North Shore Billet Announces The Quadrant Ring™

Apr 1, 2018
by North Shore Billet

The age of the round chainring is over.

Through an exhaustive R&D process to refine the oval chainring we discovered that optimum pedalling efficiency didn't come from subtly altering the circle, it came from a whole new shape we call the 'square'. By breaking the pedalling action into 90-degree segments the rider effortlessly puts four times more power to the rear wheel. In between these peak power moments, there is the restive stage of pedalling which riders report a 90% decrease in fatigue.

The unique geometric shape of the 'square' also provides our Quadrant rings with the revolutionary Parallel Chain Retention Technology. While conventional chainrings can only have 180 degrees of chain contact, the Quadrant ring has up to 270 degrees of contact that eliminates all chain drop. Forever.

Easier pedalling, more power, less stopping and dropping.

In 20 years they'll figure out that its way better if you rotate it 90 degrees.

Pinkbike is really putting out the material today. I wonder if they built up these easter eggs all year...

 NSB is on LSD
  • 7 2
I thought it was 28.99 degrees.
  • 10 3
That chain is jumping more than Pam Silgrim on her uphill electric slopestyle rig.
  • 6 0
If this doesn't come with a new standard, I don't want it.
  • 15 1
Surprised Box Components didn't come up with this first
  • 2 1
 You mean 89.99°?
  • 9 0
@St1234: Square wheels would give you a lot more grip, the contact patch of the tire is way bigger!
  • 1 0
 @SmashedFungi: your right !
  • 1 0
It's capable of rotating 22.5*... Little disappoint that it's not Narrow-wide toothed.

Finally, a chainring that mimics my natural pedaling motion.
  • 55 1
I knew it. One day my name will make history.
  • 48 0
Wow. Now we can have chain slap while climbing too.
  • 7 0

- fixed that for you.

@Poulsbojohnny: I don't know where you were going with that one, this ain't corn...

Would've liked to have seen what kind of difference in environmental impacts the manufacturing of these square rings has. If it's more environmentally friendly I could see this going places, but PB has really been dropping the ball when it comes to the important stuff.
  • 31 0
They are made in Canada by native free range badgers. All materials come from recycled PBR cans.
  • 26 0
I know it's a joke but I'm also super impressed.
  • 24 0
Agreed. The fact they actually made it and made a video about it rather than just a few photoshopped images is impressive. It would be interesting to see how it actually worked.
  • 1 0
@fartymarty: Look at that torque transfer to the back wheel. Talk about going nowhere fast.
  • 1 3
@fartymarty: would be impossible to pedal correctly I guess
  • 11 0
How many teeth, I'm currently running a 32 up front.....whats the conversion on this?
I've obviously gotta have it if it's a new standard
  • 5 0

How come people that have lied to that they beleive a nything now!
April fooooooool?
  • 5 0
 You have to square that..
  • 6 0
 ..."currently running a 32 up front.....whats the conversion on this?" ....feels like a 22, then a 42...then a 22..then a 42...
  • 11 0
There it is, kinda worth the wait. Although technology is for squares and these guys thought not only outside the box, they thought around it.
  • 3 0
Hey man, it's hip to be square. From my angle, this looks right on.
  • 11 0
I ll wait for the TRIANGLE shaped one !
  • 9 0
The combination with a square cassette would be sick
  • 4 0
They gotta keep something for next year..!
  • 6 1
This really pisses me off. I've had my YT for just 3 months now and thought I had all the new standards dialed. Now this square ring comes out, making my entire bike obsolete with its groundbreaking drive! Probably has a 28.99 DUB bottom bracket too. Another game changer to screw the consumer. Effing bike manufacturers!

For sale: YT Jeffsy, PF92 and 30T NW chainring. Never ridden in the mud, snow, or anything else that might wear things.

Little too close to home, eh?
  • 2 0
That sucks bro, but you need to catch up to the times...
  • 7 0
Perfect!!! no chain drop on square edge bumps!!
  • 1 0
I’m still waiting for a chainset with an oval, triangle and square chain ring. Preferably with Shimanos shift guide, so that I’ll be ready for any kind/shape of hills! ????
  • 3 0
Marketing slogan: "Don't key climbs blow your wad; go quad!" You're welcome.
  • 3 0
Stupid iPhone autocorrect ... "don't let climbs blow your wad... go quad!"
  • 4 0
This is old tech , the tri ring is 300 % more efficient
  • 4 0

Now I can have more clearance when climbing logs! Na, I'll still buzz through them with my 'round ring"!

Let us toss one face & ride beyond future... Here comes the triangle ring!
  • 2 0
BUT is it 29+ E-enduro eagle specific ?!?
  • 1 0
It would be really funny if this actually turned out to be a real game changer !!
  • 1 0
I'd like to place a 100,000 order ...It's too bad there's no place to order.
  • 1 0
How would that work with a chain guide, your chain would definitely drop. BS
  • 3 0
Incorrect. Squared torque figures clearly demonstrate a higher quotient of retention forces, while also showing a corresponding reduction in rotational resistance. I’ve actually heard also that NSB was working on a template for putting speed holes into your frame like that used car salesman in the simpsons years ago...
  • 2 1
@sosburn this is what you need to finally win all those races
  • 1 0
Riding with that would bug the absolute shit out of me.
  • 2 0
 Take my money NOW!!!
