Jill Sprintner! She's so awesome! Super friendly and humble. Crazy to me that the best female downhill rider in the country can't get the support to race World Cup.
Seriously, if we had more people like her in the sport, it would be bigger than these crazy sports that [most] people religiously follow. I also found it extremely satisfying to watch how similar the two of them ride together. Exact lines, body position, speed and flow. Amazing!
@jojotherider1977: Yeah I could be wrong but I think her reasoning for stepping away was lack of support and a team. Maybe she could join the Norco team if she really wanted to? I'm honestly not sure but i do know she raced Leogang in 2015 and did it all on her own.
Surprised they didn't mention her brother Paul who had one of the main parts in Building the underground, still considered one of, if not the best trails bmx videos ever..
Alright Pinkbike, how dumb am I? I just turned down a job in Bellingham. Flipside is that I live in Asheville. In my defense, I have a better career here to help support my 5mo old girl.
Despite how great it is, nobody is getting rich here. Your decision would have been dumb if you were living in a van with your dog, but family's gotta come first. But come visit! The bham mtb community is friendly to outsiders!
Ditto above, Bellingham is awesome but not tons of career opportunities there. Buy some property there while it's still affordable and vacation, then retire there when kids are grown.
@rockhammer: property is stupid expensive these days, unfortunately. Our median home price is about to be 400k and the inability to develope new water wells is only driving it all up.
Jill I got news for ya.... You're there! "Tag along little sister" has arrived in a big way. You're such a great ambassador for the sport and such an inspiration to our little girls to get out there and ride. Again thanks for being so cool to my little girl at the US Open. You're a class act all the way.
I totally rode through the shoot where they were getting the footage at 3:55-4:05 or so--thinking "who the hell are these clowns with their drone clogging up SST?" until I caught a glimpse of the Red Bull helmet and realized just what was going on
New Bham arrival, I see Jill everywhere. One night she's talking to my kid at the BMX track, the next she calls him to the front of the Freehub Mag autograph line by name @ the pump track opening. My scrawny 11yo asks how she knows him, and she laughs that "they're bike buddies!" She lives the community attitude here, and we're big fans of how she shows up. ...And she wrings it out, as is well advertised!
@bkchef2000: Definitely Deuces Wild. Its definitely the most dialed. I think its the only one that doesn't get destroyed during the summer. very little braking is required so no reason to drag a wheel through a corner. Except for those two hair pin turns near the end. Those catch a lot of people off guard.
B-town representing! These two and videos like these continue to make me so proud of this sport and our scene here in a Washington. Rad riders, chill people.
Awesome video! Big fan of hers and stoked to see that she and Bryn ("Bryll") have stuck with their plan from several years back to make their own gig happen.
4:05 ... oh that's how Deuces Wild is supposed to be ridden.
That rainy forest looks pretty good right now - 55+ days no rain here...
One question I ask myself every time I see girls riding is the riding position. Jill, Rachel and the EWS ladies all have that low and back riding position. No the high and loose we see so obviously in Minaar and others. Why? Because they are shorter? Anything anatomical? Please don't see this as a critic, I am just curious to understand.
Such a good video, Jill is so smooth! Anyone notice the unicycle, RC car and various toys in the garage. Love seeing a workshop that you can tell is actually used.
Great video and photos!! she is chisel, the exercise on the balance board throwing the ball against the wall was impressive. Good luck jill ! I just want to go ride my bike now
Awesome video! I love that every time I walk in my 8 year old daughter's room I see a poster that Jill autographed for her at Crankworx last year, and my son has one that Bryn signed on his wall. It was a little embarrassing when my kids told her I read MTB magazines while I'm pooping though.
So a foot stool is required for a Shimano Brake bleed .. I've been doing it wrong this whole time!
Jill, I enjoyed chatting with you at the bike wash at Nationals. I told my daughter what you said about dual slalom and she said she'll be there next year.
I run into Juill Kitner on the trails more often than any other pro. It's awesome that she's always out there instead of on a flight to the next competition.
Love this so much, and what makes it more special is having her best friend/husband supporting and both of them sharing that passion-- it elevates your dirt lifestyle experience x100
Great story, photos and of course video!! So much respect for you Jill. Good luck at Crankworx, I won't be there this year, but hopefully catch up soon.
yup, and while she has mad bike skills, she's not a stellar dh racer - or at least not on the WC level. a few seasons on the WC several years ago and she had a few podiums but mostly 8ths and 10ths... everytime she is profiled, someone asks this question.
This suggestion comes up pretty frequently, probably because she wins a lot of races that aren't on the World Cup tour, like Sea Otter and Crankworx. She's clearly focusing on Crankworx these days which seems to play to her all-around strengths coming originally from BMX. Anyway, about the World Cup racing idea...
Jill Kintner did race the UCI WC DH circuit a few years ago. She got a 3rd in 2014. Her website says she has 5 UCI WC DH podiums and that seems to match what I found here: www.hookit.com/members/jillkintner
She raced BMX for years back in the 1990s and was a peer of ACC in 4x when she moved to riding MTB.
Wish there was a mountain bike version of it.
That was awesome... The photos... The story... The video...
Thanks for sharing!
The light was KILLER that day!
Where's the cone drills guys?!
4:05 ... oh that's how Deuces Wild is supposed to be ridden.
