Source: Transition Bikes Transition Bikes is proud to announce a new consumer direct webstore for the United Kingdom. The store offers customers competitive prices, fast shipping and access to the full line of Transition frames, build kits and parts. All orders are shipped directly from Transition Bikes headquarters in Washington State, USA. This allows UK customers to buy the full inventory of products in all colors and sizes, shipped fast, directly to their door. With the new store, customers in the UK have access to all the great custom options offered by Transition Bikes. By sending products directly to your door, Transition gives riders the freedom to spec every detail of their bike without added delays.
To stay in touch with riders in the UK, Transition Bikes has hired an agent in the UK to represent the company at races, rides and events throughout the year. Look for Keith Jepson at an event near you; he will be hanging out with a fleet of demo bikes for riders to check out. "I have been riding and working in the UK Mountain Bike scene for a number of years. I am so excited to be working with Transition; a company with amazing products and a true brand identity! Keep an eye out in the press and say hi to me at events," said Keith.
If you place an order with the new store you can count on fast delivery and great pricing. All orders over $100 USD are shipped free of charge. Orders over $400 USD are shipped with UPS Expedited, still free of charge, and all import fees and taxes are paid at checkout. Nothing to pay the post office, and no hidden costs! At this time, Transition can only bill your card in US funds, but as volume increases all pricing will switch to British Pounds.
“We are excited to offer this service to our customers,” said Sam Burkhardt from Transition Bikes. “We offer so many options with our products; different colors, build kits, forks and even different rear shocks. By shipping orders directly we are able to give riders exactly what they want without any unnecessary delays.”
Transition Bikes has grown dramatically over the last several years, and now offers ten frame models, in addition to an ever growing line of aftermarket parts. Everything is designed in house, and ridden hard by the owners, employees as well as a selection of up and coming pro riders. When you buy a Transition product you can trust that it has been designed to be ridden hard day in and day out.
“The UK is one of our most popular markets and we wanted a way to provide our UK customers with our superb rider owned customer service and access to our full inventory, shipped directly to their door. Our products have been a huge hit with UK riders who appreciate clean simple designs for niche styles of riding,” said Kevin Menard co-owner of Transition Bikes. “We are looking forward to growing in the UK and getting involved in the local riding scene.”

however, going direct seems quite expensive when you consider according to the new Transition site, a Bottlerocket with DHX 5 shock is, including import duty and tax (and free shipping):
US$2,052.82 = GBP£1,410.48
its nearest competitor, the Wildcard is GBP£1100 in the UK with the same shock, and only GBP£15 courier shipping to any UK customer
what would happen if a UK customer had an issue with a Transition frame in the UK, having bought direct from the USA?
Who covers the costs of recovering the frame for warranty inspection?
Or do they just take the customer's word for it (of ask for a digital photograph of the problem), and ship a new frame without inspecting the faulty part?
Does the customer then have to pay a local bike shop to rebuild their bike with the new frame, at their own cost?
Direct selling from an off-shore supply is in theory a good idea, but has some problems that hopefully won't impact on either the customer or Transition bikes
Seems silly.
It would have been a good deal say... 12months ago (buying in USD that is), but now its just stupid tbh.
By the time the new dh frame becomes available, there has to be
one guys :-)
the Wildcard was actually selling for £899 last year, until the British currency devaluation increased the costs in buying the Mythics from Taiwan, and raised the selling price up to £1100 - it still comes in £300 cheaper than the Bottlerocket
the suggested retail price is £1550, but Freeborn do not sell it at that price as its sold direct to UK customers, rather than through a dealer network which would only add another layer of costs
this means customers get it cheaper at £1100 and have direct contact with the importer in the UK in case of warranty claims, tech support or just for information before purchase, and speak to people that know what they are talking about, rather than a bike shop that is probably more interested in trying to "box shift" a Cannondale or GT complete bike, than sell a specialist, boutique frame
