Transition Bikes loves their Contours

May 15, 2010
by Tyler Maine
Just checking out some recent videos from the crew at Transition bikes as they are really loving self filmed videos with their new Contour HD POV cameras. This first one is Lars ripping up the pump track from various angles and the second is Kevin mounting and ripping up the trails on a new 2011 Fox 36 Van RC2 180mm fork.

Videos inside,

2:27 he like bottomed it out

he bottomed it out multiple times in that vid. All forks bottom out. Even super monsters. If you look at the range of travel for the majority of the vid, it was pretty damn good if u ask me.

shouldn't a suspension preview video, show the suspension really working out?
Maybe he , on purpose pressed it all the way down with with his weight.
I'm sayin' that cause the trail is really smooth and shouldn't normally bottom out so easy. What if he was wearing the previous Vanilla R?

yea looks like the fork has really good small/mid range compression, stays high in the travel. I'd just add a little bit more ramp up, so it doesnt plow through the travel on drops, thats all.

they put it on a blinde side

 wow it looks so plushFrown

 where was this video filmed?

For a so-called "HD" camera those Contours have poor video quality, not to mention the lack of water proofing. Looks like more people falling victim to the "shit for free is better than paying for quality" syndrome...

Though I'm not a fan of increasing travel without increasing stanchion thickness, that Van seems like a VERY VERY nice fork.... now if they make a 40mm Float single crown fork. O__o
  • 1 1
thats your opion but i find 40mm way to stiff for single crow forks, feels like your plowing throug stuff instead of flowing over it, ya dig
  • 1 2
They already have the 36 and 40 platform, why not a 38? Makes sense to me 38 mil is good for a 7 inch fork. Deeds, if you set it up properly it feels great, my totem is incredible.

A 38mm fork wouldn't make much sense, in my opinion. Yes, it is a perfect combo of strength, stiffness, and weight, but it would require too much R&D for Fox to be able to sell it at a competitive price. If Fox were to make a 40mm SC fork, then they don't need to redesign the lowers, they can just take the 40's lowers, put new uppers on it, and design a new (bigger) air cartridge to take advantage of the extra space within a 40mm stanchion. As a bonus, they can re-release the Fox 40 DC fork with an air cartridge. I bet that would shave of a little bit of weight... at least enough to make it more competitive with the Boxxer for weight.

40mm to stiff? The stiffness allows for smoother travel due to less flex... No dig.

They definetely should of went with 38mm stancions regardless of the re-design involved. Even 40mm. 36mm is going to allow for to much front/back flex.

 if u want a 38mm buy a marzocchi 66...
  • 2 1
Id never buy a marzo over rockshox. So, no..
  • 1 0
ya same, but i also think that rockshox and fox are doing it right and dont need to do any changing

  • 1 0
oh...was that the new stuff on evo? i thought it was the unfinished, and unopened "unemployment line"
  • 1 0
 Yeah, ya big goof!
  • 1 0
nice that fox realized that a 180 mm fork is a good thing Smile wuld like to try one out...
  • 1 0
I thought that the new 36's came with Kashima coated stanchions? Those certainly don't look like Kashima stanchions...?!?!
  • 1 0
Exactly! I think he was wrong in saying it was the RC2 model (the RC2 Van is the only Van model that comes with the Kashima coating) and it was just the lower end open-bath version of the new 180mm Van fork.
  • 1 0
Also, the basic open-bath Van model doesn't have the hydraulic bottom-out resistance that the RC2 model has:

... which is probably why he came so close to (if not completely) bottoming out in the video.

  • 1 0
 wow Kevin can ride
  • 1 4
 nice one!

whasn't the beginning of the song identical to "ice ice baby" by vanilla ice?
  • 2 1
 yes it was
vanilla made a new song using sampling of the original "Pressure" by The Queen feat. David Bowie.
  • 2 3
i dont think he bottomed out cuz the sag meter never reached the crown....
  • 4 0
If you let the lowers reach the crown youre going to damage the fork. He bottomed.

ice ice baby by "VANILLA" ice, pretty clever!
  • 12 0
You guys must be somewhat retarded... Queen was around long before Vanilla Ice, and "Ice Ice Baby" is an absolute butchery of an amazing song. Every time it is played, a baby is stillborn somewhere on earth.

 Unlimited props for singletrackman.
