Tough Riding and Racing in Leogang
The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup is visiting the Austrian bike-mecca Saalfelden Leogang on June 11th and 12th and it will be quicker, more difficult and more exciting than ever! The world’s fastest downhill riders will be battling the course for vital seconds and points on the legendary “Speedster” trail during the Out of Bounds Festival (June 9th-12th). The course will challenge the riders with new sophisticated and technical refinements. The festival will have even more bike-action to offer, thanks to hosting the FMB World Tour Gold Event “26TRIX”. Due to the huge Expo-Area fans get a real close look behind the scenes in the pits. Curious? Take a look at the highlights from last year:
Eight races will decide who will be crowning himself and herself as champion of the world by taking home the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup title. Excitement kicked in right away at the first two stops of the season: so far Aaron Gwin (USA) and Loic Bruni (FRA) are neck and neck. Gwin celebrated success in Bruni’s home country in Lourdes (FRA, April 10th), but the young Frenchman fought back Down Under, where he took the win and conquered the jungle in Cairns (AUS, April 23th). Rachel Atherton (GBR) has been dominating the women’s races so far. The downhill circus will be in Leogang for the fourth UCI downhill event of the 2016 season, shortly after visiting Fort William in Scotland on June 5th.

With tenths of a second deciding, who will win, the course must be perfectly prepared. Shaper Reini Leitner has maintained the “Speedster” trail in Bikepark Leogang and added a few new elements and technical difficulties. The riders will travel 2.5 kilometers / 1.5 miles down the mountain Asitz into the valley and must overcome rooted and high-speed sections. A highlight of the course is surely the finish this year, as the athletes will be gathering all the speed possible over a rock garden in order to shoot over the finish line in pursuit of the fastest time.

On top of all the downhill biking the Out of Bounds Festival will also present the “highflyers” of the mountain biking scene. Many of the world’s best slopestyle athletes will be sending their new moves at the FMB World Tour Gold Event “26TRIX”. Cash rolls, double back flips and maybe even Nicholi Rogatkin’s “Twister” will make the crowd go wild in the final on June 11th from 5.00 pm. Already on Friday, June 10th, all spectators and guests will be able to get on the saddle themselves to show off their skills, whilst competing in the pumptrack contest at 8.30 pm. Take a peek behind the scenes in the “Expo-Area”, which will be open to everyone during the whole weekend, and get close to all the downhill stars in the pits. Additional highlights such as the Red Bull Sky Dive Show and a trial show with Tom Oehler will excite everyone on Sunday as well. However, there can be no event without a party. The “Warm Up Party” on Thursday will be followed up by the “Pump It Party” on Friday, a concert by “Wild Culture” in the club “Ö3” on Saturday and the “After Bike Party” on Sunday from 8.00 pm.
