The Strive Diaries: CFET Brings in New Partners for 2015

2015 CFET Strive CF Canyon Bicycles

It’s a tough old game trying to predict the future, but if the end of 2014 is anything to go by, then 2015 is going to be pretty darn good for the Canyon Factory Enduro Team (CFET). While our tried and true lineup of Joe Barnes, Ludo May, Ines Thoma and Fabien Barel remains unchanged, we've got three new partners joining us for the ride in the new season.

CFET will run their Canyon Strive CF race bikes with RockShox forks and shocks in 2015, capture all the action in HD with GoPro cameras, and illuminate the trails after the sun goes down with Lupine Lighting Systems.

“The working relationship between SRAM and Canyon goes beyond just business. We share the same attitude to riding, set the same high standards for our products, and have worked together across a variety of disciplines and at events for several years. Ever since the team was founded back in 2013 we have ridden with XX1 drivetrains, SRAM brakes and Reverb dropper posts, so making the shift to RockShox suspension was an easy step that will further strengthen our cooperation. That kind of consistency is not just good for our team, but for riders everywhere as at the end of the day, it improves the quality of all our products thanks to the punishment the team dishes out on their parts. I also can’t wait for the guys to start using the new SRAM XX1 Quarq Power Meter. The performance analysis that power meters provide is a big step up for us and will really raise the level all around.” - Flo Goral, CFET Manager

Helmet cams are nothing new, but their importance on race weekends cannot be overstated when it comes to scoping out the best lines, especially when practice time is so restricted. It’s great to partner up with GoPro this year as they’ve always set the benchmark in POV camera technology. Our guys will be using the new Hero4 throughout the season when getting to grips with new tracks.

There are times that you get carried away when shooting or testing that you don’t even notice it when the light begins to fade. Back in Chile last year we got stuck trying to ride down a boulder field in the pitch black. That wasn’t ideal, so getting hold of some decent lights for the new season was a big priority. With Lupine Lighting Systems we can rely on German quality that is built to last and has enough power to turn night into day.

 Dear Canyon,

Your direct sales model is as attractive as the curve on your top tube. For years we've longed for your presence in our marketplace. Every photo we see of you painstakingly reminds us that we cannot be together. But I write this to challenge you...why must we be apart?

Sincerely,

U.S. Consumers

I am no expert but i thought that one of the reasons is that there is a lot of patents they would have to licence in the U.S.
So they rather build cheap(er) bikes and sell them in Europe.

Short chainstays, on-the-fly adjustable geo, solid spec, reasonable pricing. It's almost like they're trolling us North Americans.

Currently my quest for a new bike is proving difficult, but if canyon was in US markets then it would be an easy choice, and I'm betting a lot of other people are in the same boat as me. I'm not too knowledgable when it comes to profit margins, patent costs, etc, but would the sales revenue from coming to US not outweigh the cons? I almost feel like they just hate Americans...
  • 1 2
You forgot horstlink patent rights. by the way are they still making bikes with no ISCG taps?
  • 7 0
I thought the horstlink patent was up... hence the new transitions bikes...

I'm coming over to NYC in April.... want me to bring you one.......
  • 8 1
Yea actually bring 5, my buddies and I will meet you in a dark alley somewhere around 2 in the morning.

@kentsull21 Ah, why is it that a business decision has to be interpreted, like Bush era rhetoric directed at any action directed at the US military as 'hating Americans or freedom'? The decision has nothing to do with hatred, and everything to do with their perception of market viability. Enter American market and have to deal with our legal system? Not worth it. Maybe issue should be focused on litigation-happy Americans rather than projecting a rationalized business decision as being anti-you and me...

Sweet bikes, by the way. Would love to try the Shapeshifter. Seems to have some cool merits. Good luck in 2015!

@reverend I see your sarcasm-detector switch is turned off, please flip it on and try again. Obviously they don't base financial decisions off of hate for America, I was joking.
  • 2 0
Sarcasm doesn't always come across clearly in print.

 Any updates on US dealers?

I read somewhere recently that they were gonna enter the U.S. this year (rumor after rumor), but my last e-mail to them a few months back denied any such move.

Not gonna wait. Will probably place my order soon (watching the Euro slide). As of today, the Strive CF 8.0 model will cost you about $4300 U.S. which ain't such a bad price for a bike of this type. That doesn't include VAT, tariff, etc. but that shouldn't be too over the top. I hope.

I've got some pretty solid connections in the "international logistics" field. I'll open a new thread in the forums if I get this thing onto American soil :-)

All prices listed on the Canyon website already include 19% VAT that apply in Germany. All our prices -yes, I'm German - do, whether it be online or a price tags in the supermarket which makes a lot more sense, but that's a different story. Of course you have to think about customs when you import a bike to the US.

YT have announced North American sales coming soon , only a matter of time before Canyon do the same.

@HaloPower i'm looking at Spectral CF, i have some friends in EU (Sweden) that could ship it to me in US. How do i deal with customs? Is it even possible?
  • 2 1
It all depends on the route you take. I can import from Germany into Mexico. That's probably the best bet since Germany and mexico have a FTA in place. It also depends on what you're importing. A bike frame is usually taxed less than a complete bike. Also once it's exported from Mexico it's a crap shoot since it will depend in whether it is taxed based on the value or the dimensions of the shipping container. So far, my research shows me that it's still doable.
  • 1 0
@themanro I can say the Spectral is more than enough for most people. Strive in more climbing up roads and charge down, the Spectral is trail, better all round. From Sweden to US may charges 25-100 dollars my guess. Just talk to your customs.

Get one!

I bought a rare watch from Arizona ones, got 30dollars custom fee. for a watch i payed 500 dollars for.

I like the scheming to get the "forbidden fruit". However, what will you do if you have any quality issues? Mountain bikes, when used properly, are highly abused! I personally wouldn't risk that kinda dough on something that may not be supported should anything happen to the frame.

I'm just weird like that. I wouldn't consider myself anywhere near a pro-level rider nor do I follow the racing scene, but I've been riding since the days of my ProFlex 856. I think I'm like Jay Leno is with cars. I have no idea whether the Strive CF is the ultimate or a piece of crap. I just want it because I can't have it. :-) It's like guys in Europe who buy Chevy Corvettes I guess.

Or maybe it's like buying a Ferrari... don't be shocked when the bill for your first oil change is $1000

I'd definitely stay away until a solid network is developed in the US, mostly because it sounds like a huge PIA to get one to the US, and there are so many other great options, that take a lot less effort to get. I agree on the look of their lineup - I've always thought all of their bikes look great (except no carbon 29 AM machine).

 @HaloPower get a Capra
  • 2 1
it is crazy; people in North America want to have products from Europe-cars, motorcycles, bikes etc. And I am just continuously dreaming to have Mustang, chevy silverado, Santa Cruz....
  • 4 4
Silverado? Mustang? You are probably dreaming about your friend's chubby gf as well
  • 6 0
not really..but there are internet sites where you can find what you are looking for.

If narrow (ish) wheels are so bad, why are Mavic Enduros (F21mm/R19mm) used on the top of the line offerings from both Canyon and YT, two of the most loved bikes?
  • 3 0
Looking forward to another awesome year!
  • 2 0
Dig your guys products. SM3 Pro saddle is the best!!
  • 2 0
 Danke!
  • 1 0
I assume that as a factory ride it is the SME3 Pro Carbon.

p.s. been riding with Ergon packs for years (love the FLINK, even bought several on eBay when you stopped importing them to the US for a while) best packs I've owned as far as riding comfort. More recently with Ergon grips and saddles... loving the ride. Keep up the great work!
  • 1 0
@reverend Yes, the Canyon Enduro Team and all our Ergon Factory Riders are on the Pro Carbon models in our saddle line.....unless they specify otherwise.

Thanks for the solid and positive feedback!
  • 4 3
Interesting there not running the Fox 36 this year, guess that's what happens when you're sponsored, or maybe they will?
  • 5 0
the whole article was about their new sponsers, i:e rockshox for suspension!
  • 3 0
Yeah... you can get away with sharpieing over the makers mark on some tyres, but somehow I think a 36 painted black would be a wee bit too noticeable for the marketing department to sign off on.

Plus, y'know, why would they? The 36 is really good, but the Pike is also really good.
  • 1 0
Joe Barnes ran a Fox 36 with 170mm travel on his Spectral at the Scottish EWS last year. Innerlethian is a bit full on DH type a place, wonder what he'll run this year, Lyric 170mm travel?
  • 2 1
@Canyon I'll trade you mine, if you trade me yours...very nice ride pictured.
  • 2 0
Dear Euro's, Bring me a canyon and I will marry you for citizenship.
  • 2 1
Will Lupine make light mounts for 35mm bars?
  • 1 0
I Keep asking NightRider the same question.
  • 2 1
they forgot to take Fabiens stabilisers off for the photo, fail..
  • 1 1
 I guess adidas for eyewear?
  • 3 1
I guess not. Because Fabien is still with Julbo. CMIIW. IMHO. Canyon gives their athletes freedom to choose what eyewear is the best for them. Maybe the best choice for Joe is adidas. CMIIW
  • 2 1
Adidas is making a push for an entire clothing line-up for bikes. Expect to see more gear from them very soon.
  • 2 1
@joesrepsol so in other words, Fabien is not with Julbo again?
  • 1 0
Bee good to see adidas riding gear. Like Hans Rey
  • 2 1
 That bike is a beauty!
  • 1 1
I want one of those bike stands! Where can i get one?!
  • 1 1
