Video: A Bike and Boat Monster Hunt in Scotland

Jun 25, 2014
by Dan Milner

It seemed like a good idea at the time... to go look for the mythical Loch Morar monster Morag hauling bikes behind sea kayaks to bivvi spots. Hard work? You betcha. But great riding and a damn fine little adventure to boot, proving you don't have to go too far to find adventure, just think a little aquatically. Trail Ninja episode 15.

Don't forget the 'pro' from the Explorer Pro 200....

Yep the 200 every time. It was a gamble working out how big a dinghy we needed to carry the bike. The 200 won. If h=it had been the 100 a bike would probably be 300 meters deep at the bottom of the loch.

This looks like sooo much fun! I may be weird, but I really like something about wet and cold places, e.g. I had a ton of fun in Iceland (not on the bike though). I'd love to visit Scotland some day.

Visit Scotland whenever you want. Flight tickets are cheap and taking with you your sports equipment does not cost much..only 30 pounds. But you will need to stay there minimum of one month to see some of the most beautiful trails in Scotland. I definitely recommend it Smile .

Well even till 3 am it's ok, what I'm mainly looking for is the atmosphere you can find in British pubs. ;-)

Awesome! Looks like so much fun. I've done plenty of kayaking in Scotland myself, and although the weather is a bitch I've grown to love that beautiful country.

Can anybody tell me the name of the second song? "I've got a trillion million things to do before I can come home to you ..."

Dan, I can appreciate when you last mentioned that people's attention span after 5 minute plummets, but I think these Trail Ninja series vids need to be much longer, show more riding/trail information etc.etc.etc. These 5 minute edits don't really do it justice.
  • 1 0
Ahh.. . I wish the powers that be would allow me to be so self indulgent! Even the 5 mins are scorned upon. Yep I'd love to do longer edits and show more of what goes on, but there you go. Apparently people dont like to watch more than that now, especially if its me and my ugly mug blabbing on to the camera..... Anyway, most of these episodes are filmed while I am shooting stills for magazine stories (yes I learnt to multi task).. so you can catch the real lowdown of what went on during these trips in those mags.. usually these stories appear in MBUK, Bike Germany, SoloBici.. and others... but thanks for asking for more!

Does the hiking motto "leave no trace" apply to this adventure? I hope so cuz bigfoots been doing it for years.

whats the name of the second song?

Get a packraft for even bigger adventures.

Packraft was on my radar.. looked at using one of those for the recent Argentina railroad adventure, as the original idea was that we might need one to cross the rivers if the old railway bridges were too derelict! Watch that episode here:
