Go Trail trippin’ with the GraVity Card in Europe

Apr 22, 2015
by rasoulution
The sun is rising once again from the wintry depths. From the first tracks in the still dampened dirt of early spring, until the days of the last barbecue in October – freeriders from near and far can enjoy trail trippin’ across Europe once again with the GraVity Card. This season, the GraVity Card welcomes the two new members, Jasná and Lenzerheide. Due to its current closing, the Bikepark Pohorje in Maribor for now will not be part of the GraVity Card family. With even more developments and fine tunings, the member bike parks have everything you need to enjoy a whole season full of shredding, including two UCI Mountain Bike World Cup tracks. Don’t be left out - make sure you get your GraVity Card in 2015!

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be a downhill star? Well, clip in at the top of bike park Winterberg (GER) and the 1000m iXS Downhill track, with steep shoots riddled with rocks and roots and it will quickly get your blood pumping. Conquer it and the feeling across the line won’t be far off. Stay in Germany, travel another 560 kilometres south-east and you will arrive at MTB ZONE Geisskopf – the home of Diddie Schneider´s, 'Flow Country Trail.' Any trail inspired from this legend is going to be a wicked rollercoaster of fun. Bike Park Spicak in the Czech Republic has once again prepared its legendary freeride tracks and added a whole new section. Their flow inspires newbies as well as pros. A challenge not only for racers is the European Cup track, 'Struggle.' Go on, give it a try! From there keep trippin’ over to Slovakia to Mountain Bike World, Jasná. Situated in the beautiful Slovakian Low Tatras National Park in the Karpaten range, the Gravity Card’s newest member has a lot of amazing tracks such as the 'Rocky Face.' The track has a 2 meter drop that will test even the bravest of riders.

The Austrian bike parks call it as it is! Their 'Sweet & Sexy' line at Bikepark Semmering is pure freeride bliss. Characterized with steep and technical elements, the track has put smiles on the faces of UCI World Cup downhillers; Matti Lehikoinen, Steve Smith and freerider, Thomas Vanderham. Their opinion: "Thumbs up - funny line!”. Another Austrian GraVity Card member, Bikepark Planai has weaved the longest downhill-trail in the country down its mountain face. The pro-track starts at 1.830 meters above sea level, it passes along the Speichersee through many natural surroundings to the middle station. Looking for something to send you up into the air? Then trip down to Bikepark Wagrain and have a ride along the famous Monster Wallride on the trail 'On Air.' The track also offers flowy tables as well as chicken lines for those who need a bit more practice.

In Bikepark Leogang bikers can awaken the competitor inside on the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup track, 'Speedster.' This fast and technical trail will take you 480 meters down the mountain, across root carpets, around tight turns and speed passages. Their web of trails in the 'Big-5-Challenge' in Leogang and Saalbach Hinterglemm is the perfect day out for recreational adventure seekers. Just a stone's throw away you can find the implied Bike-Circus, Saalbach Hinterglemm with its seemingly endless selection of freeride and single trails, such as the challenging X-Line powered by Conti, with a brand new timing system, or the legendary Hacklberg Trail, which is known throughout Austria as the epitome of a flowing and alpine trail.

'Red Devil' at Bike Park Tirol is a mood swing of emotions. Steep turns, step downs and north shore-elements create a lot of variation. Short of vertical and demanding, the Red Devil will put the fire in the eyes of experienced riders. If adrenaline is the name of the game, then bikers should also take a ride down the 'Strada del Sole' track at Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. Its large jumps provide a lot of airtime and is known as one of Europe’s most interesting tracks. Now, the wonders of Switzerland are also available for GraVity Card members. Lenzerheide Bikepark has a number of trails including the unique slopestyle course 'STYLEline' in the forest. Jumps, wallrides, boxes and other elements will certainly test the skills of keen freeriders. Those who want to shred like a world champion should head to the 'STRAIGHTline' and show their talent on technique and big jumps. In July, the pros will fight for victory here at the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup. The Bikepark Pohorje in Maribor for now will not be part of the GraVity Card family. The new gondola operator is about to test all facilities. The bike park operator, Iztok Kvas explains:

“All important steps are already initiated and we are doing our best to reopen the park as soon as possible.” Once the Bikepark Pohorje can put enough trails into operation, the GraVity Card will be valid again. All card holders will be informed as soon as there are any changes.

Apart from open access to all these tracks and trails – the GraVity Card bike parks host an endless amount of events and competitions. Make sure you check out their website so you don’t miss something epic! You can buy your GraVity Card on the internet or onsite at all participating parks. Adults pay, 396 Euro, youth, 315 Euro and children, 198 Euro.

Dude, 396 Euros, those prices have been going up since last time I checked... I mean, you do get bang for the buck, but, and anyone who doesn't make a living out of riding probably can relate, there's only so much riding you can squeeze in between your "other activities". It's kind of a two-edged sword here. On the one hand you got a ticket that's valid for one HUGE area and on the other there's just this nagging thought: How often are you going to take the trip to Spicak if you life in, say, Tirol. Also, I can't shake the feeling that the Gravity Card is following the footsteps of things like the Ski-Amade Ticket, which has seen some sharp price increases over the years... Anyone else feel the same? *can't

I'm from Graz, and since the bikepark in Maribor isn't listed (as of now) with the gravity card I'm really thinking about not buying it this year. Semmering is fun but kinda small compared to Maribor and Schladming is already a 2h30min drive away. The GC didn't even get cheaper, did it? They always said that it got more expensive as more bikeparks joined, so now it should get cheaper, right?! Wink Anyway, in my opinion you get the most out of the GC when you live in Salzburg/Tyrol/Bavaria/Switzerland.
Last year it was way cheaper for me to buy a GC than a day ticket each time I visited a bikepark. With maribor missing this is no longer the case.....

those prices are stupid now! I'm in Innsbruck and still struggle to justify spending 400 euro on a bike park card aswell as a winter season ski card.

if your riding a lot then its ok, but i got to balance life with riding which means if i go riding 20x in a season I'm lucky. Look at the opening dates too of some. Like end of June/July? thats 3 months on some!! Not at all well thought out!

If they gave 5 months then it would be ok but its not and its sucks Wink

Expensive, but for me still cheaper than buying a ticket every day.
If you're riding more than 15 days it counts.

I'll have about 30 days in the parks, so i will buy one again.

And from Linz, i've 1h30min to Schladming, 1h50min to Bischofsmais, Spicak and Wagrain, and 2h20min to Semmering, Leogand and Saalbach (but i think i will not go to Saalbach this year)
