It's called off Season for a reason, the Alps are covered with snow and we´d usually go somewhere south and warm to get some riding in. This trip was somehow different, when we landed in Louisville we were welcomed by a raging snow storm and the harshest winter Kentucky has seen for 15 years, -24 degrees / -11 Fahrenheit, Car wrecks lay scattered over the main highways, shops were closed. Just like I would imagine Armageddon.

Could there be a better place to hide than an abandoned Mine with mild temperatures all year round, perfectly built trails and a coffee shop?

Warning - after watching this you might want to grab a shovel and dig a hole in your garden. The moment when the lights went on and it went from infinite darkness to an incredible network of trails proved that Trail builder, Joseph Prisel has done an incredible job.

Woah Strava won't work down there!
  • 2 3
I don't know if I can rent a bike there, so i'll probably just bring MINE.

Uhhh seems a bit too underground for my tastes. I don't want to turn into gollum.
  • 12 0
I like the fact they groom the jumps and leave the single track some what natural'ish

I wonder how one gets permission to build in an abandoned mine from city or state. Unless you happen to own the mine... In which case it still seems like it would be a real pain in the a$$. Props to the owners / builders for working so hard to build stuff we love to play on. Now I'm curious if there is any good riding in Kentucky up above on the terrafirma??

There is some really good riding in KY.

Louisville is working on an IMBA ride center in the very near future as well.

In college I worked as a tour guide and thought it would be a great place for biking. Then they created the race (www.minersrevenge.com) now this and rays! Good news the mid west, now biking is year round!

I've always wanted to do the Adventure Mine tour. Plus I've heard their trails are super technical and rocky (not counting the mine part of the race).
  • 3 1
Seems like the trail section is really fun, and it's nice to see someone riding like a normal person, instead of the superhuman riding we see here ad nauseum. I get zero stoke from seeing someone do something I'll never be able to do, but I do enjoy seeing someone with solid riding skills having a good time.
  • 8 0
I get soooo much stoke from watching stuff i can't do! Macaskill, any WC rider edit, any slopestyle edit, how do you not get any stoke?? Watching riders who are better than me gives me more stoke than Protour's got neg props
  • 3 0
Backflips are now considered 'riding like a normal person'? Damn, I guess I've got some work to do.
  • 1 0
Okay, you got me there. I will never do a backflip, unless it's into a foam pit.

I see a Kentucky road trip in my future.

 Is that a 29er? "Ugh"!
  • 1 0
 I couldn't tell if it was a Spectral 29 or a Strive 275?
  • 3 0
The bike I am riding in the vid is a Spectral AL 29er

 danke schön

Nice riding, Rob. It's easily the best representation of the park I've seen. They should've had you film this earlier and used it for promotion. I was down there on Sunday while you were shooting, BTW. I was the fool jumping the black fatbike(the only fatbike).

Ever ride DJ's at night? Even with adequate lighting the shadows play tricks on your eyes. I'm curious as to what that's like there given it's somewhat the same scenario with shadows casted.

And at the last jump one of the creepy "decent" monsters comes out and scared the shit outta everyone!!!
  • 4 0
 distinct lack of roots
  • 3 1
No matter what decision you'l make about bike-park or not. I think the film is amazing. The opening in particular!!!

and pinkbike makes me commit suicide again
  • 3 0
again, haha... What happened last time?
  • 4 0
It was only a suicide no-hander.

Cool vid and cool set up. But why change clothes half way through? You are riding the same environment... it's just riding your bike after all, not fashion.
  • 1 0
I changed bikes - from my trail bike 29er Spectral to my dirt jump bike Stitched. So when I ride Dirtjumps i ride in Jeans and T-shirt and different helmet.
  • 1 1
How is the ventilation? It seems like with a bunch of riders you would be breathing in dirt the entire time. It looks pretty hazy in there.
  • 2 0
The entrance is huge and there´s a natural ventilation through the cavern. If there´s a temperature difference between in- and outside it get´s slightly foggy.

On a busy weekend, the section housing the main jump lines gets pretty thick with dust. As in, you'll feel the grit in your teeth and blow brown stuff out your nose when you leave. It settles fairly quickly after the numbers drop. They water quite often, but that section could use a constant mist like the veggies at the supermarket.

"Whats your favorite trail?" 69, sir...

They can make vids to promote Canyon in the U.S. but won't sell here?!
  • 2 0
Canyon..... The cocktease of the bike world...... Or maybe some good news might be coming for our North American brethren? I hope so because I love the shit out of my Spectral..... Hell I would even ride it if skiing hadn't torn my knee a new one...

Great video and a great soundtrack. Nice riding. I appreciate your effort.

Obviously theres gold in that mine
  • 1 0
this would be awsome to have near by

Great vid....but I'm still boycotting this place until they expand hours and offer a season pass
  • 10 0
Hey man, we talked to the owners quite a lot and they seem to be really cool, it´s their first bike park and they are willing to learn you just have to talk to them. You can also PM me if you want and i´ll forward your concerns... Cheers Seb
  • 2 0
Is the trail builder the same Joe Prisel from Ray's and Lumberyard?
  • 1 0
 Yes.
  • 4 2
@infinitetrails I have talked to them as well and have even scooped a few shovel fulls of dirt inside there.....but that doesn't change the fact that they are still only open 10-6 week and 10-8 on weekends with no season pass offerings. I can go into detail and list the hours of Rays, Burlington, Joyride, Wheelmill, etc...but you have the internet, and can also see that the mission statements of the other bike parks are "committed to building better riders"...After being inside there and talking to the owners---I don't see it being a skill building/community bike park--but a travel destination to be paired with the MegaCavern zip lines/tours. So again, I will boycott them until I see the different trend you speak of (and I hope dearly for)....So, I'm not shitting on your up beat optimism for this place--I'm just a little older and perhaps a bit jaded--and spoiled as I used to live across the street from Valmont bike park...so Cheers back to you man--happy riding
  • 3 0
Agreed some afterwork hours would definitely be great. I´ll try and put in a good word for you...
  • 1 0
 Cool man...good luck
  • 2 1
Boycotting is probably the worst way to change this owner's mind or his mine. Go along, bring others, make yourself known, and THEN you start with the suggestions. A silent voice is no voice at all.
  • 1 0
@iamamodel Believe me bro, I understand what you are saying....But also believe me when I say that I've made myself heard and made myself known...I would rather spend my time/effort/money on our projected outdoor mountain bike park--called Turkey Run--and get them the resources for pump tracks, progressive trails, etc....There is just too much talent going to waste in the middle of this country and they need access--that's all I'm saying
  • 1 0
 Awesome job!
  • 1 2
do they charge to get in? or is it a public park?
  • 1 0
It's private and like all the other indoor parks, they charge.
