Tonic Fab's Howie gets a kid!

Tonic Fab is a small bike company from Portland, Oregon that specialize in dialed bikes. Recently I got my hands on a Howie frame, however, Landon sent through some new information on the Howie to stoke you guys out even more. Now this is dialed folks!

Click here for info on the new Howie...The New Howie

The new Howie looks nearly identical to the old model. So what’s different?

Changes:

Less Weight: The new Howie with our Deep Coat finish weighs 4.8lbs / 2.18 kg.
Less Chainstays: 14.56” / 370mm
Less Cost: $625 USD including bottom bracket.
Less Hassle: Tonic Mid 90 bottom bracket.

The Mid 90 is simply a BMX mid bottom bracket scaled-up for use with a mountain bike chain line. Frames will ship with this BB installed.

The Mid 90 has some real advantages:

•Ease of setting up the bike with 3 piece cranks for a mountain bike chain line. The only spacer is the non-drive side bearing cap. The sprocket adapter sits right against the drive side bearing.
•Uses the same common and durable bearings as a regular Mid BB.
•90 is a very high number, so you know it’s good.

Weight: 4.8lbs w/ Deep Coat finish.

Geometry (with 460mm fork and 2.1 Small Block 8’s)-

Chainstay length: 14.56”
BB height: 12.8
TT length: 22.25”
HT Angle: 69.5
ST Angle 73

Chainline: 50mm

BB: Tonic Mid-90

Head Tube: Campy Integrated.

Price: $625 USD with BB installed.

Tonic advises a down payment if your interested in one of the new Howies, as they are going to go fast!

Ah! I am glad to see that it is Mid 90, because Mid 80 just wouldn't have cut it. Now I can feel the quality of an extra ten.

I am so looking at buying one now. But depending on the fork how much dose an aveage single speed built up bike with this frame weigh?
  • + 1
 i'd say 28lbs
  • + 4
 I'd say less.
  • + 0
well with a 4.8 pound frame and a 3.8 pound fork, you're looking at 26-28 pounds on the entire build.
  • + 0
also depends how many brakes you want to put and how much money you wanna spent. A Tonic frame is high--end so I don't believe you'll skimp on parts
  • + 1
 how do you figure?
what are you using for components?
if you're running single speed like he said, it's gonna be in the 20ish range if you're a weight weenie.

just think about this: 4.8 plus 3.8 is 8.6. those are your heaviest components.
if you have more then 15 pounds of weight then I'm guessing you could care less about weight and there would be no reason to buy a frame that was built to be light.

i have a riot but my components are better in my oppinion
  • + 2
Nobody cares. You're commenting on a Howie blog, Not a Riot. You're going to be bashed regardless of your bike's specs.

Personally not too keen on the dropouts, but that is a minor thing on what is, apart from that, one of the sickest frames I've seen.
  • + 1
Those dropouts do look a bit lacking. Also not into the internal headset.
  • + 1
what? internals and the way to got lighter, cheaper and alot easier to install
