PRESS RELEASE: Schwalbe Trans BC Presented by Yeti

EVENT UPDATE:

We know everyone is chomping to get back out on bikes, socializing, exploring and traveling and we are working our best to make it happen for you all. However all things are still on standby for this year's event - the following is what we are currently waiting on:

- Rec Sites and Trails BC (RSTBC) will not be issuing any approvals for events this summer unless PHO (Public Health Order) of non-essential travel lifts along with many other aspects

- We need the PHO to lift the non-essential travel policy before we can know if we can go ahead and have it go back to at least 50 person max gatherings

- If this does happen we are looking to run the event as 2 x 50 person groups with staggered wave starts each day with no social gatherings during the week where both groups mingle (keeping them separate all week)

- Crown Land Permits are also still on hold until we get more news on PHO's for the summer

NEXT STEPS:

Option 1: Get enough Canadians to sign up to be able to go ahead if the above pans out (this is in either the All Inclusive Package or Self Support)
So if you are keen to join the 2021 event, get your name on the list in the next week or 2 as that's when the big decisions are being made! You can do that by filling out this 1 min form HERE

Option 2: Convert the 6 day event to a 3 day Self Support event for Canadians Only
Again, fill out the interest form to get your vote and interest added to the list

Internationals: If either of the above happen then the event is a go, and at any given point the borders open up to those that have been vaccinated, then you can be added to the list at that point if you are currently on the registered list

FILL OUT THE INTEREST FORM FOR EITHER OPTION 1 OR 2 HERE
The more people we get showing interest the easier it is for us to try and move forward with a decision on this years event and what direction to take it if PHO's allow. We are hoping to have an answer in the next few weeks.

The 3 day would be a blast and leave enough time for travel to Nelson/Rossland. The TBD is a little late in the game for summer planning for most people. With all that said, not many other event/races to attend so if this works out it will be awesome!

So is the event only open to those who have been vaccinated? Or are you making an assumption that the border will only open to those with a "vaccination passport"? I'm confused by the statement on internationals.

Yep making an assumption. Very highly doubt it will open freely within the next few months to everyone. Not even sure if it will open to those vaccinated. So If the border happens to open up in time to allow Americans across quarantine free to those that have been vaccinated then I’ll be open to allowing those Americans to race if there are spots available and at this point would first be pulling from those already registered and paid that got moved from last years event to this year as there are many of them on the list. Even if the border opens up to everyone (again highly doubt it), then I’ll still only take Americans that have been vaccinated to keep the event as safe as possible. And sorry that should read USA riders not international riders as borders for sure won’t be open to rest of world!
