Throwback Thursday: Casey Brown & Cam McCaul Send it Down Corbet's Couloir

Dec 10, 2020
by Sarah Moore

Last week, we published 10 of the best snow edits. While many commenters said that we missed Gee overshooting a 60 footer by nearly double, it's a bit short to make the list of best snow edits. Although, wow - what a moment! One that we did miss however was Casey Brown and Cam McCaul's first ever mountain bike descent of the double black diamond ski run in 2017.

Corbet's Couloir is one of the most legendary and challenging ski runs in the world. There's a litany of other adjectives you could prescribe to the lines McCaul and Brown threw down - sketchy, heavy, and borderline suicidal all come to mind - but ultimately, the end result was jaw-dropping.

Anyone who has ever skied or snowboarded Jackson Hole knows just how nerve-racking it can be to send it into the infamous Corbet's Couloir, even in the best of conditions. Doing it in icy conditions on mountain bikes is nothing short of insane, and that's exactly what Casey Brown and Cam McCaul did.

That drop in is kinda the only scary part about that run on skis. After that its just steep. But boy would that be steep on a mountain bike. And that drop in would be absurd.

Mountain biking and skiing, two of the best things in life in a single video. And some serious commitment riding that steep terrain in these snowy conditions, hats off to Cam and Casey. Tim Durtschi's skiing definitely added to the cool vibe!

I guess if you are a sponsored skier you can kill your ski's like that. But then again... my ski's came out of a dumpster.

Maybe they are the ones that he threw away after that run...

I thought "I wonder what that drop looks like without snow?" So i googled. Yep, it's a cliff.

That’s a steep run, drop in is scary, from the top it is far narlier than the video can show. If in doubt, watch the skier skidding hard to manage speed. On a bike, there’d be no speed control, just ride it out or crash. I wonder how many tales they did.

Amazing but I cant help but think how brutal it would be if that first drop didnt work out and then carrying that kinda speed into the sketchy gnar. I phew'd pretty hard.
