Video: Remy Metailler Follows Kirk McDowall Down Cop Killer in Pemberton

Sep 20, 2019
by Rémy Métailler

This is the best Mountain Bike trail I have ridden in Pemberton so far! So much fun riding down that fast trail yesterday as you can tell!

To lead me down Upper Cop Killer, a part of McKenzie Cruise and Lower Cop Killer, Kirk McDowall, a very talented World Cup Racer. He has been two times national Champion of Downhill in Canada, got 15th at World Championship this year and also scored a couple of podiums at Crankworx. Not bad!

Follow him Kirk on Instagram: @kirkmcdowall.

Trail Preview on my Youtube.

Find out more about the trails in this video:

Cop Killer - Upper
McKenzie Cruise - Upper
Cop Killer - Lower

If you enjoyed this trail and want to ride it, I advise you to join the Pemberton Off Road Cycling Association: https://porcabikes.com, this way you will be able to support trails like this one!

Thanks a lot to the trail builders for the work!

What trail should I ride next?

Thanks for watching, see you on the trails or Youtube

Rumor has it that Cop Killer received its name after a constable was taken out to ride this expert trail and almost didn’t make it down in one piece"- BikePirate.com

As a grown up adult, I can use my judgement that the trail builders of Pemberton are not suggesting I go and kill cops.

@jjhobbs: Bro, no donut punchers were harmed, only donut eaters

@PCbroModerator: and you are?!? The doughnut maker...

I first rode this trail back in 98 with V-brakes. I ate shi*# in the chute that Remy points out. Had too much speed at the bottom, no banked corner back then and went flying into the boulder field. The chute has been built up recently and so it is much more fun to ride. No i'm not the cop and the local police have rode it and don't care about the name. Its a bike trail so get over it. This trail was around well before 98 when i first rode it.

@vr6gti I have ridden that trail before and its butch...didnt know it was that old of a trail. Those builders were ahead of their time with bike from the 90's riding that stuff.

Pemberton rocks!

Also support www.pembertontrails.com PVTA as they perform most of the trail maintenance for the Pemberton trails.

The name sure seems like a great way to destroy any relationship between the RCMP and the mountain bike community. Just a matter of time before a news station runs a story on this and sends people into freak out mode.

@MOLDTRUTH: fun fact: Cop Killer was named for the local police officer who took a nasty spill on the trail. But don’t worry, he actually came out of it perfectly alive.

@PeterWojnar: Not really a fun fact...

@MOLDTRUTH: ..Or perhaps the people who named the trail are oldschool hip-hop fans of Ice-T who in the early 90's put out a song with the very same name so theyre paying homage? Naaahhhh that can't be it... gotta look outside of your bubble grandpa.

Typical fear mongering from MERICA. @MOLDTRUTH:

@NYShred: You couldn't keep up with me if you had tried...

@MOLDTRUTH: lol..he didn't even call you slow.. It is better to not reply and be thought of as an idiot, than to reply and have all doubts removed.

@MOLDTRUTH: settle down now, us canadians are fun loving people, our police know how to take a joke, especially when they're personally involved.
As for your "couldnt keep up to me if you ad tried" remark, lets us meet up in whistler and go for a few laps and we'll see what your impeccable speed looks like

So sick! Amazing riding, you two! Your excitement and joy for the trail are infectious. I spent a day in Pemby this past summer. Still working up to double-blacks in this area, so CK probably still above my level, but I loved Overnight Sensation and Cream Puff. Need to get back to ride more!

I think "so loose" is relative to what warp speed you're riding it at. This trail would be fine for me. It would take an hour, but I think it would be "solid". Also, I don't have much shame in walking.

Unrelated, @remymetallier and @yoannbarelli need to co-commentary a trail. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm down with enthusiastic French accents. That would be Level Morgan Freeman.

Kirk is awesome, one of the first times I've seen a sensible gap on a Remy POV. Plus rolling blind. Keep em coming Remy

Wow, great video, sick trail and excellent commentary whilst riding. It would be great to know some details of the bikes and set up from experts like these guys as this would help others to get a better feel for what set up to dial in for this kind of trail and conditions, e.g. tyres, tyres pressures etc. ????

Hey man, look up on my Youtube I have a few pro tip video where I talk about my set up. Don't hesitate if you have ideas as well.

Just another edit of dudes half my age riding half as long as I have that make me look like I need to take an Intro to MTB class at some clinic.

Remy... Please go on a roadtrip. The northwest, Burns Lake, Smithers, Terrace all have great riding. Some super steep stuff on copper mountain in Terrace.

Amazing footage. Nice to see you guys yesterday. HOW GOOD WAS THAT DIRT?!!
  • 1 0
That was immense. I was half expecting some NWA, but yeah Ice-T good recollection skills from NYShred. I can't see the old bill would catch the hump over the trails name either.
