-very-extreme-approach just isn't my thing. same for hardline. i'm just oversaturated with gigantic jumps and prefer to ride my own bike instead of watching people do mind- and bicyclebending stuff over and over again.
  • 1 0
It’s an either/or. You can enjoy riding your bike and appreciate those who are pushing the limits. But of course it’s also okay if you don’t.
  • 2 0
I'd be all fired up, with 15psi in my Goodyear tyres and *unfortunately* have my run cut short before I had a chance to nail myself.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds....

Balls as big as Danny Harts

About 12 years off of my current age, Kerr to slow down a lot for me to follow. Strong parts on my bike.
  • 4 4
it took me 3 years to hit the road gap at snowshoe...using that math it would take me about 75 years to tick off that entire course. i would hit those jumps on a moto today though.
  • 3 0
Redbull sent a moto down the course, looked sketchy
  • 1 2
@loosegoat: Yeah i watched it. Blind drops and stuff sketchy for sure. 90' table tops/ lily pad on a moto all day though. That is routine business on an mx track except they are often triples and quads that you can case if you come up short.
  • 2 0
I've never even been to a bike park, but give me a new DH rig and I'd give a few features a go.
  • 12 10
Do your homework on Ten Walls Christina. It’s not good.
  • 10 10
I just looked that up to see what you mean, I didn't know he'd done anything dodgy so I did my homework. Turns out the guy has been dropped by his record label and had lots of his shows/appearances cancelled for being quite an extreme homophobe. It would be nice to see this recommendation removed @christinachappetta.
  • 8 0
did my homework by clicking play. you're right. it is not good.
  • 23 2
Bloody heck! Now I have to research music too?!?! What is the world coming to?!?
  • 5 7
@christinachappetta: yes i heard jack white farted in church once as well. Please cancel him too!
  • 9 1
@Struggleteam: some dime a dozen tech house producer from Lithuania losing gigs being a homophobe isnt a great example for you to shriek cAnCeL CuLtUrE over.
  • 6 5
@norcalbike: I didn't shriek it, the folks asking for the recommendation to be removed did. HTF people even know about it is beyond me but busting her chops about it is a bit much IMO.
  • 1 3
@norcalbike: He's from Lithuania boss, he doesn't give a shit. What happened to seperating art from artist? Anyway 75% chance he's Catholic, they love their gay people as you probably know.
  • 4 1
@tempnoo1: he definitely gives a shit. Lost his whole career over it. Made some half assed apologies but it was too late.
  • 2 0
I'd try it all for fun except the jumps.

the thing of it is, I COULDN'T RIDE IT!

With Google podcasts closing down (certainly in UK) are you going to put these on YouTube podcasts?

I reckon if it takes Ronan 5-6 RedBulls to win a DH/Hardline race, I could probably do it with about 20 in me.
  • 1 0
I'd ride it blind first shot on my hardtail. Probably set a lap record tbh.
  • 1 0
A lot more skill and a not-so-Hardline type of course...

 Bigger balls.

Back when Danny took that title, rear wheels weren't as big as people run them now. Be careful what you wish for.
