Ben Cathro and I get into the nitty-gritty of downhill racing - when you're too old for it, why MSA is the most physical, who the most complete rider in the world is, plus where you can get a great deal on a used Theragun.
THE PINKBIKE RACING PODCAST // EPISODE 7 - MSA WORLD CUP DH POST-RACE WRAP-UP PODCAST August 7th, 2022
Henry Quinney and Ben Cathro recap the MSA World Cup
Another solid week, good work, chaps. And what a race. Loving the Conti collective, it's like they rounded up most of the people's champs.
I've heard of (through TV) the idea of suicide by cop, is Scotsman Henry attempting suicide by commenter?
Great to hear Leona is coming back into the fold, felt a little bad she had a taste of being part of an amazing team to then lose the spot, well done for making that happen, Pinkbike / Outside... maybe the Tin Man had a heart all along (Serious for a sec, it's amazing what the team has done so far this year, can't imagine the difference it's made for these riders)
Hey PB, would love to see some tire insert statistics and analysis from this race. Seems like a good possible case study.
Awesome race. Thanks for helping to bring the details to us all around the world.
It blew my mind (pun intended) to see the amount of riders coming down with flats who weren't running inserts. Considering how proven they are these days, it seems almost negligent to race a track where you know people's tyres and wheels are getting smoked and not use even a light form of insert.
I get some of the riders are sensitive to weight changes, but a) it's a performance upgrade and probably worth taking the hit on, and b) John Hall said they weighed Gwin's bikes after some runs in Snowshoe and it had gained 5-8lbs of mud. Those 5-8lbs of mud didn't render Gwin's bike totally unrideable, so I'm pretty sure riders could handle a small weight penalty in their wheels to avoid ruining a quali or race run.
I'll say that I signed up for Beta because Henry said it was a way to support the team and the commentary. Although I'm sorry about what happened to Beta and I got good value from the, this is worth the Beta subscription. Thanks guys.
I was wondering what happened to the Snowshoe roundup. It was great meeting Henry and some of the crew in Snowshoe and look forward to great content and results in the races and seasons to come!
Regarding Laurie's run... Did he have an issue in qualifying? His race run was awesome and that held for long time. I was thinking a bobble or 2 on the qualifying run, but went flawless in the final...
Really happy for Finn. What a ride! But seeing these covered prototypes, I was wondering how the UCI is handling such suspension covers? Are they able to check for electronics like in road racing? And also, what if the cover isn't just for hiding but for being aero? And what will happen to the pinkbike comment section if it turns out Finn won on an aero e-bike?
Obviously no suspicion here for real, just curiosity.
Then I googled it and realized they must have been referring to sweet potato casserole. Guilty.
I live in California, though, hahaha.
